Helping players a thing of the past
Just say you’re new at the start. Most groups that didn’t lfg for experienced players don’t care, but people don’t like when someone new doesn’t say anything and makes the group wipe. And of course don’t join experienced runs.
There’s also the Dungeon Mentors thread and the sticky here for helping people with dungeons.

Join a group of 4 other newbies? rather than force vets to play with you
Just quick question (I had intended on doing this very social experiment a few months ago, but scrapped it when I didn’t want to level another character on my new account): did you tell these groups you were new? Did they know you didn’t know what to do (supposedly)? Were they EXP groups?
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
Unfortunately I don’t have any stories, when I pug players I’m nice as long as they are nice but I will kick if they are jerks or don’t help the team.
Sorry about how things turned out, but the dungeon community as a whole can’t and shouldn’t be held responsible because of bad experiences. The truth is that on the other side of that monitor is another human being, and it’s just people being people. It sucks I know, but it’s part of the real world unfortunately. By the sheer fact that some people whispered and apologized for said kicking should show that it’s just people, a lot of them are jerks but not all of them.
Aside from making sure you’re meeting their LFG requirements there’s not really anything you can do to prevent kicking, but you shouldn’t let it get you down either.

New players should just join guilds and get shown what to do instead of joining lfg posts that ask for people that know the run. Or they could also make their own LFG post saying they are new and it will eventually fill.
Furthermore these active threads are for new players and we have an FAQ that people have spent a lot of time on, so I disagree with the helping part.

There are a lot of players are willing to help including myself as long as the new player will speak up and say “i am new to this dungeon/path” there is nothing more annoying when you have 1 player running around doing random crap.

Same here, and not just if he/she will admit to be new. He/she will have to listen, because when I get in a team of newbies and I give them a strategy, and none of them give a kitten of what I say, causing team to fail 10000 times, (And happens too often sadly) I lose ANY POSSIBLE WILL to decide to join to lean a hand. True, many veteran players are just totally not interested in helping newbies, they kick and claim only experienced, but in same time, there are many new players to be blamed for their behaviours as well. If you are new and know nothing about something, you can’t claim that your own made-up-just-now-out-of-no-rational-thinking strategy could possibly be better than the strategy a veteran who played for almost 2 years, knowing dungeons by heart, gives to you.
In brief: true, many veterans can be “jerks” but in a way, they too have to be understood (sometimes), because most likely, when they were the newbies, they had no one teaching them, (not even as many Youtube videos that are now available) they teamed up with other newbies, had to suffer through dungeons paths taking hours and hours, knowing no strategy nor anything (as did I) and now, after mastering, they (we) have the right to have smooth, fast runs as well sometimes. Don’t you agree?
Don’t say “new players can’t run dungeons” because it’s false. There is not only one new player, there are thousands. If you advertise a team of newbies, many others will join, and fast. But if your claiming is to join those players who don’t want to help, for whatever reason, then you are in the wrong. If not for anything else, for the fact everyone must be allowed to play the way he/she wants. If wants a speedrun with no talking, explaining and wiping, he has all the right to ask for it.
And true, many new players are BETTER players than many veterans, and will listen to you when you explain and do everything as alright as if they were masters of that dungeon, but in same time there are some I wish no one will ever have to team up with in life.

As has been said, check/tell friends to check the dungeon mentors thread, very friendly and very detailed explanations of dungeons and fractals by very competent mentors. Also, as long as you/your friends avoid joining “exp only” parties, and say you’re new before going through the dungeon will usually find you a successful group.

I know the OP was just doing it as a social experiment, but to newbie dungeon/Fractal players: If you’re new, just speak up and say that you’re new. I’m always happy to take newbie players through a dungeon and teach them on what to do. I know all too well what a clusterluck things can become if you join a dungeon, say you’re new, but nobody tells you what to do and just runs ahead/skips without telling you what you’re supposed to do.
And of course, please do read the LFG description.
Don’t bring a guardian to a group that says “No Guards” or a ranger with long bow and bear to a group that says “No Bowbear”. Don’t join a group which requires “80. Exp Only” with your sub-80 lowbie and still new in the dungeons.
I found the most effective method is to put down your own LFG which states “First timer needs help with xxx” and you’ll find many angels come to you and offer their helping hands.
Be proactive in protecting yourself of grieving and put faith back into the community.

So now we can’t even lie to other players? I hate you elitists!
I used to advertise teaching runs for CM all the time. About half of the players were people wanting to help teach. Now when I want to teach newbies in CM is just put in pX ads because all you seem to get with that particular ad is sub 80 characters who don’t know how to use the reflect guns or fight sureshot (or do the skips or pulls). Its a trivial dungeon and I have no problems carrying lowbies/newbies through it. Maybe 1/10 will actually learn something, but I count that as a win in my book.
What was written in the LFG description?
And of course, please do read the LFG description.
Silly Iris, people don’t read in 2014. Anet nerfed reading back in 2013. Didn’t you see the patch notes?
The best advice I can give for any new player that wants to run dungeons is to find a guild of friendly people who are willing to explain fights.
ill tell you what, whisper me when im online and bring your friends and we can do some arah if you want just say ur the guy from the forums.

You are leaving out some details. Did you ever says “I’m new can you guide me”? Or did you just play like you had no idea? Did you join speed run/experienced only groups? Were you lv 80? Were you running as a bowbear, staff camping guard, 5 sig warrior?
I have no problem helping people through a dungeon, IF THEY USE THEIR WORDS. There is also some responsibility on the new player to do some research on said dungeon they are running. My faith in self motivation is flushed down the toilet daily when I see post after post of people asking for questions instead of searching for it themselves. Seriously, if they would have typed the same question into their favorite search engine/reddit they would find the answer, but instead they want everything typed out to them. Heck, I’m sure they would just want it dictated to them so they didn’t even have to read.

Few people if any, actualy care to look at the forum or even knows it exist. Not all of them are English either and might as well Wind up on the french forum (lots of poor player there) or other language forum. If I was to make a percentage of how many of the playerbase actualy check the forum I guess we would be good for at best 10% of the community. It took me 1 year to even bother taking a look at the game forum and ive always been fine prior to it.
Saying the forum have topic is not actualy an excuse… people want to play not to read. Education in game still is and remains the best method.

Im actualy a good player who never actualy cared to read forums for help or tip when everything was already doing quite well (doing high fractals got my dungeon master title and finished the game in prety much all angle not to mention i got a fairly good spvp ranking). Plus the fact I joined and played Prior to the creation of the meta builds prety much at the release and back then running 15 in defence on a war was still considered a virtue. I didnt hear about the ranger hate or the necro minion hate until i actualy bothered to check the forum and even if its over present here its prety much invisible in the game. I made most of my builds by myself… sometime unknowingly using the Meta itself.

So much modesty…
I don’t have an issue with new players, infact I prefer to help because I don’t want their experience to be bad but if they can’t take a moment to say ‘Hey, I’m new to this instance’ Then they deserve whatever comes their way imo because I’ll assume they are experienced.
I name all my dungeon parties things like ‘noobs <verb>ing <adverb>ly’, if somebody joins a group called ‘noobs failing consistently’ and expects expert results they are beyond help.
If you are a noob, start your own party, you probably don’t understand half the descriptors in non-noob parties.
how did you pull off pretending to be new to the game? next to our avatar is our achivement points …I bet u have a lot since u played since the beginning…like I do.
replace ‘noob’ with ‘sub-80’…

I’d take someone who is lvl 40 with 10k+ AP over a lvl 80 with 400 AP in AC.
