Honor of the Waves exp needs to be fixed
But first make these paths worth their while.
Nerfing the HP of all bosses by 50% is a good start.
Beside the irrelevant assumptions you make about my motive and age, you think it’s OK not to point out these exploits? What exactly did you contribute with your rant?

We’ve actually been aware of this issue previously, but thank you very much for posting it. If you would rather not deal with trolls blasting you in the future for helping devs, please feel free to PM me these things and I will look into them.
Perfection, your post is neither helpful nor constructive. We’re aware of bugs and issues in the game, and we’re fixing them as fast as we can. Just because there’s a forum post about something doesn’t mean we drop everything to fix it. Every bug is given a priority, and it gets put in line with all the other bugs of that priority.

Why don’t I make some assumptions of my own. You exploit much? U MAD YOUR FAVORITE EXPLOIT GUNNA GET TAKEN AWAY?
The fact that you even replied shows your immaturity. The fact of the matter is: nobody likes snitches. Snitching in the game will become a sort of social death for the person in question in most cases.
Yes, I admit I was ticked off.
Yes, no one likes snitches but I guess that’s why they have whistleblower laws to protect snitches who do the right thing.
If you ever run across me in a pug, feel free to let me know why you don’t want to party with me before booting me.
There is a lot more things that needs to be fixed about HotW.
For example the mobs right after Fimbul on path 3: sometimes they will NEVER stop chasing you. Even if you all die and respawn they will teleport to the entrance!
Do you even lift, bro?

On the other hand, calling your players trolls, even if they do behave in such unconstructive manner, may be seen as not only unprofessional but also rude.
I realise that you’re not calling anyone in particular a ‘troll’, but saying what you did, you acknowledge the reader that you disrespect some of those posters.
Sometimes it’s just better to back off saying nothing than engage in a discussion.

Are you aware that with a mesmer(blink +portal), you can do the last boss from path 1 in path 3(maybe even in 2, but I’ve never done 2 because of exploits :/)?

yes. The issue at hand is that players can exploit the map to get to each end boss without having to select a specific chain. Naturally we need to patch up the map exploits that allow players to do that, but also we need to make the bosses in each final encounter not capable of being fought unless certain conditions are met.

I noticed that it’s not just Robert that speaks in such a manner. From the way certain… other ArenaNet developers type, you could certainly view their post as also being condescending, if not overly judgmental. It all depends on the subject at hand, of course. There’s a very thin line between what can and can’t be said, as a developer.
Troll and Noob are terms gamers use, and they are to describe a % of a population in certain aspects when they meet certain criteria. Its true that in the past they might be consider bad terms but please we are in 2012, expand your mind terms that were once bad are now consider usual language spoken by everyone.
with how alot of the players post and talk to Anet. the fact that all they do is occasionally sound condescending or mention “troll” is amazing. i dont know how they stop themself from telling people off completely when people make completely idiotic posts that deserve much more than that

So, then, why is it that some words get filtered to “kitten” on the forums?
From every forum topic I’ve ever read, the word “kitten” seems to pop up everywhere…
So while those words may be “consider[ed] usual language spoken by everyone”, ArenaNet still feels a need to censor them because they’re offensive.
Edit: For that matter, I think “nerd” is an even better example. It’s a word that can be used explicitly in a derogatory manner. It may not be offensive if your friends use it, but imagine how you’d feel if a jock called you a nerd. It’d still have a certain sting to it, even though it’s “usual language.”

True, but developers posting as developers will always be held to a higher standard. As it is, Robert here came kinda close to passing over the line.
On the other hand, I’d rather have the devs edge the line than not talk to us. One of the reason why I miss city of heroes – the team there had a nice vocal contingent – and they were loved for what they shared.
And as far as reporting exploits go – if Anet ever gets a system in for dungeon rewards that lets them adjust each path’s rewards, I’ll be happy to have exploits reported. Because once they get that, they can adjust the rewards for difficulty and /time/.

Yes.
You can do every boss from path 2 I believe it is, in succession, without taking damage from any of them.

Kitten is a filter for terms that are tagged as inflammatory or bad among all languages, Noob and Troll are not bad terms just terms used by people, if they are seen as bad that’s a personal opinion.
Noob is the same as lets say a beginner
Troll is lets say the same as someone who likes to bother/flame with no real purpose or with hidden intentions.
Both Troll/ Noob actually do not mean bad words so no reason to tell the devs they are talking badly, is just gamers talking as gamers.
We often see harassment towards players who report abuses and exploits here on the forums. For the most part I would rather people PM me about things so that they are protected from the trolls and exploiters who are upset, and they still do what they feel is right by reporting the issue.

Words only have meaning if people assign them one… Thus “kitten” words are those which have generally been assigned a negative connotation (and are, thus, offensive).
Calling someone a “n00b” is usually an elitist term. (I tend to see people use “newb” or “newbie” if they’re trying to be affectionate with the term.)
It’s very much the same as using the term “nerd.” Yeah, it can be used in an affectionate manner… but it also has negative connotations.
Google’s definition of nerd:
Noun
- A foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious: “one of those nerds who never asked a girl to dance”.
- An intelligent, single-minded expert in a particular technical discipline or profession.
If someone called you a nerd (implying the first definition) then I would assume you’d be offended.
The same as calling someone a n00b or troll. It’s all about perspective. You can sit back and say that it’s not offensive as long as no one is saying it about you.
I agree that people shouldn’t attack someone for reporting a bug, but it’s probably in poor taste for a developer to call people that bought his game “trolls” as they’re also paying his salary (if they’re buying gems).
If negative behavior isn’t shunned, then what? Promote it?
I for one like that they don’t put the extra silken gloves when making statements.
you guys know that someone got in-game spam whispers and mails – hatred messages – after the arah nerf cause he simply made atopic about it on forums.
I believe when the word troll is used.. it really means that. Nothing to be offended about. My friends call me a troll due to the …well trolling i make with friends and friends of friends (trolling against randoms is bad.) So why would anyone be offended by it? it is..a personality type nothing more. Immature one if you dont know where the fun ends.
If I run a dungeon with a group and they want to exploit these bugs, do I risk being banned if I follow them? Should I just exit right away?
Yea, I’m not sure what happened to HoTW since the last time I ran PATH 1 with Aldus Stormbringer but seriously? The Ads just won’t stop spawning. And you can’t get in enough time to attack the boss. Even standing up top Aldus will 2 shot you with his Ice Barrage he throws in Multiple Directions so that it hits everyone. On top of that you have to deal with the Ads coming up top and you can’t kill them. Even with a good solid party like we had it was just way too much. We spent almost an hour trying to figure out a method to killing this guy and continuing on but we finally gave up because of the ads after an hour of beating our heads against the ice.
This boss never used to be like that. It was a pretty straight forward fight. And it wasn’t easy before. But now…Pffft…it’s like no boss fight I have ever come across in the entire game. Running around from the ads is fine. There isn’t a problem with that. But you can’t run around, watch the boss, deal with the ads, jump down and hope you don’t get hit with his ice barrage after taking fall dam and then run back up top avoiding ice traps and minions from the ads summoning, and I could on & on. But I think you get my point. This needs to be addressed. This path is by far not like it used to be. And people will avoid it like a plague if it doesn’t get resolved in some fashion. I know I won’t go back to it till it gets fixed or changed in a way so that it’s at least feasible to complete.
The real reason is that many (not all) people exploit for the simple reason that this dungeon is long, and not worth the reward. The Hp’s of the bosses make the fights long and boring, with not much thought processing required. Remove the exploits by all means, but in the same stroke, reduce the HP’s of the bosses and trash and add more interesting/harder fight mechanics.
Every time you fix an exploit, people will go out of their way to find another, and many of them are motivated simply because they feel they are not rewarded enough for the time they put in.

Yes… the dungeon is not worth the time. HP on bosses are absurd not to mention there are multiple legendary bosses in path 3 and path 2 it takes forever and unbelievable boring whacking the same mob for 15 minutes straight.

So he should lie and tell us that we all great people as we kitten and murder babies, (just a example but the princpal the same). The defention of a troll is someone who is offensive to other players so you expect someone who offends people for fun for the developer to be repesctful and polite to these people. I think you expect the developers to be complete robots. I would prefer a company to be honest and realistic then for them to be complete robots and suck ups.
Consider the following: If people go to such extreme lengths to skip entire portions of the dungeon, maybe the problem is with the dungeon?
I have made this dungeon a lot to get my dungeon gear, and i like it very much, but imo the strongest problem is by far NOT the exploit. In fact i really haven’t see a lot of Pug exploit it, nothing compared to fotm for ex. But imo as some other pointed, all boss have too much hp, cut it to 2/3 or 3/4. The water parts probably need some tweak to make it more “fun”, i don’t know put more mobs and mobs group, but seriously reduce their hp, water combat isn’t really that fun, especially against bags of hp. The dungeon is overall very good, but the paths are a bit too long, especially if you have a “bad” group.

Offtopic: If you’re talking about the boss on the steps with all the adds mobs in front of him that he gives a speech to then I know what you did to cause the endless stream of mobs, you let him finish his speech. I encountered this AGES ago where a party member had to afk really quick and we decided to wait after triggering that role play section rather then start the fight. Since that was the first and only time it has ever happened to me, and I run that path every day (use to run it more then once a day with alts before anet nerfed the bonus tokens due to fractal ring daily[yes… we noticed it and we know why you did it….It’s lame, change it back]) I’m thinking its working as intended, after all its a “motivation” speech, if you’ve ever actually listened to it.
On Topic:
Why would people use this? The answer is simple really, underwater combat is beyond kitten (personally I get vertigo if I spend too much time fighting underwater, the abyss in aion was the same way for me). Add in the “trash” being more of a pain then the bosses (looking at you pack of party wiping turtling mobs in path 3!) AND the fact that the bosses have HP pools that are WAY too high… Well.. It’s not “rocket surgery” even a monkey could figure it out.

I prefer dev’s speaking their mind in this manner. Robert is one of the few dev’s who come across on the forums as genuine people with integrity and passion for the game. (+ a good sense of humour, We still refer to you as flailing arm dev btw). I like seeing devs care about their players who try to do a good thing for the game and not let the exploiters ruin the experience for people.
Anyway, I’ve reported bugs with HotW and other dungeons before and luckily haven’t been yelled at… too badly. I can definitely see how people are put off from doing so but I think it’s important that people do. HotW has many issues at the moment it’s why I’ve not step foot in there for probably a month now :P but I don’t hate the dungeon either I like the setting and some of the ideas for bosses but… those health points makes the dungeon so dull, also lack of mechanics for the bosses in places though that might just feel that way because of the lengthy fights.
