How do I do the CoF solo-parts?
As a necro I’ve done the gate controller for p1 a few times. How I’ve done it is by having a power/Death Shroud build. Have dagger in mainhand. Use Blood is Power, Signet of Spite, Well of Suffering, and Flesh Golem. Spawn flesh golem before the gate re-opens, pop BiP as it opens, and have your flesh golem charge the mob once the gate is open. Go into deathshroud and hit the controller with DS 1 as you run in, drop your well, and then switch to dagger to finish. I’ve also tried with using Ghastly Claws (axe 2) as I run in, and then switching to dagger. Both have worked fine for me.
As for the lava run in p2, I’ve never done it on an ele, so I couldn’t say how to really do it. Any character I’ve done it on (necro, warrior, ranger, and guard) just used swiftness and dodging (and condi removal, if needed).

The main point of running it solo is to be over when Maggs is done with inspecting the stone for a instaport to your location so definitely no cleanser.
How do all classes cross the Magmacite field solo?
Swiftness.

You’ve ever tried explaining that to a pug who just all port back and expect someone to solo it, because they’ve seen others do it? On ele I tend to run out of Endurance before I’m fully across. It almost makes me reluctant taking my Elementalist in PuGs.
This isn’t me, but a friend I used to run CoF with all the time. If you have questions feel free to ask.

Won’t RtL, Lightning Flash and Mist Form get you 2/3 of the way across?

And you can always drop an FGS and whirl your way to victory
CoF p1 the gate and CoF p2 the way to the Magmacite. Some classes I find these things very easy to do but with some other classes I struggle.
How do classes do the gate on p1 most efficiently?
Assuming Meta-builds, which weapons/utilities would be best per class. Gate never really poses an issue, but I feel slow on anything that isn’t Warrior/Thief/Mesmer (considering you miss 1 utility on Portal, still slower than Warrior/Thief.)
Don’t have a Mesmer gate =/
But if you must, perhaps iWarden, iSwordsman, Sword #2, TW, etc. What a waste of TW though.

If you are always the one running how did everyone port back to start?
You can’t force people to be “better” but you get the option to carry them if you want.
edit: like ephme said. FGS works. pop a lh an leap your way in the start. do a skip and a jump and throw up a swirling winds. obsidian flesh. ether renewal. Ele’s got TONS of stuff. no need for dodging.
I play fire glyp staff 30/30/0/0/10.
After Magg is done talking about the Oracyte and says “we need to find some Magmacyte…” He will instantly warp to the nearest play to him. This means you gotta have crossed the lava and be behind the Magmacyte/on the rock; being too slow means Magg will warp in the closer to the middle and grab aggro of some elite ensuing a waste of time.
Now me I just slot mist form. Lightning flash can help but I don’t need it so can keep that utility slot rdy for the next area.
(I assume you know the path to run across without touching the fire fields and lava without the need of the extinguisher)
Before the lava area, I go air 4 and glyph heal for swiftness, then switch to earth.
As you start running in, you will notice the 2 nearest immobilize spitting elementals on the left and right, those will be the first to aggro on you and put you into combat speed.
But by time their spit reach you you should have reached the left of the first fire aoe.
This is the time where you hit Earth 3 for the reflect bubble which puts you in combat speed as you throw back the spit.
From that point on focus on your path, you will feel 2 seconds of respite as you reach that tick middle where you pop mist form and dash through without care of touching fire fields.
As mist form ends I make another step as I pan the camera 180 while switching to fire 4 burning retreat dodge towards the magmacyte.
In the event you take an immobilizing hit after earth3 bubble, hit mist form to endure its duration but you will then have to use Lightning flash in to cut the time loss, and beware of the small ground denivellation before the last fire field as it will mess up your Lightning Flash teleport, so jump up that crack and then warp.

I would like to encourage you not to use thieves guild for the gate controller, and instead saving it for the last boss.

Average PuG situation: We all do Magg’s bomb-collection part, then I assume we all run accross but people start porting back until you’re the only one left and then expected you to solo it. About 25% of the time it’s this, other 75% people ask if some-one can solo, luckily. In organized groups we let the Thief or Warrior do it, on which I’ve never found it difficult either and let’s face it, there’s more comminication if no-one would be able to solo.
I’ll give the suggestions a go though. I haven’t kept my Focus off-hand on my attempts yet due to it being slow as a snail neither have I tried FGS, saving it for fights, FGS will allow me to do it similar and better than my Warrior. Kajin’s explaination is very helpful aswell and I’ll give it a go.
Xallever solved the mystery of the Elementalist being way faster than me, I usually go the normal D/F rotation, Lightning Flash on Fire #3 and saving my elite, your way sounds a lot better though. Thief is how I currently do it, but without the Elite, you might have noticed I prefer saving my Elites for the boss-fight. Mesmer I go Mantra of Pain activations, iPistol, Sword #3 iSwordsman, Sword #2 and Shatter when it would finish it off, it ain’t perfect, but with Blink/Portal in your utilities already it isn’t too horrible.

Because I’ve never gated as a Mesmer, I’ve nvr actually tried. However, one thing I’m wondering is the fact that it’s an object so between iWarden and iDuelist I think iWarden has more DPS because iDuelist’s DPS usually needs to consider bleed.
The difference between thieves guild and FGS is that after you’re done with it, you can immediately FGS all the way to the boss and not waste the FGS. Plus when Arcane Lightning is off CD, you can fiery the boss too. I usually have LH/Ice Bow as the other utility so you can still do decent DPS after your FGS is run out.
Anyway, I think it’s a good call to save the Thieves’ Guild for the final boss.
Mesmer is super-duper slow, but groups have forced me to do it in the past. I did warden-swordsman-signet of ether-sworsdman-blurred frenzy. Not sure if the third phant is necessary, but it wasn’t the slowest I’ve ever seen someone do it.

Mesmer definitly won’t be the fastest around, especially since you have 1 or 2 utilities less (portal slot for sure and Blink if the group is quick) but I usually don’t find it too bad on par with most other classes. It’s not an Elementalist/Thief/Warrior though. Just snooping for things I haven’t tried, like using FGS, choice between slower gate or less might-stacking at the beginning of the boss unless someone else provides a firefield. It’s the magmacite field I struggle with and it’s a huge annoyance if the team ports back without any communication and then slowing the run down even more by failing to get across, and only 1 of those 2 things can be changed
The gate is just pure DPS. Just do the most damage you can possibly do with your class. For Elementalist 1 fiery rush + lightning flash will kill it instantly. Mesmers being one of the lowest DPS classes in the game should NOT be doing the gate. Any other class will do it faster. Also: Bring a stability skill if you’re having trouble with the flame legion guy guarding it. And just run around the gate in circles to avoid his flamethrowing attack. Dodging through him works too. It’s better to be a bit slower, than to be dead.
For the running part on all classes:
All you need is condition removal. As long as you don’t get perma-immobilized, you’ll be fine.
Blocks and stuff help too. For elementalist that’s Arcane Shield and Mist Form. Cleansing Fire for condition removal. Or Ether Renewal as a heal (removes a lot of conditions).
You don’t need all these skills, but with them all on your bar I fail to see how you can fail the run.
Use a focus, swap to earth, press 5 to win.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
I main ranger and with meta build it’s the 3rd fastest class to do the gate now that FGS + blink has been fixed. I average 4 seconds to 6 seconds. The way you do it is run to the gate pop frost spirit + jungle panther F2, switch to jaguar use warhorn 5 for the 6 might stacks and 7% damage boost. Fast target the thing you need to destroy, use warhorn 4 then proceed spam sword 1 under quickening zephir and sic’em. Done, once you get the hang of if i’m faster than my warrior. Thief and ele can still do it faster though.
if you use frost spirit at gate doesn’t it mean that it won’t be up for the endboss?
nope the trick is to swap it with another utility when you used it, you still get the bonus for 10 -15 sec i can’t remember exactly cause even dead it still procs it’s effect (got to love bugs) and therefore it is back up for the boss
