How do/will we find raiding guilds?
Back when I played WoW before playing GW2, raiding was my favorite thing to do. I was in a hardcore raiding guild that pushed for at least 20 hours a week (30 when new content was released) with 25-man, and further for 10-man if needed. I really enjoyed the experience and the closest I’ve come to that in GW2 is structured WvW fight-nights.
Now that raiding is coming to GW2, I’m really interested in finding a strong raiding guild. However, this seems like it’s going to be particularly difficult, especially compared to finding a strong WvW guild.
With the megaservers, I feel that I’ll never be able to find a strong raiding guild, as most guilds I’ve found via the megaservers are casual guilds with big ambition and little action. Does anyone have tips for finding raiding guilds? Are there any tools for connecting guilds with players?
Just a note, I did take a look at the “Looking for” forum. It looks like a mess. :/
Dang, and I was going to suggest the Looking for… forums
Great question, though. I don’t think there are any tools out there for that (not that I’m aware of, anyway). Making a post in Looking For or in here will probably get you a couple of leads. Once raids are out, there’s always good ol’ mapchat spam near the entrance….
It’d be a cool idea to have a raid-guild finder. A thread on this forum where recruiting guilds can list themselves would work, but it’d get full of outdated ads fairly quickly.
Maybe we’ll see a site feature pop up from Weth or one of the other GW2 HTML Heros where guilds/players can advertise for this? If the adverts had maybe a week’s expiration time (to prevent clutter) and could be grouped by casual-ness, needed classes, etc that’d be neat.
Honestly I don’t foresee finding a raiding guild to be that difficult. You can scan the “Looking For” forum for the keyword “raid”, “dungeon”, or “fractal” and read their posts from there. Additionally, I know that literally every single speed clear guild will be pursuing raids as well because new content is best content. That all if you’re just looking to win, anyway. In addition to those guilds, there are countless more casual guilds who will be working together to win and will likely eventually get there, just not as quickly as the speed clear guilds. Those more casual guilds are more about having fun while learning to raid as opposed to just crushing it into submission and grinding the rewards. Both kinds are very valid and awesome in their own way, you just have to decide on what you’re looking for!
I’d also suggest reading this thread. A number of guilds are represented here which might satisfy what you’re looking for!
It would be so cool to have an ingame tool for guild advertising, an LFG-like tool but less dynamic. Somewhere you could put/read announcement of guilds with filters. There was a tool like this in Wow back in the days I was playing and we actually recruited some people like this, very useful tool.
From the LFG tool basis I’m sure it could be done, especially now that HoT will have a bigger focus on guilds.
Any type of current instanced (dungeon/fractal) focused guild will be pursuing raids, whether they’re hardcore or not. I assume we’ll even see team posts that are lf a few more, guild related or not.
I mean, it’s not really that hard, and you’re claiming that you don’t like the guilds you’ve found because they have little action. Yet you’re not willing to step into the LF forums because they look crazy? It’s just advertisement posts. Write up a post about yourself, explain what you’re looking for, plenty of ambitious guild leaders for large, medium, and small guilds will reply and give you their pitch. Then you can go into a VOIP room and ask them the questions you’re worried about, even try them out for a few nights. If you’re looking for a solid raiding guild, it’s not just going to fall into your lap, you’re going to need to do some leg work.
Any LFGuild system will look just like the LF system now, because there is no competitive guild listing, especially not for raids considering they don’t exist yet. You’re going to need to read some post, and god forbid, post yourself, in the LF forum. Anyone can write a guild recruitment website or tool but it’s going to be flooded just like the LF forums are now, and to be honest, those forums are pretty well maintained, just have a large number of posts.
Once raids come out and people are posting about their kills it will be easier to find a raid guild, for now you’re going to need to ask the right questions and play with some people.
