How do you melee Old Tom in the Harpy Fractal
well if you have an ele in your party, youn can stand behind the earth elemental
Q: How do you melee Old Tom in the Harpy Fractal?
A: Carefully!
“How do you melee Old Tom? By the way don’t give me any actual effective melee tactics”
There’s a spot inside the boss where projectiles never pass through, but you can take quite a bit of damage if you don’t find it quickly. You can also sit behind an Earth Elemental or gasp a ranger’s bear and burn it down with little fanfare.
Asura defensive golem works too.
Pretty sure theres a section that doesnt have as many projectiles flyig i could be wrong though. Been a while since ive done fractals
Stand behind the Ele’s Earth Elemental, Necro’s Flesh Golem, or the Ranger’s Bear/Drake pet.
Or just be the battery/fan camper and range it like it do. XD
Use melee weapons

“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
Stand in the dead center of his red circle and you won’t take damage from anything other than his weird purple laser attack (if he’s targeting you). If you aren’t in the exact spot, you will die.
If earth elemental or bear isn’t handy, watch the direction he’s facing just before the spin and get behind him. There tends to be less projectiles behind his initial direction, though it’s by no means completely safe.
stand behind an anchor, ezpz

This!
A little risky, but so worth it.

This
Or just get a Guardian to use this Tome of Courage and stand behind him.
And yes, I’d like to know how to do without using Untraited Wardens.
Why so much hate?

That’s the only reason why I want a circle for my character too: finding the exact spot in some fights, like this one.
Lie dead on the floor.

This is what we typically do. If no ele, if you have an asuran you can use the racial elite to summon the d-series defensive golem.
You can stand inside him and his only attack that will hit you is his single-shot projectile that he does from time to time. I’m surprised it’s been like two years and people still haven’t figured this out, I found that spot after like two days and have been abusing it since.

May I inquire what is wrong with using untraited wardens?
Other than you need a mesmer for that and your group might not have one that is.
you may keep them to rear new and interesting variants in your basement.

His projectiles that he shoots when he doesn’t spin are reflectable. Finding that center spot can be a pain though, as messing up can send your face straight to the ground if you’re unlucky.
Also: engi turrets can body block too. Engis do EVERYTHING.

Almost everything. They lack a portal like skill. But given it would be an engineers portal, it would most likely be “slightly unreliable”. (Group member: “Why am I in the middle of a magma field right now?” Engineer: “Just a mild callibration problem.”).

Everyone has a portal if they’re willing to fork over the cash to make one.

Yeah… I don’t think anyone’s too keen on ever using those anymore with today’s prices.
They don’t, however, have a blink skill. Most exploits that used those have been patched up though AFAIK.

In case it gets patched in 2016 I guess.
Be a Mesmer #wardensOP

don’t even joke about that
crazy as it sounds, I swap out to clerics / zealots gear for this fight. I know, stick with me..
get on a guardian, use greatsword, and stand in your symbol. take as many hits as possible. you can fully heal yourself 3 times with the right skills and timing. the retaliation will shave off most of his health faster than you can hit him yourself.
closest I’ve felt to a pure blood necro from GW1 since playing this game.
