How does the aggro (tanking) work for raids?
Well he must have some trait wich raises toghness or skill, just like the mesmer does with the mantras. I foud myself getting aggro from tank while channeling mantras and then i realized that while channeling them my toghness raises up by 600
I have already done that
he also turn when he put down blue (teleport) circles, so you might not be looseing agro, just that he turn to put them down.
I talk about loosing aggro, not just doing a turn
Toughness is a major factor in aggro but not the ONLY factor. But in your build its the only thing you have.
Get you power at or above 2000 and your crit to at least 40-60% – so you’re also delivering some threat…

And u saw that where exactly? Because from what i know only toghness counts for aggro
Its been known since launch that toughness is not the only factor…
And here we are, looking at the proof, again…
The reason other tanks don’t have this problem enough to notice it is almost nobody is actually trying to run a sPvP bunker build for a tank – but that’s what we’re seeing here: massive toughness and nothing else.
All the other tank builds try to have ‘just enough toughness’ to pull ahead on threat – and as such are still doing decent damage.
So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that it doesn’t work.

Thx for sharing this. It is nice to know more but sadly we don’t have any informativo about how the specific aggro table for vale Guardian works. It may be aggroed mainly by the level of toghness, as it may also involves DPS or even armor or citality…who knows. But the most tanks seem to be able to tank him just having more toghness and dpsing him. But now i know that this may not work as expected for some cases, in which the players will probably have to figure out a way to hold aggro by changing stuff like gear and tactics
That reaper probably had death magic. Aggro has been consistent whenever we have made sure the “tank” has the the highest toughness.
Heck i successfully tanked and held aggro on Gorseval with just a +4 toughness infusion.
If you are just testing on the smaller guardians you wont get accurate results. They dont follow the strict aggro rules like the main bosses do.
to tank just guardians in the raid
do you mean the green/red/blue guardians? those do not aggro based on toughness (though they’re a cakewalk so aggro doesn’t really matter)
As me and some groups have tested, Vale guardian aggros to the person with the most toughness 90% of the time. The only time we’ve noticed it consistantly switching is to target a flesh golem (for whatever reason), it turning to place the teleporting AoE’s, and if a person is about 100 toughness off it can get confused.
I’m not 100% sure if gorseval aggros the same way, but tbh you don’t even really need a tank for that fight
Thanks for the answers. I know that there is damage to be done. And mostly the tanks are kind of hybrid between power and thoughness.
Why I tested with a mesmer: because it can be interesting to see how the tanking can be affected by a mix between thoughness and damages on a “light” class.
It would be nice to see a dev explain a little bit about the effect of the amount of damage you do VS the amount of thoughness you have. (formula)
The test I did show clearly that you need a good amount of damage to keep the aggro even if you have a very good amount of thoughness. So thoughness is not “that” important.

Never saw the ValeGuardian boss lose aggro on the highest raid toughness (even with full nomads, even without atacking ever)(i killed it more than 15 times already (i like the fight)), the blue/red/green guys aggro is based to the [nearest target/first to hit].
