Hi everybody! I notice a lot of folks seem to have issues with something they might not even realize is a problem! When you post a youtube video link to this forum, the forum code automatically creates a space in your post for an embedded video. But since embedding is not enabled, there’s just a big ol’ gross block of white space with nothing there. This white space persists even when people quote your posts. I’m a big ol’ dummy, some browsers doesn’t show the embedded video! Like so:

Ugh! Just look at all that extra space! Gross!

But never fear, something CAN be done about it! Simply click the Share button under the Youtube video window, then copy and paste the shortened URL in the text box. Like so!

See? No messy, gross, disgusting, unneeded, cluttering, awful, terrible, horrible, pointless, unnecessary white space! I’ve attached a picture below to help you out if you have trouble finding it.

No comment on which style is better, but: the white space thing seems to be dependent on your setup. On some browsers where I don’t have any ad-ons to block stuff like that, I get embedded youtube videos. On my primary browser, I get a big white space. When rendered, some people may prefer the embedded – it gives a preview of one frame of the video, anyways. I happen to not prefer embedded, but my tastes aren’t the same as everyone else’s.

Also, last time I tried, not putting the link on its own line also caused it to not embed (can’t promise this is still the case)

Well considering what DelOnasi said it’s probably dependent on AdBlock or the like running. And everyone should be running AdBlock all the time, so deal with it! Hmph!

Edit: guildwars2.com doesn’t run banner ads or popups, try putting them on some unblocked list?

Using AdBlock. guildwars2.com is not exempt. Also using flashblock. Embedding works fine, made the post really confusing.

He probably has something in overkill mode blocking EVERYTHING.

I block the kitten out of everything, this is true. Oh well, I’m leaving this post up since the Share link is still objectively superior.

He doesn’t get the embeds but he gets the gap in the text. My little box was just a little trolling.
