After the patch, there has been tons of arguments regarding mostly AC. There are majority of the players who say AC has been ruined, made impossible, not fun, etc. On the other hand, players, most of who have played the game for a while, have been saying the update is great, made AC better and not as boring.

For new players, AC (which is the first dungeon you can do) may seem impossible. If i was a brand new player playing AC as my first explorable dungeon, i would NEVER play a dungeon again after that. The starter dungeon, in my opinion, SHOULD be easier than others. However, that is just my opinion.

With two very vast types of gamers (casual and hardcore) being present in the game, there is only one way i can think of to solve everyone’s problems. In guild wars 1, there was a Hard Mode for when you beat the entire game. Enemies scaled to level 28 and had better skills. This gave hardcore, experienced players the hard, challenging gameplay they were looking for. Why not have it here?

If you had a hardmode/easymode option, it would solve everyone’s issues. The hardmode can consist of harder enemies (obviously), more enemies, better skills on enemies, etc. While easymode would have your basic AC dungeon before the patch (In my opinion, AC was very easy before the patch). This way, hardcore players can have the challenge they’re looking for, while casual players getting the fun they want from the game.

To balance out the difficulties, the rewards should vary. Hardmode dungeons obviously getting better rewards than easymode ones. For example, finishing an easymode dungeon would yeild 20 tokens at the end as opposed to hardmode’s 60 tokens. Also the amount of money and exp would be different as well.

This could be implemented to every dungeon. I have reference AC in this thread but that’s just because everyone is talking about that after the patch.

Until something like this is implemented, there will ALWAYS be an argument from one side or the other. This is the only way that i can see to solve everyone’s problems.

I really like the ac changes, but it’s true, the dungeon has become much harder. while I don’t oppose the idea of a harder dungeon, we lost the following:

  • a dungeon for beginners to be introduced to harder pve content (compared to open world)
  • a dungeon where pugging was still successful
  • a dungeon where skill was more important than gear/traits (the change forced us to use stability a lot more, which is not always available to lvl 35’s). skill is still important, don’t get me wrong, but traits/gear have become a lot more important than before the patch
  • a place to easily get more or less useful exotic armor for 1h/day for about 1 week.
  • a place to level alts faster than the crawl in open world.

ac was the only way to quickly level alts without spending immense amounts of gold (what was it, 200 gold for lvl 80? sorry, I don’t HAVE 600 gold for the last three chars I want on 80). now we’re back to completing each zone again, with every char. and here I thought we were supposed to play the game the way we like.

I fully support hard modes in games.

However, I can see many players feeling entitled to besting hardmode and obtaining its rewards. If implemented, it would need to be made absolutely clear that the content is not meant to be accessible by the entire playerbase.

If you can’t beat Euro Extreme mode in the MGS games, you don’t write a letter to Hideo asking for the next game to be easier. Hell, Hideo would make the next game harder out of spite.

However, I can see many players feeling entitled to besting hardmode and obtaining its rewards. If implemented, it would need to be made absolutely clear that the content is not meant to be accessible by the entire playerbase.

If you can’t beat Euro Extreme mode in the MGS games, you don’t write a letter to Hideo asking for the next game to be easier. Hell, Hideo would make the next game harder out of spite.

i wish this would happen in gw2. and all the kids who are too lazy to think and learn from mistakes get a slap in their face.

You would think so. I have no desire to play a “hard mode” option, personally. The dungeons and raids are fun a few times, then they’re just dull. This is why I like WvWvW. I want to run the dungeon a few times, obtain some gear appropriate to the level of the dungeon without it being the almighty best PvE gear obtainable, gain a few levels, and then go back to WvWvW. Others want the the insanely difficult, takes hours to play and beat, and grants the almighty best gear PvE gear in the game experience. Why you wouldn’t set up a hard mode option is a total mystery. Hell, even SWTOR, the penultimate expression of MMO failure, got this right.

I’m actually very curious why they simply ‘replaced’ the content. They could have kept the old AC while adding new challenges to the bosses and such but it should be rather random. Sometimes you get the easier boss and other times the tougher one.

Not saying I want old AC back, but it was still fun in it’s own way too.

It is a very obvious, no-brainer solution, made even more practical by the many ways the game can scale content. That’s why I have to wonder what the motivations are for the dungeon redesigns. It’s seeming like they want to make dungeons exclusive to Elite players. Even a level 80 with exotics and a fairly competent player can find AC has lost any resemblance to “fun” and this IS the entry level dungeon.

Expert mode versions seem to me a much, much better use of Arenanet development resources, expanding the appeal of the content, rather than gating it to all but a small portion of the player base.

I honestly can not understand the motivation.

That’s what I was thinking.

Do story modes at the level and explorables at 80. I mean you can’t even make use of the explorable tokens until you are at least 60 right?

Yesterday I joined a PuG to venture down an AC path in explorable. In our group we had a Mesmer that had NEVER ran AC. To add to this, none of us had been in AC since the update and, yet – it went extremely well! It went so well that we stayed to run all three paths! We loved every bit of it, including the Ghostbusters fight.

My point is, we had somebody in the group that had never ran AC before and he loved the dungeon. It isn’t impossible for PuG’s or even new players to enjoy it. Sometimes change is good.

i’ll tell you fair and straight what is the issue…

REWARDS….

When a lvl 35 dungeon gives the same reward as a lvl 80 you know you have a problem.
(also the best dungeon weapon skins possibly)

So players that want to play at their level or want a progressive difficulty to learn to play dungeon get frustrated….

And seems nobody care this game is becoming all about having more than Others rahther than playing the game itself.

Obviously this had a huge impact on community behavior….its not the good friendly community you had the first month….the game pushes you to grind and farm…

If someone has access to something, it becomes less appealing and noobish and players start to ask exclusive content to show they are pro in LA.

Remove lvl 80 exotics and rares from AC.
Reduce difficulty according
Leave the skins.

This is what should have been done.

It would cause an uproar now so i suppose best choice would be:
-Change level to the AC
-release a new one for lvl 35 with REWARD AND DIFFICULTY appropriate to the level.

Would be a nice experiment…..

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

How about people asking for harder challenge suck it up and accept harder challenge with the same rewards? If you truly want a harder challenge, the challenge in itself should be rewarding enough for you.

As soon as you start adding HM, the only viable option for most groups becomes HM. The whole economy balances around HM and people who don’t want to run HM (because the reality is that HM pushes out less optimal builds and retains a similair difficulty to players who optimise their parties and builds, it’s not actually harder for them, they just have less viable build choices to complete it). This is what happened in GW1, this is what is happening in FotM and it’s what will happen if they add HM to dungeon explorables.

So correct me if i’m wrong, if most of the people want to stay on noob level skill, other good players have to stay on their lvl?
