that just means you were bad/in bad parties. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt since full zerk DPS eles are aggro magnets and in parties where things don’t die quickly they’ll get destroyed pretty easily compared to almost every other zerk class.

because putting down lava font and pressing heal + arcane wave is 3 years. even LH dragon tooth + rof + phoenix isn’t long and the skills themselves do good damage.

then again I shouldn’t be arguing with you, you’re kittened and don’t know what timezone you’re in so I’m probably wasting time.

Don’t expect any decent might stacking through combo fields in pugs since they don’t care about combo fields or priorities. Don’t expect pug ele to use good builds and lightning hammer. LH does ton more damage than warriors, as does staff.

Your experience with pugs doesn’t say anything about the class, it says something about the players. We just did a dungeon tour of almost all dungeons after reset with this group composition : 1 engineer, 2 elementalists, 1 guardian, 1 mesmer, yes, no warrior and their unique banner buff and it still went as fast as any of our casual (not record attempts) dungeon speedruns. Unless you’re going for a “record attempt” warriors aren’t even needed at all for a strong and fast dungeon run. The banner buffs are nice to have but they’re not so essential that you’d slow down to a grind without them.

And if you can’t pull dps on a thief that says something about you, not the class. Thief is absolute, top tier dps.

You’re just a strife wannabe, someone who had a look at strife videos, or was influenced by someone who watched his videos and think they’re still relevant for anything in this game. Except that he left the game and is not going to update anything anytime soon.

I trust in what I see, I don’t care about numbers on the paper. On the paper it says thief outdamages warrior , both of my chars are geared full zerker \scholar and my thief is not even coming close. I can just spam axe 11 and outdamage thief without even a proper rotation with GS\mace.

An ele without GS is weak. I have seen it several times. Joined a coe p3, with 2 eles, I tought it gonna be fast , 4 FGS woot! But it wasent going too well we failed to stack against the wall properly so we couldnt use the FGS and killing stuff took forever. We couldnt even one shot destroyer because there’s no wall. Unless you prove me the opposite with ingame gameplay I will still believe that the only thing that beats a warrior is FGS.
For a speed kill , I guess having an ele is faster than 4 warr but for an entiere dungeon path …. ele is slow\weak\ hard to play which makes this class worse than a warrior.

And again the might stack takes too much time and rooted while doing it . The ele might even die before a fight .

It might help if that thief is running a proper build and not something along the lines of 0/0/30/10/30 or some other random trash build that most thieves use. Also before you go any farther please watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JGD2yDFlPU. Its a video of an ele soloing AC p3 in the time it takes a typical 4 warrior pug group to finish the path.

Ewww I am bad and played with bad ele so it’s not possible to kill the destroyer in one try

Notice the absence of timewarp which most of war pug scrubs rely on to get it done.

Any crap build is “viable” in pve, as in sure, they can finish a dungeon. Zerker is the smartest, most efficient build for dungeons. There’s really no debate.

“Viable” means nothing. Anything is viable in PvE. But very few are optimal. We call those optimal builds “meta.” And all metas use zerk/assassins.

Actually there is. Some classes are better with mixing in some assassins.

@ sarah: PvE is boring. It’s repetitive because Anet does not add enough new content. They don’t even have a dungeon team anymore. So yes, the only thing PvE is good for is farming cash, and that means it is 100% a “time trial racing game”

Honestly don’t care THAT much about full zerk in pugs, just wanted to add a bit of controversy in there hehe.

I’m guilty myself of swapping to a few celestial parts sometimes. A few knights or valkyries are fine too. Going PVT, Dire, Apothecary etc on the other hand is unacceptable, if you need it to survive you’re doing it wrong.

Having a party of full zerk not only makes things go faster, it makes things easier. People also like easier, however, there is still a level of organization that must be attained for best results. Sure we can blow through a dungeon very fast, but we also know what skills and traits to swap in for each encounter, when to use them, tells to watch for etc. Sure, in pugs where people are often running tanky, they don’t need to know all that stuff, they just whittle away at the enemy while taking the hits.

In a pug, I never complain about low dps, that’s just what you get when you pug. You often get to see how playing full dps has paid off, because you’ve truly learned the mechanics of an encounter when your defense oriented team has all died because they relied on their stats instead of knowledge to keep them alive. Whereas, a good zerker will still be standing because he truly knows the encounter. Any good arah soloer see’s this nearly everytime they pug.

Viable, viable…viable.

phacking everything is viable in this game, doesn’t mean it’s good or anyone should run it.

I’m just going to post my 44 min cof 1 video with ultra bad builds, FULL WAYFARER’S GEAR (magic find/vitality/toughness) and play-how-you-want playstyles every time someone mentions how their bad builds are “viable”.

You can’t compare Thief DPS to a Warrior’s in PuGs.
Warrior can easily self sustain Fury, decent amount of Might, and Banner buffs.
Thief can easily self sustain 10 seconds of Fury every 30 seconds or so… at the cost of 5% flanking damage.
You need to be in a party that can give you that Might/Fury/Banner buffs and then you can compare DPS, and when you’ve seen a Thief dish out 6 pseudo-Eviscerates in a second you’ll see what we’re all on about.

Also Ele has god tier damage, if you haven’t realised that by now then I really don’t know what to say. Expecting PuG Ele’s to be good is like expecting a PuG anything to be good, yes I’m looking at you Shout Heal, GS auto attacking Warriors.

It’s sad when I don’t see Eles spawn fiery gs in a stacked wall fight. I’m not even that into getting the absolute fastest runs, but seeing those crazy numbers is very enjoyable.

As an IRL teacher, I know that good teachers understand that there will be people out there who know more than you do, and the best thing you can do, to teach well, is to accept that you won’t always be right. Learning more is always the way to be an effective teacher.

Very disappointed.

What’s the true definition of pug ? You are also a pug unless you are in a guild party 100% of the time. And yes frostbows are no better than bearbows. At least when you go with wars only its a guaranteed succes. There will be no surprise like “what is FGS?”

Not sure if serious but this is wrong, in RPGs casters almost always hit the strongest at the expense of survivability

Warrior PUGs aren’t even guaranteed successes. Half the time they don’t even bring banners, or if they do, it’s a banner of defense.

One time I had a PUG warrior refuse to drop a banner because he “wasn’t traited for it.”

Even pugscrubs can do it if they have an elebro to back them up!

Still want to do it with a serious group one day and pull off a 16k meteor into FB into FGS + LF to kill it in sub 10 secs

I’m sorry that my post upset you. But I have seen a degradation in the constructive ness in your posts since your realization that the majority of dungeon forum regulars (and teachers, I might add) accept the dungeon meta and believes that to teach newbies the ropes, the dps meta is not just necessary but required in producing knowledgable dungeon runners.

If you’re telling your students that they do not need to be full dps in order To complete a dungeon, that’s fine, but if you are misguiding them saying it is just as good for them to wear whatever gear they like and trait however they like, I feel sorry for them. If they ever do convert to the meta they will likely not appreciate your information, as they will have wasted gold and time on gear and strategies that are not the most efficient way of doing things.

That’s my only point, and I hope you understand that it isn’t personal. I just dislike seeing the quality of previously good posters degrade so much.
