I’ve been trying to learn Tempest in higher level fractals, and I’m pretty new to it. I was fighting the champion ettin and shaman bosses, but couldn’t see anything with all the spell effects going around.

Since I’m a zerker tempest, a rogue attack can one-shot me from near full health. How am I supposed to react to something that I can’t see? I’ve been relying on intuition or the rare opportunity that the bosses aren’t plastered with visual effects, but that can only get you so far.

Is there something I’m missing? L2P issue? Anything I can do? Thank you.

What weapon are you using?

For those particular mobs, you should see an orange telegraph on the ground. Turning down your graphics setting can make it easier to see.

It’s definately not L2P, this is a common issue.

To tone down on spell effects, there is a tickbox below your graphics options labeled “Effect LOD”. When it’s checked the game will reduce on the effects of fields and explosions it displays. Sadly this can turn some clues from some enemies completely invisible so use it with caution.

Also someting, that adds to the cludder are Legendary weapons. If a charr/norn warrior is standing in front of you and uses hundred blades with Sunrise/Twilight/Eternity They can easily block your view of the enemy entirely (It can be literally up to 1/8 of your entire screen area.) This cannot be prevented; even if your graphical settings are the absolute minimum Legendaries and their effects are always loaded.

Something that may help (especially in the scene you described) is setting the target (default Ctrl+T) on the enemy you are currently focussing, so you have at least an idea of where you have to aim/where the next attack may come from.

Imo, the worst offenders for “can’t see kitten” are still Mossman (thanks to brown on brown on top of brown with a bit of brown mixed in) and the Anomaly.

Positioning goes a long way, as in your example the ettin has a blind spot where he doesn’t hit with his swing, given you don’t have aggro and otherwise you’ll get a feeling for when he’s attacking/you should be able to at least somewhat spot the longer animations through the effects, same with the shaman.

Do you have effect LOD turned on in the settings? If not, do it, it’ll likely help you a lot.
