I know these two classes well.
I don’t think power reaper is very desirable, but DH is ok. Try to get an ascended scepter and torch (and maybe sword) for it so you can do higher dps if your group doesnt need prot.
reaper still has a long way to go…
Sad, but on the bright side I get to play fashionwars this week end on a character I have not touched in a long time I guess.
Power Hammer DH is a thing for raids so you’d be better off with that. Although as of the patch a guild member was telling me that now GS is better than Hammer if you don’t need the protection. Maybe someone can confirm this.
Guard/DH Greatsword got some serious love this patch, it should be extremely competitive.
But yes Hammer is still really good.
Dragon Hunter in General is super viable and has several options going for it.
I think GS still suffers because it just doesn’t have much utility. It’s not like scepter and sword symbol that offers decent boons. Condi reaper got buffed and the GS buffs actually benefit condi reaper a lot. Condi reaper is still very good and situational depending on boss. In terms of DH, current DPS symbol and hammer still reign supreme.
I’d recommend running GW2 helper when you raid so you can look at how much buffs you have and how well you do in raids, remember mechanics are more important than being that top percentile of DHs.
Paying attention to the mechanics and making sure you’re staying in buff range and getting buffs from your team will make you kill bosses not playing some class you have no idea how to play.

What? What condi reaper is using GS?

I think they only use nightfall #4, then swap back to condi set.

What
If reaper can make a comeback it will be with the condition gs/dhumfire/sc/dagger rotation that was uploaded recently. Power reaper aint gonna be picked now or in the future unless something big happens.
Also better get sword/torch/scepter for the guard. As it is protection is very secondary as buff as groups get better with avoiding direct dmg. Pulse dmg during some raid bosses cannon be reduced through protection and one shot mechanics will still one shot anyway.

The boons you get from those symbols are irrelevant. Fury upkeep is so easy you really don’t need sword. Personally I’ve been getting higher damage with GS + sc/t than with the sw+sc/t build, so yes, it is competitive and possibly even meta.
A lot of people in this thread seem surprised by condi necro using greatsword. Here is a relevant video that was shared on reddit:

I have tested the GS Dhumfire condie reaper. and i will admit its pretty fun. It is a melee based rotation.
I got the same Damage out put running the standard Curses Blood reaper
that being said. I think they both work reasonably well and can be used Boss to Boss depending.
However bottom line is that its still miles behind other condition classes.
Edit:
as an addenum, The Quantify benchmarks were posted today and just something to think about concerning GS condie Reaper.
"""
The problem with farbstoffs condi necro rotation is, a big part of your damage relys on combo finishers in chill fields. You will almost never be able to do combofinishers in a real raid where you have constant light, fire and ethereal fields underneath you. Also necro reached only 30k with UNREALISTIC buffs which is still lower than for example a condi warrior with realistic buffs. So what would be the point at bringing a necro ever?
"""
That being said. I still love my reaper. But yes i love it enough to know when i need to bring something else for the benefit of the group I am playing in.

Brazil just did a test on power reaper with GS (again) and got 22k with realistic BUT he wasn’t running 4 stacks of GOTL, so it should actually be about 24k.
24k is literally 1k less than Hammer guard. It’s still a viable option (even though not optimal) and it brings Vampiric Aura for a group DPS increase as well (something guard does not do).

A GS guard gets 30k tho… The only reason you’d run hammer is for survivability. That being said, at this point anything is viable. I can’t even remember the last time we hit enrage.
Since raid-sellers run 5-7 people, we can be pretty sure that each person in a 10-player group and do 30% less damage than benchmarks and succeed. There’s really no reason to discriminate on the basis of profession alone.
However, a PUG commander has no idea as to what sort of performance they’ll actually get from their PUGlings, so they’ll look for easy ways to filter potential members. Excluding certain classes has at least a basis in logic, compared to kicking because someone can’t ping the requisite LI.
Hammer guard is a good choice. It brings decent support (protection/CC) to the fight as well as being quite easy to play so it SHOULD be fairly easy to find pugs accepting this compared to power reap.

I suspect (but obviously can’t prove) that the “group utility” of “don’t bleed out”, and “teleport, and partially revive, downed players”, traits on necromancer is more highly valued by the developers than the playerbase, too.
I can see why they might think that: it can turn a mistake by someone into a relatively small DPS loss for the necromancer, and recovery for the team — and a slightly slower kill is definitely better than a wipe.
For what little that is worth…
