I want to make a dungeon group can a dev tell
You don’t need any specific classes, although the way some game mechanics work make excessive “stacking” of similar classes wasteful.
For example, you can only have 25 stacks of bleeding on any creature, so if all the members of your party rely on bleeding to do most of their damage (and each can easily do about 10-15 stacks), the whole will be smaller than the sum of its parts. It’s still doable, it’s just less efficient than replacing half the party with classes that use different types of damage.
Likewise, it’s a waste to cast 5 feedback bubbles on the same enemy at the same time (although, if your party is well coordinated, they might be able to time them perfectly after each other).
So any class combination is viable (even 5 characters of the same class and spec), but you’ll generally benefit more from having a mix of classes.
Some people might tell you to “always bring a guardian”, “always bring as mesmer” or “always bring an elementalist”, and those classes do indeed have some abilities that are particularly handy in some spots (aegis, wall of reflection, feedback, portal, ice bow, etc.), but none of them is really necessary anywhere.
you can grab anyone and do anything (Arah might be a little more of an exception), but if you use the LFG tool from gw2lfg (you can even specify what path you want in it as well). You can find who you need for whatever dungeon or path you want to do. You just have to be the man(or woman) to make the party and go for it. The only difference is by taking pugs you increase your chances of failure slightly, but if you tough it out, you can still complete the dungeon.
Professions don’t matter as much as the spec of the player. It’s best to have a mix of dps and support — a team of 5 people specced as glass cannon dps, for instance, will probably have a very hard time.
+Felzza – Elementalist
+Roienna – Guardian
I would say just grab anyone, though people have to accomodate and change their playstyles to complement the team. It is just situational awareness. In my opinion, it is the attitude of the players that matters.
I remember we did a dungeon run of about 2 engineers and 3 thieves. We completed it with little problems once we assigned “roles” to each member.
Everyone’s comments are certainly encouraging but I was looking for a Anet employee reply. As I have not recieved one the only conclusion I can come to is that dungeons are in fact designed for certain party makeups for which I really have no knowledge on. Well thank you all who replied I can tell you were trying to help and your kindness was indeed noticed.
I’m not sure how your only conclusion is the exact opposite of everyone who tried to help with your quandary.
Just so you know, a dev is not more qualified than a competent player to answer this question.
I am sorry but I did plainly state in the thread title that I was hoping for a dev to share some helpful insight to my problem. As they are the ones who sat at the meeting tables and brainstormed or programmed how it should be. I acknowledge your kind effort to defend the others and their outstanding generosity. But don’t misunderstand they were never under any attack by me. If it will alleviate any future confusion then I will glady thank you all again by saying that your heartwarming effort to help is proof of how great this community is.
I can understand how my question may be perceived as menial but they are people too they eat, laugh and love. To place them in the category of “they are to good for you” would be silly knowing this. We can’t be afraid to ask questions about anything ever, even if they were omnipotent beings. Just remember a quote from a famous captain I grew up with “What does …God… need with a star ship?”.
Thank you for your reply skinnyb the effort to help has certainly not waned since my initial post. My question how ever still stands for any dev who may wish to reply.
