Infusions and "Offensive/Defensive" slots
Bumps this up still trying to figure this one out or to be pointed in the right direction.

different infusions supply different stat combos based on whether they are offensive or defensive.
Yeah ATM I think only green infusions are in the game but sooner or later you will see higher ones, that add more to differant stats, I believe there is one for every stat, each adding +5 (power/prec/tough/vit/CD/etc) Just need to find the recipes.

So it is just for varying stat combinations then, there is no need for a certain amount of ‘offensively slotted infusions’ compared to defensive ones, its simply down to how you prefer to mix and match stats. Very cool (though correct me if I’m wrong LOL) I appreciate the answer Robert!
And thank you as well Dempsey, I caught on reading earlier that only the green ones are in the game and that we haven’t found all the recipes, so now it is making more sense. I just didn’t understand the need for two different slots (offensive and defensive).

Robert, would it be impossible for me to ask you what you think of Agony and Ascended gear? I know I’d probably not get a reply for this though :O
has anyone even found an offensive infusion yet?
A book is a defensive item, designed to ward off blows(?). As such it has a defensive slot.
A quiver is an offensive item, designed to carry sticks with sharp points. As such it has an offensive slot.
:D
has anyone even found an offensive infusion yet?
Fojja – Vyxxi – Nymmra – Mymmra – Champion of Dwayna .. and more
Highly Over Powered Explorers [HOPE] – Desolation EU

thanks.
and lol at +5 precision, it’s almost like it’s there only to justify the existence of different infusion types.

this whole infusion thingy is kinda confusing…or i am confused and just dont know it.
i mean, you can make “infused” an ascended item without consuming the infusion slot, so it gives more agony resistance passively. the recipe though, requires condensed mist essence. Does that mean that one can further infuse an item using crystallized mists, or does the item cycle of upgrade ends the first time you infuse it?
also, regarding infusion slots, do they work like other slots or are the different infusions one might put into permanent?
^ i’ll guess that you can replace a current infusion with a new one, destroying the existing one in the process.
and ascended items with “infused” on the name are just ascended items that have a natural agony resistance without taking up an infusion slot.
im guessing infusion is like an agro stat … if 2 equaly geared warriors both sword swinging distance the one with the offensive infusion will be the one who takes the agro frist being more “tank” like while defenecive less likely to get attacked….
so the price of more damage on a ranger with a quiver is the chance of more likly takeing some agro

…what?
there is no agro stat.
As I suggested earlier, please add an npc that gives a tutorial on infusions. Its weird how none of this is actually explained in game.

I think he/she talks about another thing that mobs takes into account when choosing a target. And it would be quite logical if they did.
Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
But aggro works differently on all kinds of mobs. Some mobs target the closest, some mobs target the furthest, some mobs go for the highest toughness etc. Infusions which interact with aggro in this manner are only keeping in line with how the game already works.
Is it intended that there is no 75 Fractal Relic cost Offensive Infusion on the FotM vendor? It seems that Offensive Infusion slot is currently disadvantaged compared to Defensive Infusion rather arbitrarily.

I would really like an answer to this. I see this question posed everywhere but no answers. I want to know before I spend my tokens. I’m at a point where I need infusions, but I need offensive ones. As it stands now you can get a defensive Infusion for 75 relics but it costs 225 for offensive. But they have the exact same stat (+5 Agony resist).
I feel like I’m being punished for making a quiver instead of a book. Is this intentional? it it going to be fixed? should I hold onto my relics?

Yep. I regularly ask people that made the quiver if they just don’t understand the system.

Clearly not or no one would have ever made a quiver. It makes no sense at all if this is by design. I mean. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be infusion types, but it seems a plain offensive one is missing. And it also seems that there is no point to even having the defensive. Since all it does is just give +5 resist. What is the point of having 2 or 3 types?
I really just want to know if this is an oversight that intends to be fixed or if I just kittened myself by making a quiver.
The problem people are having is that we havent identified a large number of infusions yet. So everyone is confused.
There are 3 infusion slots
offensive
defensive
omni
There are 3 types of infusions
offensive
defensive
versatile
Offense goes to Offense
Defense goes to Defense
Versatile goes to Offense, Defense and Omni
Offense and Defense go to Omni
Offensive infusions give offensive stats, for example, the mighty infusion gives +5 power
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mighty_Infusion
Defensive infusions give defensive stats, for example the vital infusion gives +5 vitality
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vital_Infusion
Versatile infusions Can give either defensive or offensive stats (I believe.) Currently the only one I know of is the one that simply gives agony resistance. I would assume that versatile infusions cost more/rarer materials to make than defensive/offensive counterparts
Example of a versatile infusion:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Versatile_Simple_Infusion
Almost every ascended item has a duplicate with the same stats but a reversed infusion slot. For example, the red ring of death and the crystalline band. The red ring has an offensive slot, and the crystalline band has a defensive slot. Thus anyone looking for the “most damage” ring would choose the red ring of death, as then they can put offensive infusions into it and gain additional damage stats.
Make a little more sense now?
Make a little more sense now?
Not really. While all that information is great, I already knew that and understood it. What is bothering me and so many others from what I’ve seen with the search function, is the relic purchased infusions. They are supposed to be cheap and easily accessible it seems but currently it looks like this.
Defensive slot – Defensive infusion = 75 relics
Offensive slot – Versatile infusion = 225 relics
Omni slot – Defensive infusion = 75 relics
So if you have an offensive slot ring, or back you are forced to shell out 3x as much relics as anyone with the other 2 slot types. But you get the same exact stats! Now I’m ready to buy my infusions but I’m wondering should I be waiting till they add an offensive infusion to the vendor or should I just buy the Versatile?
What is the point of farming 250 t6 mats and spend like 5 gold to gain an additional +5 stat? Why not just wear a better exotic ring?

Hopefully I can help you out with that.
(1) Most crafted infusions do not cost 250 t6 mats they cost 100 also they are in no way required, as you can get infusions for relics instead. You do not need to make an infusion at all to benefit from getting an ascended item.
(2) The extra 5 to 1 stat is on top of the stats ascended items have.
(3) Ascended items are better than exotics even without the extra +5 to a single stat. here are some pics of comparison
Rare Ring
Exotic Ring
Ascended Ring
As you can see here
Going Rare to Exotic you will gain
15.0% to primary stat
14.5% to secondary stat
20.0% to crit stat
Going Exotic to Ascended
11.9% to primary stat
7.9% to secondary stat
33.3% to crit stat
Nearly as significant an upgrade as going rare to exotic. Some could argue more significant for certain stats. The +5 is just icing on the cake.

What I am trying to say is that to go through all the trouble to gain+5 precision stat on top of agony for infusions by using all those mats which can go into mystic clovers is not worth it at all. Might as well wait for better increased rare infusions or better in the future.
But then again I bet they r going to make u craft it like how they do with the backpiece.

That depends on whether you direly need the agony resistance.
You could also infuse your backpiece. Infusing is different from adding an infusion, in that infusing adds innate agony resistance to your item.
Take your backpack
250 ecto
1 gift of ascension
1 glob of mist essence
to the forge. That will infuse your item. It wont use up the infusion slot, but it will give you additional agony resistance.
If you still need agony resistance after that, then yes, you should consider buying the versatile infusion, or making an offensive infusion.

Yes I direly need the resistance. With no ring yet and dipping past T2 I am in need of resist. but I’ve been putting off purchasing the infusions for the reasons I mention before.
I’ve given a lot of thought to infusing my back piece but not only is it expensive but I also dont have enough vial’s of condensed mists essence to turn into a glob yet. So it’s just not an option. I may just buy the versatile infusion because I really do need it. But like I said it seems like it’s pure oversight. So I was hoping that some patch soon it would be changed/added/fixed. If that were true I could just hold onto my relics for a week then buy. But I’m hardly the first person to ask about this. And so far still no answer from ANet.

as far as I’m concerned there is only 1 reason to craft infusions right now, and that’s if you have gold to burn. So I’m right there with ya. I just want to buy them from the relic vendor.
Offensive slot = **** now I have to waste extra relics to buy the 225 one.
There’s absolutely no reason why there isn’t an offensive only infusion for 75 relics. Offensive offers no benefit over defensive. Why is offensive treated like omni-stat?
(edited by havoc.8569)
Yep. I regularly ask people that made the quiver if they just don’t understand the system.
A book would look stupid on my warrior. I went quiver and got the versatile infusion. Simple.
Well I spent the Relics… since this last patch didn’t fix this issue. What a waste.
