I was in an incredible group that was doing fantastic, but then one person had to leave. The instance we were in was apparently started by that character, so when she left, everyone got kicked out of the dungeon and we had to start over.

This is totally mediocre and needs to be fixed immediately.

I agree, Also I had the experience of having a party member leave and we couldn’t get a replacement in because the replacement kept getting his “own instance dungeon” he couldn’t join us at all! We all zoned in and out and just couldn’t get our 5th member in the SAME dungeon instance as us… it was so frustrated that we all disbanded and left.

Yup. Not sure who thought up the idea of having group instance starter be the sole owner of the entire instance. It should pass between others like in most MMO’s.

Never! ANet is different at all costs! Even if it means they’ll adopt a totally kitten system, like they did for so many aspects of this game.

It’s from launch hundred people is asking a fix of this issue. Anet never fixed it, they just ignore it as a major anomaly to be addressed, as much as the kick system.
Hopeless. Just look last pacth, lol.
So if the OP thinks to be a good player not leaving never a dungeon, be the leader next time, less risk.

What dungeon? Was it story mode or explorable mode? If it was explorable mode, was the person who left the only one who had acces to explorable mode (IE, the rest of the party hadn’t done story mode)?

Anet fixed a lot of problems regarding the separate instances, they are happening WAY less often than before, give them some credit (only happened to me once since they patched it few weeks ago).
