I remember when the Mesmer Specialization dropped there was lots of speculation, to a lesser extent with the Guardian. The Reaper got a little attention while we debated if it would be enough to get the Necro in the meta.

Yet today they dropped the Ele info and there isn’t a thread on it. Did we wear ourselves out or did it just get to the point were we normally are when we just go “Meh, whatever.”

Maybe there will be more interest in it when the live stream hits, anyway

Thoughts?

I myself was hoping for a sword, but War horn, and 8 new skills.

Harness the Elements!
Each attunement will obtain its own overload ability, and here’s how they’ll work:

Overload Fire: Allow flames to leak out from your essence, building an infernal tornado over time that continuously damages and burns enemies while granting allies might. Successfully completing the ability leaves the tornado at your current location for a period of time.

Overload Water: Pull water into an aquatic bubble around you as you regenerate and cleanse conditions from yourself and nearby allies. At the end of the ability, your water bubble pops to give a larger heal to nearby allies.

Overload Air: Become a conduit of electricity, creating a nimbus cloud above you that repeatedly strikes nearby enemies, rending their armor. Successfully completing this ability leaves a lightning field at your location that strikes enemies in its vicinity.

Overload Earth: Rend the earth, bend it to your will, and take a ride on it, granting protection to nearby allies and crippling enemies. When you return to earth, deliver a tremendous immobilizing blast.

This portion sounded kinda interesting, although not really to useful. What they mean by rending armor, unless its a vun thing.

“We have now left Reason and Sanity Junction. Next stop, Looneyville.”

I knew the elementalist specialization would disappoint once I knew it wouldn’t be sword mainhand.

They are too out of touch, they don’t understand that out of all the things elementalist needed it was not another offhand but a better mainhand for better melee options.

Some of the skills look like they have potential to be decent, but as far as PvE is concerned I’m not feeling like this is gonna be anything other than just side stuff. We will have to try things out for ourselves and this is obviously just speculation but none of the elite specializations have stood out for me other than chronomancer.

There’s been a rumor that warrior’s will be titled “Berserker” and use torch, but I have no confirmation on anything and this is the only one left that I’m looking forward to at this point.

I have no faith in thief’s being interesting, not sure what to expect for engi, don’t really care about ranger, and still have a bitter taste in my mouth from the last beta test for revenant so I can’t help but expect to be disappointed for it :P

I assumed the whole torch thing was just a joke, but after seeing Warhorn I’m pretty much losing faith in anything good coming from the rest of the specs. Hoping Reaper isn’t going to be a novelty spec in PvE but there is no end to disappointment with that class…

Remember that specialization are not here to be better than the main class. It’s not an evolution, it’s another way to play your class. If the specialisation is completely OP and fix all the bad points of the main class, noone would play ele anymore and everyone would play tempest.
Here they offer us the opportunity to choose 2 playstyles.

elementalist who can swap between lot of attunement and use lot of different habilities.

tempest who can be a good melee support by staying in the same attunement and getting buff for his team with overcharge.

Two different playstyle, some will play the first, and somme will prefer the second one.

The other thing to remember is that a Tempest doesn’t have to even use the Warhorn. I do expect that the Warhorn will be better than people give it credit for being at this juncture, but it likely won’t have projectile absorbs or invuls like Focus, and likely won’t be as single target bursty as Dagger. I’m expecting lots of fields, lots of extra blasts, and hopefully some good DPS boosts that can be used in conjunction with Lightning Hammer. That said, I knew that whatever came out of the Elementalist elite specialization wasn’t going to have more DPS than Staff, so I’m not sure what people really expected from Sword.

Hopefully it’s cool. Only 5 hours ’til we find out!
