Interrupting priests in Arah path 4
I know the phenomena your talking about, but it’s a mystery to me as well. It plays as though he has a cc-immunity period after he is stunned a few times which you just have to wait out, but its a completely hidden mechanic. Interestingly, the first golem suit boss in SE story mode (the one that puts down necro-looking wells) has the same thing. It’s very easy to encounter if you’ve ever tried to keep interrupting his wells to stay in melee.

This makes me think that there are mechanics in-game similar to DR on crowd control skills, yet why anet decided to scrap them for all but a couple of rare encounters and replace them with lazy defiance, I have no idea.
At first I thought this was some hidden effect of the bloodstone buff the bosses in p4 have, but when there are other enemys that behave like that, then I have no idea.
I think the crusher in path 3 shows this behavior, too. Well, with HoT the defiance system will change anyway. For the better I hope…

Does anyone know what exactly is the reason that Melandru gets totally disabled by using Sanctuary or Power Block?
The same question can be asked about the destroyer and the husk in coe, though i don’t know if Power Block works there.
Power Block won’t disable Melandru totally, he still spawns his trees (if you interupt his knockback). Using Bower Block to easily kill Melandru was the idea behind my thread. The recent record from LoD did it with a single interrupt (I think), so you don’t have to strip defiance multiple times and dont run in the problem I described here. But im my fl/guild, we don’t always have meta comps and their dps, so we had to power block him multiple times – and failed. Hence this thread.

Power block will work it’s wonders on any boss that has a primary ability that it spams or just a single ability, giving that ability a 10 second cooldown post-interrupt making it superior to Deep Freeze in some scenarios. About sanctuary, it only permanently disables stationary bosses as those don’t get knocked out of the CC area.
Power block works well on Melandru because it’s stomp ability is by far the most dangerous it has and it’s basically spammed.
For some reason this works only on skills that have a cooldown. If you interupt the auto attack of the risen knight at the start of path 4 or just the autohit of another player in pvp, you won’t get the 10 sec cd.

That’s because it’s actually an auto-attack, not an ability. If chill can increase the cooldown of something, Power Block will work as well. Some other notable examples: Imbued Grawl Shaman arrow, Arah p1 ooze jump, Spiderqueen AoE (poison as well as immobilize)

Tremor, Stomp and some other abilities ignore Defiance on Melandru. At least that’s what people told me (which means you can also interupt when he has Defiance)
Never tested it myself though
