No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
I’m all for challenges but the end boss is ridiculous. Today 4x warrior (good gear, they know how to play, they didn’t die single time before last boss) + engineer tried the boss. We tried every possible way but there always spawns 50+ spiders. And even if you are heroic, at most you can take down 30 of them, but then other respawn and meanwhile the other 20 keep on ranged hitting you so hard, you are doomed. The engineer logged to guardian cause the guides says it requires a guardian. He used all reflection possible, even changed traits to prolong theis skills. Guess what half of the reflect didnt work (spiders to scattered), and they still trampled us, we tried this 5×... But 50 RANGED spiders is just over the top. You cant kill them fast enough to avoid damage, and defensive skills are not adequate enough to to protect you from their damage. What did Anet think when creating this path? I’m oh so glad i did this in an earlier incarnation when he was easier (i don’t need this achievement anymore), but i feel a lot of sympathy for new players, caus this is plain ridiculous.
Tune the spiders down Anet, will you. 10-20 is more then enough (or remove the veteran ones, they are not called veterans but they are that strong in stats (hp, damage) compared to the normal spiders).
When the guardian put up reflects did you stand inside the wall of reflection and shield of the avenger or did you stand behind it?
You know, I actually sat down with a pug one day and decided to do this.
It’s honestly not that bad of a fight. More than anything it seems like some decent fight dynamics are getting drowned in a sea of unintuitive confusion by the use of recycled animation and a lack of consistent visual language throughout the dungeon that associates somebody being hit with the consequence of something spawning.
Like you, we couldn’t get that reflection trick to work, because like most forum suggestions it’s pretty high risk/high reward. So we ended up treating it like Subject Alpha. Save your dodges for the right hand’s green liquid attack, and you’ll always have enough endurance to dodge twice in a row, which is long enough to effectively negate the spiders spawning.
More specifically;
The Left hand striking the floor causes spiked vines to pop up from the floor under each party member*. The Right hand striking the floor causes green balls of liquid to rain down from the ceiling and spawn spiders for however many hits it lands on your party. The cue for when you have to dodge exactly is subtle; both attacks cause the nightmare tree to shake like a dog drying off, but the Lefthanded attack will cause it to shake and then continue on to shake more vigorously. The vigorous shaking is specifically when the green liquid will appear, and when you need to dodge back-to-back.
We managed this fight by assigning a couple people to spider duty, to handle some adds that will spawn and aggro anyone within attacking range and any oopsie green liquid spiders you might get. We had the rest range it at 1200, and had them dodge to the left and right instead of back to avoid resetting the boss. If you put your mind to it you could probably come up with a melee-based alternative, but that’s just what worked for a pug.
*This is speaking from the viewer’s sense of left and right, and not the mob’s sense of left and right.

If this is the attack I think it is, it doesn’t affect all party members (if by “each” you mean all). The attack is a single target immobilize with a little dmg. This attack is mostly no big deal unless your party is using the kiting strat.
Ah, really? My bad.
I just assumed it was party-wide because I had to deal with it every time, but it’s totally possible the boss just hated me.

What I don’t understand, is right now I can look up a TAFU boss kill from any of the experienced guilds and literally all they do is run up to the tree and spam their DPS rotation, it dies and there’s like no spiders around at all.
Like, seriously, I can’t remember which guild it was but there was a video of the run they did, they ran up to the boss, stood there and just spammed rotations and killed it. How is that hard? You don’t even need zerker, you just need power main stat.
That was rT. Dubs blinds seemed to be a bit op.
And I can safely say that the 2 thieves kill the boss faster than majority of tafu pugs.
the amount of spiders do appear to be a little overtuned and they don’t reset with a wipe. But it doesn’t require much to deal with all the spider attacks.
Is there a way to prevent the spiders from attacking? Because basically just moving from a hallway to the boss already had you killed by the full room of spiders. If you blew your dodges, then you couldn’t dodge anything else. Basically ‘delay of execution’. But nothing more.
Also did they boost this boss at some point? I remember clearly doing him some times ranged (when the perfect spot on top of the roots still existed), but i also remember ‘lazy dpsing’ under the boss, and it worked just fine. I never ever remember 10+ spiders, let alone 50+.
majority of the spiders use projectile attacks so maintain projectile blocking skills under the tree and burn it down
I think everyone needs to be made aware that dodging when the tree shakes makes him not spawn spiders. I don’t understand why TA Forward/Up always only mean reflects + max DPS team composition to everybody, even pugs who can’t execute properly.
Reflect + max Power DPS should be the alternate but optimal strategy which makes nightmare tree go down faster.
More than anything it seems like some decent fight dynamics are getting drowned in a sea of unintuitive confusion by the use of recycled animation and a lack of consistent visual language throughout the dungeon that associates somebody being hit with the consequence of something spawning.
I think this is an issue with most of the dungeons in this game. I can dodge Lupi’s grub consistently, but the act of lifting a hand is not logically connected to the spawning of a grub.
Pets, spirits, turrets, etc. can’t dodge the spider spawning attacks and that can cause problems but yes, the PUG solution should just be to dodge the attack when the animation comes. Nothing new there.
Where’s the list btw?

Just tried this with 2 then later 3 guardians. The reflect thing doesn’t work because the vet spiders kill the party (their attacks can’t be reflected) The things doing the most damage to the tree were actually the reflected projectiles from the spiders as we were in melee range (under his head). We just could not survive all the stupid vet attacks. They really need to tune this boss down. 1 failure means the boss is nearly impossible to complete due to the spiders not despawning. Having a dungeon boss event not fully reset in a dungeon is a really poor design choice. On top of that having endlessly spawning adds that take more than a few hits to kill also makes for a poor design choice. There’s challenging, then theirs just stupid.
I know that some people can complete it using “The dodge roll” method, but seriously. Not everyone in the game can react (latency/low comp specs/lag/low personal reaction time) to the attacks and the wiki doesn’t really give a very accurate time of “When you should dodge”. From the wiki – As soon as he starts shaking, DODGE! THIS IS CRITICAL! – …I tried this and it was horribly inaccurate. even a double dodge roll failed at this moment. I only figured out a decent timing at the end of our attempts but no one else in the party was dodging, which is most likely the most common pug group you will encounter for this. Also, going off the wiki the first “Strategy” was the melee stacking one with reflects and what not. the second one is the ranged dodge roll method. So most typical pugs who actually use the /wiki command will more then likely go with the “Hey lets stack. Bring reflects.” method because its the first in the list.

For dodge roll method you have like 2-3s to react. No excuse.

Did you read what I stated? I was going off of what the wiki said. Which is wrong. (That old saying about never trust a wiki comes to mind.)
Based on that it means the players have to figure out the proper timing from rather difficult to see green balls flying down at really quick speeds, which also goes against what the wiki says. From the wiki – and green goo will float down from the ceiling. – Unless by floating they mean “like a rock”.
Also, if one person gets it wrong, then the whole party will probably start failing as well. Panic spreads rather quickly in most players.
Lot of months ago i did that path with 4 peoples and one dcd after killing vevina, so we 4 manned that boss, we didnt use any kind of glitch, etc, just clean spiders, range + dodge, spiders respawned (one atack the boss from time to time and clean spiders), range+ dodge, etc.
The group was a ele, a necro a war and my mesmer. One was a pug and the ele and the necro were downed frequently.
The path isnt that difficult.
Lot of months ago

The path isnt that difficult.
The TAFU final boss “bug” has been introduced recently.
About 1 or 2 months ago, iirc.
That’s why suddendly ppl have been posting tons of threads about it while before nobody said a word.
Ask Wukunlin if you want a list of them. :p
I have to admit I got tired of updating them, besides, I mentioned my pro guardian build alongside my list which is very outdated as MF gear is no longer available

Don’t use wiki. Use gw2dungeons.net!
Wtf? Where is the TAFU list?
No need to bother any more, as it is getting REPLACED by the new dungeon path :/
Lol… when making the op post two days ago i didn’t expect this at all. I was like ‘oh’ …. I rather had them just fix the boss and keep the path. More choice, more fun.
New TA path is replacing one of the original 3?
Wow.
Just. Wow.
When finally a small light of hope, the idea that Anet finally started pushing out permanent content over temporary one, finally starting adding stuff to the game…you discover that in order to put permanent content they take away some permanent content?

Will… Will Vevina live? Curse that name a thousand times but I’ve grown attached to that gal
