Majority of the “end game” Cursed Shore/Straits dynamic events have relatively the same difficulty as the dynamic events you have faced leveling up, aka very very easy.

The 5 man Exploration Mode dungeons are the pinnacle of PvE challenges in this game, they are also for the most part relatively easy in difficulty, but more leaning towards the tedious side in execution.

So…is there a point to max level?

Leveling is a side effect of enjoying the story and content. It is not the reason you are playing the game. Traditional MMOs leveling is made to be the reason you do content instead of wanting to do the content. In other words GW like a few other games are focused on the fun (enjoyment, quality of) as the driving reason to play. So the point of playing the game is to have fun doing the content not “I have to get to max level because that is where the really cool stuff is that I had to go through a level grind to get to”.

With the downscaling even at max level you can still have fun doing content again with friends and guild mates. Or make a new character with different choices to experience variation in the personal story. Back in the day RPGs were all about replay ability for long term enjoyment of the game. Then MMOs came along and introduced grind mechanics disguised behind polished poo. Sure it is shiny but is still poo. But people overlooked that fact because it was shiny. And they had to do it to get to the level cap to get that one really cool thing at the end of the game. But then there was no reason to play after that. So they had to continually repeat the same polished poo in order to get people to want to buy it. So why want polished poo when you can have a superior gaming experience like we got out of all the old games where quality of fun was more important than anything else.

At 80 you unlock the last three explorable mode dungeons. In terms of PvE, if you enjoy dungeons, there’s your answer. If you’d prefer challenging large-scale PvE (read “raids”) then no, there’s no point.

stuff

You are conflating “challenging PvE content that involves more than five people” with “boring grind.” It is possible to have one without the other.

Not for now. if they follow like GW1 the first few raid dungeons won’t be in the game until a major update to the game itself or in the next expansion pack.

Actually not exactly, the reason I replied the way I did is I got the impression the OP was looking for the “raiding” you get with other MMOs which is designed to be a grind tied in to gear. The worst of which gates each raid behind the previous raids gear. Which means endless grind until the next expansion releases to repeat the previous grinds. Not all games are as bad. For instance lord of the rings online has reduced the grind significantly by not gating raids but you still kind of have to grind to get the latest gear. But again not as much as other MMOs. But it still took me months (well over 100 hours of game play) to get the latest raid set.

I do like challenging content. And lord of the rings has some challenging raids. But it also has 6 man content that is just as challenging as the raids. The real difference is if they design the raid to take advantage of the larger number of players to perform tasks that you could not perform with a small group size. Not just more players make bigger monsters to counter the total dps. So my post had nothing to do with not wanting challenging content. I liked the challenge of “raids” just not the grind bundled with it.
