Q:

Lately, I have been reluctant to do dungeons because a lot of the time, I need to AFK almost every 3 minutes. Each AFK “session” could vary from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, depending on the situation. Is it allowed to join a dungeon group via LFG, then have to AFK every now and then? (I do realize that starting a dungeon will get you banned, but I don’t know about joining.) The reason why I ask is because people could just kick me out of the group instead of crying about how the instance starter is AFK and they now can’t finish the dungeon.)

A:

a. start dungeon and let people know you might have to afk from time to time
b. join dungeon and let people know you might have to afk from time to time

people will either be fine with it or in case of

a: leave
b: kick you

why would anyone be banned?

Apparently starting a dungeon and sitting on your bottom while everyone else steamrolls the dungeon is grounds for banning, so that’s why I asked. Ty for reply though, question answered

That doesn’t sound true at all.

I never heard of anything like that so I don’t believe it to be true. People are kittens to each other in dungeons all the time with actual verbal abuse and no one ever seems to get banned so I wouldn’t worry about that too much.

Having said that, I know people (you) have busy lives but going afk from time to time for 3-10 minutes? Seriously? Almost any path can be done in 20 minutes or less by even the worst of groups. Either allocate the time to finish a path or wait until you have the time.

It’s frowned upon by some players to go afk in dungeons but it’s by no means a bannable offense.

I think it’s bad form, but not a bannable offense. Even afking the entire dungeon isn’t a bannable offense (although your party would be justified in kicking you). I echo what cranked said; if you really do need to go afk that often, I’d suggest not doing a dungeon until you can clear at least half an hour of free time to devote to it.

I don’t know about the OP, but from my experience there are life situations where “allocate the time to finish” is simply not possible. If for example you have small children to look after, there’s no guarantee ever that you’ll have even 20 minutes uninterrupted. Put a baby down for a nap, look forward to a quite hour, and five minutes later the baby wakes up again …

OP, you may have a difficult time with pugs, but there are many people around that do understand the call of real life. Finding a guild that is fine with frequent afk-ing due to real life helps a lot, and there are many such guilds out there, you just have to look for them.

In our guild, we have a mother who has a very young baby, literally only several months old. She sometimes has to tend to the little fella for a while and I throw my gauntlet at anyone who would not give her the time to do so. If someone has a reason to ask for a few minutes here or there, then it would be discourteous not to do so.

If you’re too leet to wait a couple of minutes for people, then you’re not welcome in any group I host. People should understand that RL >>>>>>>> GW2.

o.o

If you’re going AFK that much I’m amazed you get anything done.

Having to AFK that often could get pretty annoying very fast to the rest of your team, especially for certain dungeons. If you need to do it that often, try just running dungeons with guildies and/or friends who know what’s up; random players probably won’t be as willing to wait. But yeah, that’s definitely not something you can be banned from the game for.

It’s definitely not a bannable offense, but it’s definitely a kickable offense. I understand you have real life, but when u start a dungeon yourself expecting everyone to finish it for you is kind of selfish. Even though it’s out of your reach.
Think that some people actually devote enough work to have that 20-30 minutes of interrupted time, just to get in a group that has an afk person that’s an opener. That dungeon he/she thought that can be finished before the kid wakes up, just got longer because another person is not participating in the run.
Maybe you should look into different areas of gameplay.

I think its not a bannable offense if you do it in dungeon groups, but you can be banned if you do it in pvp matches. There are people who join pvp matches and stay afk just to get the daily done and to farm achievements, in that case its definetly bannable.
