Jade Maw Classification
Who gives a kitten? Maw is a snooze fest anyway with stupid time gating.

In case it wasn’t obviously apparent…
I do….
Hence me posting this thread.
Thank you for your constructive statements, though. I’ll be sure to weigh your response in with all of the information I’ve gathered.
Erm, if a patch note from the game itself referred to Jade Maw as a kraken, then it seems that the debate is settled then, right? Wouldn’t the words of the game itself trump speculation?
According to the ingame data. Jade Maw is classified as an elemental and the tentacles are classified as wind riders.

Something not really uncommon for unique creatures in games nowadays.
(giving them a classification which suits game mechanics over lore)
Seems like the person who implemented this foe simply chose to populate the missing information with that of the foes around it since a more-fitting classification was not available….
…which is why its classification is even up for debate in the first place.
Now for the real question…
will an active potion of elemental slaying reflect this information?
If it does (which I doubt we’d really be able to test, due to the fight’s unique mechanics) it most certainly is worth mentioning on the wiki article.
Either way, thanks for the response.
Before you run off though…
Another question…..
In this in-game data…. is there even a classification “kraken”?
…what about leviathan?

Nope, neither of those exist.
And no you cant test for maw because you can only damage him through crystals and life steal. Which are not effected by potions. Maybe crystals are. I always assumed they were percentage health though. You would need a third party tool to read the health difference to check. And theres no wind rider potions available to check the tentacles.
Hm, maybe someone volunteers to wait 1 day (or was it 2?) until the dense scales buff, that makes jademaw invulnerable to normal dmg, runs out. Maybe it can be damaged with normal weapons then xD
As Spoj posted Jade Maw is an elemental, that was lifted from the game files, There is no debate to be had at all. Just because They referred to it as Kraken in the patch notes doesn’t mean that that’s it’s actual in game type. That was probably the choice of words in those patch notes to distinguish it from the fractal itself (which is also known as Jade Maw).
A slaying potion wouldn’t do squat on Maw since the only ways to deal damage is either through crystals (deals a certain % damage, unaffected by modifiers), killing tentacles (each killed deals a % damage [Maybe…it used to, then not, then again, you get the idea]), or through life steal (deals a set amount of damage, unaffected by modifiers) and the only attack Maw has is the beam (dealing % damage, set to 100%).
That said the Jade Colossi are also elementals, so feel free to use potion on them.
And the wiki is 99% player maintained. And it’s open to anyone to edit. If someone wished to set Jade Maw as ‘housewife’ there’s not much stopping him, someone would likely revert it, but tbh I don’t think that many care about fractal boss types anyway, (except the people in this sub obviously!).
and the only attack Maw has is the beam (dealing % damage, set to 100%).
I dont believe this is true. You can tank the hit with a necro in DS. And it doesnt even do 100% life force.

Fine…And the only attack Maw has is the beam (dealing % damage, set to 100% if we exclude necros exploiting DS).
Better?
No need to get snarky. :P
If its set to 100% it would remove 100% life force. Its most likely set to a value of 35k armour ignoring damage or something. DS does not equate to health equally. I believe life force is worth twice the amount of health. which is why you can survive with it.

My last post was a joke :p If it’s a set amount of damage…I (or anyone else) should try to bear-form tank it.

Tank….Bear….Bearbow?! ON IT!!
Bear-form does not work. I get OS with over 50k HP. It most likely is 100% of your HP. Bear-form only increases your hp (by giving you tons of vitality) while DS adds another healthbar on top of your regular. The regular one is unchanged so the beam deals 100% of that, and as you said you think LF counts for twice hp so you would survive that.
Lore-wise, the Jade Maw should be classified as a Leviathan type creature, given it’s locale, it’s characteristics, and it’s um… nature.
Mechanics-wise it can hardly even be considered a world boss. It’s one step above a scripted fight from a modern QTE generator. Only one thing hurts it and it’s not a profession mechanic of any kind.
Technically, the Jade Maw should be classified as a Nightmare or a Sleeping One. There’s a lot of lovecraft flavor to this one.
