Jade Maw is a bit ridiculous
Stop relying so much on your “F” key. Highlight the shards with your mouse and click them, you’ll pick it up and you wont have to worry about getting stuck to rez someone.
If you’d like, send me a message on the here and i’ll provide you with a very sound strategy that you can use all the way through 20+ fractal level that makes that fight even easier then it already is.
The skull not appearing is indeed annoying..
The deadly laser turn “invisible” is annoying.
And on personal experience, I rely on the sound effect of the attack to plan my dodge if there was no crystal near by, but the sound doesn’t always play.
When you rely your game on timing, these little things are important.
Really? honestly this is probably one of the easier fights in the game :/ ive never had any serious problems with it.
- Tentacles just 1-shot anyone who gets close.
We talking about lvl30+ right?
Because if tentacles 1-shot you at lower lvls something is wrong there.
Maw is much easier for me than any other boss, even with all the broken armour at the end.
Just have to stay together dodge tents and lasers if you can’t get a crystal.
Also u dont have to use the crystal if thats the last one,You can just drop it for some1 else
Level 30+ here, tentacles still not one shotting anyone. 300 fractals complete and level 30+ and I’ve never seen the skull straight up not appear. They can be occluded by various things (text box, some of the geometry and mobs) but I’ve never seen them not appear at all. Also, as someone else said, if a dead body is nearby, double click the shard to pick it up, F key will just keep trying to revive.
I’ve never seen anyone been 1 shotted by tentacles. They do like 5-7k damage, nowhere near a 1 shot.
As for the reflecting crystals, everytime you kill a tentacle, 1 will spawn. Additionally, several Jades will spawn(limited amount), those drops one each on kill too. You don’t just stand there waiting for a crystal to appear.
It’d be fine if the skulls appeared like they are supposed to. Here’s our current run (I’m downed right now):
- Skulls are not appearing over player’s heads a good part of the time.
– Shield USUALLY appears when it’s supposed to, sometimes we don’t get one.
– Tentacles just 1-shot anyone who gets close.
– When I did get a shield, it killed ME when I threw it at the boss (nothing else was around).
– The F button does EVERYTHING but pick up a shield. It picks up my turrets, revives the downed ally right next to the shield, and loots Jade Colossi (particularly frustrating when my bags are full). Can we PLEASE be able to set different buttons for things like this? It’s beyond frustrating.
Exactly, especially the F button part. There are several times people died with hammer, then hammer drop on their body. It’s impossible to pick up the hammer in this case because the only choice you could see is revive.
If you’re worried about having problems looting unlootable jade collossi (due to full inventory), then simply dump parts of your inventory prior to the encounter.
- Salvage a few blues (if they’re levl 80 then its a chance for ori or ancient wood), salvage salvage items, deposit collectables, throw away garbage (e.g. globs of globby goop).
You usually have time to do this when your mates are hitting the first two tentacles and before the transition. In fact it’s a good idea to do this anyways because you’ll usually want all the loot from the boss chest anyways.
From my somewhat limited experience I’ve noticed this fight is a lot easier if everyone stays out of range of the tentacle knockdowns. Melee colossus, range tentacles. If you want to ensure that it is impossible to lose the fight have one party member carry a crystal constantly and rez anyone who goes down. You lose dps so the fight takes longer but it makes it practically impossible to wipe.

You dont understand what he mean. There seems has a priority for looting when multiple things collapse together. Due to my experience revive is highest prority. This is why I say when people die with hammer you could never pick up the hammer except rezing him. When crystal at the same place with loot and body, then you press F, you get loot, press F again, you begin to rez, after all this cleared, you can get that valuable crystal by your F button.
You can move the cyrstals around by picking them up and dropping them again. Ive noticed good groups gather the crystals together and stay close so that situations like the ones you talk about are practically impossible.

Because when a big “F to pick up” message pops up on your screen it’s better to ignore it and use mouseclicks instead. Yeah, that makes sense.
How about it gets fixed so people can rely on their F key as they’re supposed to do.
You might see the skulls better if you weren’t reading the forums instead of helping your group.
This is a fun fight and I enjoy it. Managing the crystals by having some go out and kill tentacles and statues and bringing them back to the group brings something different to the game to do. Why exactly do you guys have EVERYTHING within grabbing distance. Spread out a little bit.
The skulls are also invisible when you put your camera up and when you are too close to the tentacles.

Highlighting the shards with your mouse is not always possible with dead Jades/players/turrets around. We got through the encounter eventually, even after a player dropped and we 4-manned it.

Well, being an engineer, I was staying long range. I did not know the people I was grouped with – it’s possible they were terrible players with very low health and/or lying about being one-shot, maybe some of their health was already missing. I got downed by tentacles a couple times trying to revive people or retrieve a shield, but in most cases, my health was already low.

I understand that’s SUPPOSED to be the case. But I’m telling you it didn’t happen a few times for us. It wasn’t a huge deal, the main thing that was destroying us was the lack of skulls showing up.
Dude, Jade Maw is the easiest boss ever, and you can skip the whole fractal to it.

I was dead with literally nothing to do, and no rez in my foreseeable future. I tabbed back in, and was still dead.

This is how we ended up beating it with four guys.
I didn’t mean this as a commentary on the difficulty of the encounter. If everything worked like it should have, we would have handled it just fine. I like the concept of the fight, it’s just frustrating when things don’t function how they should. I should have left the tentacle comment out – I was just frustrated at the time and including anything I could think of. The rest of the items on my list were things that I do not feel were working correctly.
The only possible scenario I could see where a tentacle one-shots someone is during the Agony transition. Then again, that’s not really a one-shot though.
Can it oneshot if a player isn’t wearing any armor or jewelry with vit/toughness?
No, levels 1-10 was in full berserkers/full berserker traits and they don’t do anywhere near 1 shot kills. Maybe a couple hits? Or maybe the team members meant the jade maw after the skull appears?
I’ve also never encountered the bug where the skull flat out does not appear; report it as a bug. Never encountered the bug where the crystal does not appear, although sometimes it appears and is stuck up high on the terrain.
