In Jade Maw, when you throw the charged crystals at Cthulhu, is the damage you do based on gear, or is it the same no matter what?

Example: does a soldier guard do as much damage to the Jade Maw (not the tentacles or the mobs) with the crystals as a full zerk guard?

Im pretty sure it doesnt matter, there is no direct hit splash that can be detected, as far as I know, therefore I presume its a percentage of hp which is decreased, next to that, the skill you’re using doesnt have a damage skill factor, making the usual calculation(power*something critdamage*magicalAnetthings*11herbsandspices*skill fact) unusable

killing tentacles also hurts the maw, but it wouldnt make any sense if it mattered in which gear you killed a tentacle, as the maw loses 1 tentacle either way.

Other than killing the tentacles/colussus faster, is zerk beneficial?

I don’t remember ever seeing numbers popping up showing damage when you throw a crystal at him, so I would venture to say it’s just a percentage of his health per crystal. Of course, that is just an assumption.

I’m 99% sure its a static amount.

I’ve played almost daily since head start and I didn’t know it until like a month or so ago.

I think it’s slightly less than a crystal but you can do them faster. I don’t even bother with crystals unless there’s one right at my feet. If you’re wearing zerk and you know how to manage blinds/evades, you can just go off and kill them on your own. in a typical pug you’ll kill a tentacle in the same time it takes the rest of the group to kill one, so you’re definitely doing more damage to the maw than they are.

Fastest way to kill maw is with a necro in the group.

Very true! I usually do this on my thief. Dagger/Pistol. Use #3 to keep it blind and burn it down so fast. In most random pugs, I can usually solo 3 in the time it takes the other 4 to take out 2.

Soldier has primary stat power, so basically soldier hits as hard as a zerk against anything that can’t be crit.

I understand that, but that wasn’t really my question. I was simply wondering if the crystals dealt a static amount of damage to the Jade Maw.
