So have neglected most instanced PvE content and was wondering if the majority of PuG groups “check” your gear before inviting you. If yes, how do they know what your gear is like?

I came from a game with lots of elitist that did this and in curious if Gw2 is the same.

I personally have not encountered a gear check in a very long time. If the content isn’t either raid or fractal 50+, then gear isn’t do or die anyway. Everything is fairly easy regardless of gear up to that point. If a party wants a gear check on any old dungeon or a level 20 fractal – you say “it’s not that serious bro” and leave for a better party.

I can’t say that I’ve ever run into a situation where I was asked a gearcheck, and I regularly do fractals in the 75+ range and raids. To check your gear they’ll just ask you to shift-click your gear and post it on chat, but that check can kinda be cheated since you can just link chat codes and virtually post any gear. Otherwise, in Fractals, they’ll just have you run into the agony orb in the staging area to see if your AR is up to par.

If a group is devastatingly serious they’ll ask you to link your character using a tool like GW2Efficiency where they can see you gear, build, inventory, etc. Though, this is extremely overkill in a PUG and is generally only seen when joining a guild/static group.

But no, the majority of PUG’s do not do checks of any sort.

A couple raid groups want gear checks, though if you’re going into raids, bringing ascended trinkets and weapons too (in general) is a personal recommendation I’d make. If they really insist on ascended armour, it’s fine to head out and find a different group, if a couple percent is what the group is demanding to get through bosses, they probably aren’t comfortable with encounter mechanics and are just rolling rng on whether or not people make few enough mistakes to get through.
