Learning to Melee Lupi
Well, you won’t like the answer. Solo is the answer, you’ll get it down phase by phase and only enter the next one when you’re ready.
What class are you?
What special things do you bring for the melee?
Example: Guards need energy sigils on both weapons to get the extra dodge.
What build you run?
Chuck The Stampede – Engineer
[Lg] Agatha – Dragonbrand
Guardian has vigor, i do lupicus without any energy sigils. They help quite a lot if you wasted a dodge, though.

I have trouble if I don’t use both. Wait, we talking in a group or solo? Group melee I don’t need em, but solo I may be too nooby to do it without

Welp….. I have a lot of practice to do….

I run mesmer, 0/30/0/30/10. Ruby orbs and and still only exotics, except an ascended pistol. Usually run s/f and s/p, but I’ve been playing around with offhand sword.
Soloing is ok, which path do you think is easiest to solo up to lupi? I was thinking path 2.
path 2 is easiest to solo by far, all the bosses except lupi can be glitched and akitten if you are having trouble
Yea path 2 is probably the best (but I still don’t know how to glitch abomination though). But sometimes I also do p3 as a mesmer.
Offhand sword might be a better choice since lupi might move more erratically with duelist. Personally I only made it to 20% atm and still training for it (working on my reflexes on phase 3 rapid fire). Other veterans probably have better advise though.
I was also thinking of taking offhand sword for the block, which seems a lot more useful then the daze on pistol.
For utilities I was thinking blink, feedback, and mantra of concentration. One mesmer I ran with earlier today was running with was also running the mantra heal and traiting mantras, I’m wondering if that might be more worth it over ether feast.
you want 3 mantras + feedback for lupi so you can cut off as much hp when it does the phase 2 aoe. build should probably be 10/30/0/20/10 to maximise %damage modifiers.
scholar runes are also the best because of 6 rune bonus, but if you aren’t comfortable with maintaining the 90% use ranger runes (6 bonus is bugged and always applies).
just stating my advice based on watching other solos/what I know about mesmer, I don’t actually have experience soloing lupi because I suck at this game
The block is pretty useful for attacks like p1 kicks, though most of lupi attacks register multiple hits.
Veterans use 3 mantras to capitalize on Empowering Mantras for speedkills. But I was also wondering about using Mantra of Recovery in place of Ether Feast as well.
The ruby orbs were more because I’m cheap, rather then optimization, but I’m saving up for scholar. I think I have an irrational fear of not slotting blink, but I’ll play around with it. Quick question, is feedback long enough for lupi’s entire barrage when untraited?
Yes for the feedback question.
Dub you should make it clear that no energy sigils on guardian is only for very solid 5 man teams or record push solos.
Yeah if you dare to do Lupi with any extra survivability you’ll just get made fun of by Dub
you guys should have seen my PVT warrior solo attempt.
just posting this question here so i dont have to make a new topic:
In phase 1 is there a way to minimize the amount of swarms that spawn. They usually f me up during phase 1 and in the beginning of phase 2.
Well, it’s abit exploitish… hm.
Does it have anything to do with a wall?
i know theres something about that for p3
I learned to melee from watching Wethospu’s solo vid.
Let it go Broadicea. They’ve been Arah for too long so sometimes they forgot what they were when they just started. As a matter of fact couple days ago, I was in Arah w/ my warrior and I had no sigil of energy at all. Sword w/ accuracy & GS w/ undead. Way into p2, I realized that I forgot to switch it and that’s how I died right after my realization.
OP: If you can find someone to duo w/ you, it will cut a lot of time to learn what to response during phase to phase. You will learn the same way by soloing but it would take much longer to learn.

yep, path 2. the running segements can all be done easily with stealth, though swiftness/stab mantra/blink is also an option.
Belka max range of GS is outside of all his attacks, hide behind the towers when he’s in the center if you want to play it super safe.
Berserker abomination. I normally farm up about 15 rifles, but that’s mostly because I’m paranoid. just keep moving in a circle to get behind him to avoid the auto attack, and with some practice you’ll be able to lure the attack on you away from your phantasms so they can get several hits in. use sword 2 or 4 during the leap to help keep the DPS up (be careful if you’re using mantra’s here, the healing mantra isn’t overwritten by the sword skills like the others are, make sure to dodge if your charging it) and use the stability mantra when he goes berserk to avoid the knockback while your picking up a rifle.
For the gates, you can focus pull the two abominations apart so you fight them one on one (use the same circle around tactics as from the last boss). if you do both at the same time use focus pull and magic bullet to CC them when they get out of sync and blurred frenzy and signet of midnight to get through the attacks when they’re hitting together.
As for lupi, yes an untraited feedback is long enough for it. Also if your going for melee, I’d suggest sigil of energy in your main hand sword to help keep your endurance up (like guard, we can get vigor on crits, but like was said above, the extra dodges help if you miss-time which is very possible when learning).
I feel there’s nothing wrong with ether feast/blink/feedback/mantra of conc. The larger heal from ether will allow for more mistakes to be made, and blink can help you save dodges during the AoE life steal during phase 3 (or act as a backup to the bubble). Once you get more comfortable with his attacks is when you can start swapping in mantras for more offense.
If you’re on EU then i can duo with you for a while since I’m bored a lot with nothing to do. Tell you the animations, skills, what do dodge and how, etc
Of course all this will cost you like 100g/hour but hey, better than pugs right?
Just PM me in game <3
Dub you should make it clear that no energy sigils on guardian is only for very solid 5 man teams or record push solos.
There’s just no space for wasting dodges.
@Broadicea: I was just pointing out that the energy sigil on your GS was basically inactice the whole fight.
1… 100gold/hr! Wow o.O
1… 100gold/hr! Wow o.O
40g/hour here, with much better explanations and a guarantee that you get phase 1 done in a day.
Amicable Pugs is 2nd best rabid warrior, I’d go with his service!
I’m #1 best.
Brazil saw me do my #1 rabid solo! Though I think he was afk until I killed him

For melee’ing, just keep moving around from one side to the other, in like a mini oval in front of him. As you do this, keep attacking him. Your cleave will kill the locusts as you are hitting him. The constant movement will keep the locust from being able to attack you.
Your circle movement doesn’t have to be ridiculous, just keep moving as you attack him, and cleave the locust down at the same time.

I have yet to see any solo of you
You don’t NEED energy sigils for solo Lupi, although you have to time your dodges pretty well to pull it off. It basically means you have to go through everything in a single dodge, which can screw you over sometimes. For example:
1) In phase 1, if you misread a grub as a kick, you have to dodge again immediately to avoid the grub summon. Then you have no endurance if he kicks immediately after.
2) In phase 2, you have to avoid his AOE with a single dodge. If you double dodge and he swipes immediately after, you’ll have no endurance.
3) In phase 3, if you overdodge any move you risk being instagibbed by the next attack.
Of course it’s not 100% (you can always use stuff like Shelter, focus block, Renewed, etc. to save yourself or you might just get lucky and regen endurance in time) but why take the risk? You only need one energy sigil anyway so at worst you lose 5% damage.
Ok seriously, stop saying that guys. Anyone who is trying to learn should NOT be learning without energy sigils. The only people who should be running without energy sigils are the ones who are well aware that they are not a necessity. It is serving of no benefit aside from an attempt to display your knowledge or just to brag. When learning to melee lupi you should be taking every precaution available, it will take you weeks to learn and probably a couple days just to be able to consistently pass phase 1 and there is no reason to gimmp yourself.
Again I will repeat, anyone who can benefit from not using energy sigils in their runs knows quite well that they are not a necessity. So stahp.
Amicable is dub’s stooge, he made the 100g gambit himself to make the 40g “lesson” look cheaper. :p
+1ed.
There’s nothing wrong with running more a conservative setup while you’re still learning. Never getting past phase 1 is discouraging.
Gotta crawl before you can walk.
Yeah for me when starting out, it’s about placing myself in the situation as long as possible so that I can pick up the feel and rhythm of battling him. Energy sigils will help stay in those situations longer and especially so for lupi’s 3 separate phases. Took me bout 3 weeks to solo lupi successfully and I shutter to think how long it will take without
However to get better, those energy sigils eventually gotta go.
Hi, i’m trying to learn as a warrior. Do you recommened a sword or shield for offhand? Do I need energy sigils on both sets? I have Balanced Stance, Endure Pain and Stamina signet.

yeah ive been trying it out i guess i just needed some practice, although before i was doing huge circles around him to kill the swarms. I remember reading somewhere on this thread someone said that you really want to have as few swarms to spawn to get through p1 faster and i wanted to know if there was any thing you can do to get less to spawn.
Anyways i did go around in smaller circles and guess what!!! i got past p1 quite easily and p2 as well but then i f’d up when lupi was at 5%… but not a bad start
Thanks alot

Sword offhand helps much more once you got used to it. It’s block isn’t instantly activating and a double tap ends it but it’s on a really short cooldown.
One Energy sigil is definitely enough on warrior since you have fast hands, making the second one on gs completely useless. Myself i’m using Undead Slaying on GS and axe, Energy on Sword.
For phase 1: offensive utility helps there way more in my opinion. Without fury and 3 might less (fgj) locusts tend to overrun you if you don’t 100b timed well. Banner of Disc, FGJ and one defensive Utility (Dolyak usually) is what i see as easiest. I kicked Endure Pain after my first successful attempt because i never used it there. Signet of Stamina may help, though. If you like having the extra endurance you should probably run fgj, dolyak, stamina.
