And no, the weapons are not NEEDED to progress, they make it easier sure, but they are in no way needed.

I dream of a world where you get a small sum of dragonite ore from completing a dungeon path or fractal. I wouldn’t mind that. But as a person who spends a large amount of time in WvW (where keeps give a miserly amount of dragonite ore) and dungeons (where no dragonite ore exists), I find it insulting that of the large amount of time and effort I put into the game and its various modes, I so happen to play the wrong ones, as decided by Anet, when it comes to progressing gear.
This isn’t new … people had to farm badges in WvW for legendary before achievement rewards came out. NEXT!
I agree with this! World events right now are in an awkward place where you can’t fully afk them, but they’re way too boring to give your full attention to. With the increase of boss HP, it’s pretty unbearable for me. I really don’t want to grind dragonite ore from world events. I hope they add new places to obtain it.

Legendaries were purely aesthetic. Ascended weapons are the highest tier of stats available.
Indeed, requiring players to farm temple events in order to make ascended weapons is bloody annoying. Let’s come up with some solutions that can be summarily ignored.
Solution #1: make the mats tradeable. I know some players who complain that they have too much dragonite ore and not enough empyreal fragments. I have too many empyreal fragments and not enough dragonite ore. It would be great if we could help each other out!
Solution #2: Mystic forge recipe to convert empyreal shards to dragonite and vice versa. Something like 5 empyreal stars, 5 mystic coins, 5 piles of crystalline dust and 5 philosopher’s stones to produce 1-5 dragonite ingots.
Solution #3: The fractal fortnight meta achievement had a dragonite ingot as a reward. Problem is it can only be done once. Make some repeatable achievements with this sort of reward, could be multiple ones for different gameplay areas.
Dungeons for empyral stuff, fractals for dragonite stuff. As with every and any design decision in this game it is impossible to grasp for me how this was not implemented.
Ive been deleting dust and empyreal things for months(? Since shortly after their release) now and could barely make 2 ascended weapons.
While we are at it, lets yell at guild mission exclusive ascended trinkets as well.
It’s possibly because arena net wants to force you out of dungeons and into their beloved open world that they just keep relentlessly pushing.

Well too bad! Casual players love open world and living story events. And casuals spend money on gems. What kind of money? Not gold from dungeons, oh lordy no. Real life money. >:(
Let us kill off the dungeon culture these filthy cretins have gotten into and push these people into the casual lifestyle, one crappy mechanic at a time! Mu ha ha ha ha ha

I yelled at my 33 dragonite ores resting in my bank for a good 5 minutes. Nothing happened. I’m now heading to Mark II…

Why’d you do any world bosses other than temples for ore though. They give the most and their chains are least mind-numbing.
At the very least Grenth can be a funny dps test when the mob upscales the priest event into oblivion and then proceeds to wipe. And I kinda enjoy Dwayna bosses but maybe that’s personal.
Dwayna is fun until you get a large enough mob that you dont need to dodge anymore. Melandru doesnt scale properly which in a way is good because its boring with a zerg. Mark 2 golem is always worth doing for extra dragonite on multiple chars. But the problem is finding these events with few people and them having set timers. That and they are mind numbingly kitten when doing them in a zerg.
Personally, I think that they should have made it so that Dragonite Ingots (and the Bloodstone/Empyreal equivalents) are not bound, while the Ore/Dust/Fragments remain account bound.
This would allow players the option of either playing all aspects of the game or buying the materials that drop from sources they don’t enjoy. This would also make crafting above 400 somewhat valuable to the economy instead of locking everything to the crafter’s account.

I had more precursors drop than ascended weapon chests since September.
I have to agree i’m up to my eyeballs in bloodstone dust and ephemeral fragments but I’m always scrounging for dragonite ore

There are no guild commendation only ascended trinkets it takes 12 commendations for just the accessory slot trinket which you can also buy with laurels plus 50 echos so please get your facts straight, thanks

I ran CoE1,2,3….oh I did it again the next day, oh I did it again the next day.
I captured a keep, oh we captured another one, oh and another….
There isn’t anything in this game that isn’t repetitive.
I think we can all agree at this point that it isn’t a true “play how you want” game, unless of course you play a kittenty build, then of course, it’s play how you want. Seriously though, anet wants people to get involved in all aspects of the game and this is the way they have chosen to do so. I don’t see it changing anytime soon, especially if you are posting this in the dungeon forums. Who at anet is even going to see it?
Standing in front of an animated structure occasionally pressing 1 is not an activity that should be the primary method to obtain account bound mats for endgame+ gear, IMO, and I think that’s the point.
The only problem is that they decided to give ascended gear better stats than exotoc gear. And that ascended gear is only obtainable via endless amount of grinding, not with something that requires skill and justifies the name “ascended”

40 or 45 laurels per piece are prohibitively high, they might as well not have implemented it at that price. Silly me, thinking I can use multiple characters.

Yes I meant just bosses. And to add some interesting fact, Grenth who is legendary mob has champion level of hp (~630,000).

Notice that mob’s do not always are what they seem to be, as locust swarms count as veterans for the title and have veteran’s HP, but use the elite silver circle.
This is a breach to the play-the-way-you-want phylosophy, therefore its necessity is bad.

Get your lazy kitten to work if you want something in game. I have made 5 ascended weapons and still have 5 stacks or dra ore and empyreal. If you can’t stand to do a simple event and even they add new way of acquiring Im sure you still have complaints… as of now events are enough to acquire these things.

Sounds good to me. Already at 4 ore stacks from leeching. This is what it must feel like for those open world event farmers when they stray into a dungeon. It feels glorious.

That’s not really the point I was making. It’s that world events are mind numbing and boring. I don’t want to do them anymore. I’ve already made 4 ascended weapons and the grind for that was pretty unbearable. I want to be able to obtain ascended weapons from something skill based.

Been there, done that, though honestly, we were 4. Anyway what I found most interesting is, that somewhere along the scaling, the Melandru priest loses the most interesting mechanic of the fight.
I think it happens somewhere around 8-10 players. Lower than that he will periodically transmute all players into little drakes and whatnot and you have to kill a few adds while he starts healing himself like there’s no tomorrow.
Why would he lose that ability if more players are present? Did someone consider the “coordination” required to adjust to the event to be to difficult?
As far as I know the hylek boss in the Caledon Forest never loses his ability to transmute player characters, no matter how many players are present for the scaling. Maybe the difference is, that the transmute of the hylek can be dodged and thus avoided, but somehow I doubt that.
The only reason I can thnk of are technical difficulties with a large scale transmute thingy putting a lot of stress on the server or somesuch. Still strikes me as odd.
Anyway: The Melandru priest would take much longer in a big fight if he retained his small scale ability, I guess.
you may keep them to rear new and interesting variants in your basement.
Melandru use to transmute even when solo or in a zerg afaik. But they may have disabled it in the last patch due to the diving goggle exploit? Or its a new bug? Dont know for sure but I havent had him transmute anyone for the last 3 melandru’s ive done in small groups.

1) Easy doesn’t mean fun. And even if they are easy, the amount of repitition of boring things you have to endure to get enough dragonite is very high.
2) Compared to the other ascended materials, no there are not. World bosses/WvW are the only means of acquiring dragonite, while empyreal fragments can be found in:
- Any chest in the open world, including jumping puzzle and mini-dungeon chests (see below)
- Guild missions
- Dungeon explorable paths (20 for first and second completion per day, then diminishing returns)
- Fractals of the Mists daily chest
- Volcanic Fractal – Magnificent Chest spawned by saving all the captives in the champion shaman fight (7-9)
- WvW
Bloodstone dust is found on every champion in the game.
3) No, we don’t “have” to get ascended equipment, just like we don’t “have” to play this game. But anything below optimal is subpar and all we want is more ways to acquire dragonite which we will enjoy doing instead of grinding the same boring thing over and over again.
