what exactly is a “support” guardian? Everytime Ive played with one of these support guards before, all they seem to be doing is supporting themselves. Aka stand in the back with a tennis racket auto attack and afk. Is every guard that ive met that wants to use support style just a baddie? or is this how it is supposed to be? Personally I think any guard that isnt speced for tanking is a baddie.
I play Support Guardian and it involves a lot more than that but since a lot of it is all shouts and channeling along with Traits (such as passive buffs being extended to all allies in range) … it has the distinct appearance of not being as active unless it’s brown-pants time and you had to pop the elite Tome of Healspam. And since that’s the only time you can wet-nurse hurt players back to full health, the rest of the time you have to rely on much more subtle things like Protection & Regen.
It’s not our job to be in the Front line either.. we sacrifice way too much potential Vitality to get our +Heal Stats …. which often have the sometimes unwanted side effect of being attached to gear with a high +Toughness rating that makes us more prone to taking Aggro off the Shield guardian if we get too close to certain mobs.
I can’t possibly take all of the mystery out of it. All I can really boil it down to, is if your front line and midline are actively avoiding damage but you’re still not regaining health or getting speed buffs & stability when you need it…. THEN you can assume that your Support guardian is actually just an inferior Berserker geared Ele in disguise.
.
Fortunately, this game allows players to ping their Gear so you can just ask them to prove that they’re Spec’d for it.

lvl 80 warrior looking for twilight arbor group! plz pm scoptican.2963
All content should be easy enough to need any special team-combo.
Why would you go for that comp setup when 2x guardian, and either 3x warrior or 2x warrior and 1x light class is pretty much the fastest comp for speed running..

Some people don’t grasp that. They’re still stuck in WoW or the holy trinity of tank, deeps, and Healz. as long as you know your combos, and class any combo can run dungeons.

more like some people realize that and they also realize that at the end of a day a team with a guardian usually does better than one without.
My guild has been running arah for a while now. back when most of us were getting our dungeon master titles my guild leader would die quite often at lupicus. He was certainly a skilled player, but he would simply go down, and then die before anyone could even get to him. He changes to guardian and now he never goes down until phase 3 (and only then because he’s literally holding aggro 24/7 and we have ample time to get him back up safely) Our failure rate on lupicus dropped from about 50% to 0% the moment we added a guardian to our teamcomp. Simply because of how lupicus aggro works, and how much easier a guardian can tank than basically every other class.
If you watch speedruns of dungeons youll note about 90% of teamcomps are based around guardian/warrior/thief setups with an optional 1 mesmer or 1 elementalist. Mesmer for timewarp, ele for versatility with reflects, combo fields, heals, and status conditions such as cripple/freeze/swiftness all on 1 weapon.
in short
Guardians
needed? No.
Better than pretty much any other class when you need to fill a slot? Yes.

Everything this person said is fact. Tank guardian is really the only guardian worth having. Now if you have 2 guardians, one spec for tank, one spec for slight dps and mostly support and then you can just faceroll your way through every dungeon in the game. Thats how we do it and we do Arah all paths fairly quickly.
Two classes I would never dungeon without (in an ideal situation or if I were to make a permanent group) would be a Guardian and Mesmer.
Guardian for tanky goodness and Mesmer because they have possibly the highest range of support utility and group utility in the game. Damage reduction to entire group, more than 1 reflection skill (including AoE), several ways to remove conditions (including AoE), and group quickness.
Plus they also do fantastic damage when specced for shattering.

Lol, to be honest when I looked at that list I didn’t even notice engineer was missing. Rofl.

Nah, they just aren’t using the class right. I pretty much carry all of my groups in ac exp but let alone the negligible ressing I need when focused fired on time to time, but the build we suggest for most guardians should be beneficial for themselves and allies. I always ensure allies have virtues when needed and any boons I can give them when cd is done. Anyways, in regards to @OP, I’m down to run AC anyday after 8pm est.
All berserker gear, 13khp, 3066 attack, 2600 toughness, 46% crit chance, 91 crit dmg, use sigil of strength for gs, and use sword & shield, and 6 rune of lyssa.
I’m up for AC and COF only because that’s the only two I know. Any others I’d have to run with guildmates first to get the feel of it and know more about it before I join.

It’s ok… engineers rarely get any love, but are all sorts of useful.
