Lupicus bubble attack...
Stand at around max melee range and don’t move excessively, he won’t use it on you. I saw max melee range because it’s a nice indicator of you not being too close, yet not too far away. If you’re too close you’ll just push him and get people bubbled anyway.
Not sure what you’re meaning by max melee range… I don’t get targeted often by Lupicus in phase 3, he’s usually on someone else. I’m often running behind him, trying to stay within melee range. It’s just that sometimes he suddenly turns around and decides to bubble me.
Infiltrator strike/shadow return combo on sword main hand can get you out, but it means using a subpar weapon for single target damage.
You almost certainly have to use sword main hand for your sanity and survivability if you are fighting lupi in melee in a group that ranges him (like the typical pug). Keeping a rotation of infiltrator strike / shadow return also gives you a nice way of getting out of the AoE lifesteal.
Sorry, I didn’t even consider that you might be running in PUGs where people lead Lupi around the room, that makes staying in melee range a lot more difficult :P Max melee range is generally referred to as “standing as far away as you can, while still hitting in melee”, but you’ll have difficulty consistently melee’ing with PUGs anyway :\
Yeah, I only PUG, and people seem to stay always at range. I want to go melee on him, but I guess it’d be important if I knew how to survive when he decides to target me while I’m in melee range of him.

Ah, I see. I suppose that would be my best option then. I had been using d/d, but that won’t cut it.
You can still melee him if people are ranging, it’s just a little more annoying.
Try you best to stand in max melee range and only move when you need to to get back in range of him. He’ll mostly only use it on moving targets, and as I was pointed out today (by Cookie), range is also a factor.

If you go directly backwards with Roll for Initiative and use it the second he starts casting the bubble, you’ll be able to avoid it. Dagger Storm also gives you Stability, so that should work for getting you out of the bubble too.

Question: would Steal get you out? iirc there’s a bit of distance between Lupi & the bubble, so if steal doesn’t get blocked you could use it as an escape.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

You should save steal to get underneath him after he raises in the air.

Oh, does that prevent him from hitting you? Didn’t know that.

No, it does hit you if the red circle is still there. But once the circle is gone and he starts to drop, you should Steal back to him and keep up the standing still underneath him.

Thanks for all the tips. Looking forward to fight him again today.
Use steal to get out You have ample time to get back to lupicus once the big aoe leach red circles diseapears anyway
Especially if you are using daggers or shortbow.
And if I remember right #5 shortbow can also get you out of the cage

That sounds a bit suicidal to me. If you are inside his red circle and he isn’t at a wall or attempts to move away from you, he will use single target projectiles.
And those single target projectiles actually don’t have a minimum range but some kind of a grey zone from ~90 to ~350 units away from him. Stealing inside him and not moving out will result in lupicus splahing his projectiles exactly in your face.

The BIIIIIIIIGGGGG red circle, not the little one. The one where he jumps in the air like a diva.

This is what i was refering to.

I completely missed that somehow. I stand a bit outside of his red circle when I’m standing underneath him. I don’t ever try and stand directly in it.

Lupicus targets people who try to escape melee range withthe bubble. Don’t turn and run! When you see a bubble coming at you, try to roll under his legs.
You will still get trapped since the bubble spawns exactly on you, even in a dodgeroll (if you aren’t exactly in him or out of 600 range).
Also, he doesn’t care if you are moving away or towards him. It’s based on your range to him and if you’re moving or not in general.

If you are still in range of the bubble then he will spin and put it on you if you go behind him.

If you’re solo on phase 3 and you dodge the aoe life drain but you know you’re not getting back in melee range in time, is it better to stand still and let him come to you, or will he walk over and bubble?

I always go to him.

Yeah of course that’s ideal, but like, if you took a second too long to start heading back in or something. I mean I usually try to swap to GS and whirlwind+dodge away to get outside the AoE, is Rush the best bet in that case to get back to him quickly?
You can rush back in, or if you have swiftness just waddling back to him works. If you’re low on endurance you can use Eviscerate (small gap close+endurance return), and shield bash works as well if you use that. Worst case scenario is that you have to pop stab and dodge roll if you see him about to bubble you, its not usually too big of a deal.
If you know you’re not making it back in time, you just wish for the best and use whatever resources you have available, there’s not always much you can do if you don’t have stability or block.

If his aftercast is already over and you’re still out of “safety range” you better pedal a few crumble steps backwards until he closes up. Be ready to dodge single-target projectiles, though.

Lol that lupi is nasty!

This never works for me. If I don’t have a teleport or a leap of some kind ready I run to him, he turns (even if he was targetting someone else), stares at me for one second and then bubbles. Doesn’t matter if I stand still and immobile when I’m in melee range, he still gets me. Last time I tried not to attack for a second in case I was too close (thought that maybe the problem was me “pushing” lupi with my attacks), he still targeted me and bubbled, just with 2-3 seconds of delay. What to do? Other than ranging while he’s hammering someone else.
B.t.w. seems like he loves my mesmer.
Honestly the answer is that you’re just standing too far away/moving. ‘Max melee range’ is in fact a little bit too far away, you need to find the sweet spot that’s not too close yet not too far. I tend to just maintain a good 2-3 step gap between myself and his circle.

I would say there’s a really good chance that you will get a bubble. If you know you can’t handle a bubble then you definitely shouldn’t move closer.
Actually you can just run away from him, get out of combat regeneration and then survive the bubble.
