Lvl 80 Axes : Rare: 483; Exotic: 4 – Frostfang: 0
Lvl 80 Swords : Rare: 20; Exotic: 0 – Zap: 0
Went in today, 2 Guardians, 2 Warriors and an Elementalist. Both Guards spec’d for support, both warriors in toughness armor with full exotics and not sure on ele build. We were using potions, foods, banners and even runes for extra 10% dmg.
The bomb room is impossible. We tried for over an hour with every method we could think of.
Couple of people staying out whilst 3 kite, then coming in on rotation as people die – no joy everyone dies.
1 at a time kiting on rotation (we got to 87% here but never any further).
Everyone in at once trying to kill the mobs (snowball’s chance in hell).
And now to make it worse the call target system is not working (I saw it on my screen when I called a target, no-one else did and I confirmed this on my fiancĂ©e’s screen right next to me).
And to make it even worse, Fire Imps spawn and aggro Maggs no matter how many people you have in the room.
So this path is now impossible to complete as far as I can see – has anyone actually managed it since the patch and if so, what tactics did you use.
I get more frustrated with this game every day now and I am about >< close to just leaving, which would be a shame for ANet because I am a substantial gem buyer.
tbh i see no reason why you are unable to clear it, i’ve been able to do it with pug groups on first try. you shouldn’t try to kill them or let 3 kite and the rest afk. just all 5 go in make sure someone doesnt have all on him. try to divide the mobs as much as possible and when you die instant respawn and run back. try to use as much CC as possible, if you are organized you can save up CC for when someone dies so you can buy some time to get him back in. for the rest just run and dodge roll as much as possible, just look what mobs are hitting you and look at the animation going off.
Makes no difference we tried that method too, the Fire Imps still aggro’d Maggs with everyone in the room – no way for us to stop Maggs from dying with those Fire Imps hitting him.
Did it 3 times so far, after new patch – running around in circles in pairs seems to be best tactic (ofc with CCin, dodging etc). For 70% progress, just everyone goes in.
What’s helpfull, but not necesarry, for last 30%:
- thief throwing stealth on Magg
- necro with Plague (elite skill), spaming aoe blind on almoust every mob
Lol, I love this game. I completed this with a pug group. Instances now in GW2 has resorted to chain dying and kiting for a given amount of time… classic. I’m so glad ANET fixed things. Oh yeah you can jump through a crack and finish the final fight without doing anything… I’m glad they fixed everything.
Oh btw thanks for the 30 tokens instead of 60.
i have cleared it with PuG’s loads of times over the past couple days, you just need to strategise right. with the kite room, i usually organise it so that there’s 2 teams of 2 players, and if there’s a guardian or war available, they stand alone as a time-buyer when needed. the players from team 1, are assigned a buddy from team 2 who replaces them as soon as they are downed. when both players of team 2 are out, the guardian runs in and tanks. by this point team 1 should be just about ready to go for the second round. towards the end, as it gets closer, forget the order so much and just try to make sure there’s allways a few people in there. sometimes we get it in one shot, sometimes it takes 5-10 attempts… but in the end it never fails. i’ve even done it recently with 2 medium armoured guys and 3 light armoured ones in the party. PuG and all. as long as everyone knows the plan thoroughly. as for the bombs, go for the upper level and distant ones first and it’s pretty straight forward. get them all back.. if you’re unsure, scope out the area first before talking to magg and beginning the event. the bomb section is one of the easiest parts. Maggs run really isn’t too hard… pathway 1 & 3 on the otherhand are PuG unfriendly, they made those runs to exclude everyone except for the fortunate folks who have constant dungeon running guilds and friends who play.

I have no problem with any other part of the run but if the Fire Imps are aggroing Maggs as soon as they spawn and there is no way to pull them off, there is no way to stop Maggs dying. As for pugging, we were fine until there were like 20 mobs in the room – seems the longer the timer goes the more mobs spawn, we couldn’t see players for mobs at one point – it is ridiculous.
You know two support guardians and two warriors severely limits your dps right? You’re never going to clear anything fast enough.
Did magg room already 3 times after Patch, including 1 today. Usually do it at the 1st attempt, sometimes 2nd.
With people we manage to clear from 1 up to 3 waves.. then just start running around cause we can’t kill mobs fast enough. But still manage to survive long enough with max 2 deaths per character.
And about fire imps… never had problem with them focusing Magg.

A group in full blues, aka <10 silver in armor, weapon, trinkets can cheese-kite Magg.
If you can’t do it, you’re just bad at execution.
It’s not really a hard strategy.
Send one. He’s about to die? Send another. Let him respawn and run back.
Rinse and repeat.
You should be done in <10 deaths unless your party is really bad at kiting, dodge rolling, or has kitteny glass cannon utility skills.
i’ve done it multiple times since the patch and i wont say its super easy but i’ve never failed to the point the group has disbanded either. Get the suicide chain down and youll get this event no problem. I’ve seen it done as 1 in at a time and i’ve seen it done with groups going in 2 at a time and kiting the mobs. its definitely doable! switch up your skills. use stuns or anything else that will slow them down, use and sort of shields etc that you might have and just try to stay alive. a little bit of organization and youll do it no problem
Very doable. See.
