Q:

I just geared my tempest as a healer for this fight. My idea is that the sustained healing from the staff tempest auramancer healing build should keep everyone mostly full health all the time and hence would reduce the “bad luck”. Also, I read that many group are using a tempest healer for this fight.

But I’m brand new to it so I have a few question

1. Our group setup will probably be tempest + druid healer. Which healer should do what? Which one should escort the players dropping poison to make sure the don’t die? And which one should focus on the rest of the group?

2. Is it necessary to run with action camera? It’s really useful to ground target your auto attack but if you focus on the group staying around matthias do you still need it?

Thanks

I have yet to fight Matthias yet (about to), but just from my knowledge of both professions, I would think the Tempest should do the escorting, while the druid keeps the party up and going. This is because Druids need a target and a sizable group of people to keep their healing going strong. Tempests, on the other hand, can heal target-less, and have more long-duration healing. So even when the Tempest leaves, their healing is still in effect.

I actually think the druid should be the escort because it is much better at healing players from distance. Staff Ele’s only long range heals are Healing Rain and Geyser, but those have long cooldowns and are the best heals on a staff ele, so it feels like a waste to use them on a single person. Druid has multiple low CD ranged heal skills between staff and astral form, and also has a leap on staff that allows them to get in range of the person they’re escorting if they need to emergency heal or res. Ele has no mobility unless you bring lightning flash, but that has double the cd and 3/4 the range of druid’s leap, and takes up a utility slot that could be a heal.

Staff Ele healer is best staying with the group and dropping huge aoe heals on the stack.

As far as action camera goes, I don’t see why it would ever be necessary to use it. I don’t use it on any character I play at all, and I certainly wouldn’t think of using it on a staff ele.

Druid should stay in melee to keep Spotter/other buffs on the people who need them. The Elementalist healer can escort.

I myself play staff ele for Matthias and it works quite well.

The whole reason to use the action camera (have it on an easy to toggle key, sometimes aiming is annoying with it on) is the fact that you can aim your auto attack at the ground of someone who needs heals. The attack will hit the ground and even though it does not hit an enemy it will still heal those around the location it landed at. This is the one build where the action camera is a must to use it to its fullest imo.

Edit: And while using the action camera, you actually have a targeted heal that is not AoE based around you.

I guess this makes sense, but if you’re using an ele healer at all you’re already committing to sacrifice DPS for better healing. I guess you lose spotter when the druid leaves, but the druid can also escort and come back to the stack way way faster than an ele can, which seems to go better with the idea of playing defensively. I haven’t played with an ele healer in that fight since the first week of salvation pass so I’m not going to pretend I definitively know the best way to do it, but it made sense to me to sacrifice DPS for more effective healing since the presence of an ele healer implies that you want to do that anyway.

This makes perfect sense, I didn’t realize this because I never play with action cam lol. Thanks for the info!

I’ve found healer ele to be great on Matthias. Just make sure the druid is in the (or one of the) main subgroups, while you’re in a group by yourself. That way the druid buffs are always on a DPSer, and never accidentally on you or the chrono.

As for who does what, I think the druid should take care of people in the distance. You should already have some over time heals from regen, water overload, and soothing mist, so even if you don’t specifically watch out for people running to the edges, you can help them get there.

I never bothered with action cam. I guess it could help aim your 1 projectile if you aren’t targeting an enemy, but it shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

There is no need to use the action cam. Just zoom out and look to the ground (cam face down) will do the same thing.

Both can stay on(near) group, druid uses CA 1/2/3 to heal at range if needed.
Ele could also drop geyser on them if the druids CA isn’t ready.

I’d recommend the Soothing Mist trait over auramancer. SM ticks for like 1k+ and can be maintained on the whole raid.

Use Geyser to heal poison carrier if needed, don’t run with them so you keep SM up.

Build is super easy to play and very strong. Just run around and make sure you tick everybody with SM.

Soothing Mist is a minor trait and you get it for free when you take Water Magic as a specialization. You can have both Soothing Mist and Powerful Aura, for instance, letting you be an Auramancer with huge aoe healing.

Timmy probably means https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Soothing_Power

Which makes sense given powerful aura doesn’t work with skills like “flash freeze”.
Or didn’t a few weeks ago. ( tried with 2 people, elemental bastion did not heal twice, aura duration was standard 4s, only 5 people (including myself) got frost aura when used with 9 others in range).

Ohhh, yes, that would make sense! I’ve always liked that trait and I could see how it would be useful!

Ele healer is great for Matthias, but IMO whether or not you use staff depends on the rest of your group setup.

I’ve found that with my group, we are more successful if I run W/E/Temp with Auramancer and D/Wh. The main reason is because that build can generate an absurd amount of protection, which the staff build does not have.

The staff build has more direct healing, but without group protection many of the “squishy” classes can be 1 shot by Matthias’ attacks. The protection helps keep them up if they miss a dodge.

If your group already has protection from another source, then the staff build is likely better.

I guess that depends on the group comp, because a DH or Herald w/ Chrono could also keep perma-protect up on the group.

Do note that Matthias’s giant orb hadouken attack ignores protection. (It does exactly half of your max hp per hit no matter what stats and buffs you have, and sometimes hits twice, resulting in insta down)
