In the new Cliffside Fractal the Archdiviner gets a defiance bar from time to time. This mechanic could be abit improved for higher level fractals; if you don’t break the bar in a time interval after it appears, the boss gets a non-removable buff. Think of the Thaumanova Anomaly: currently it has no defiance bar; from time to time during the fight it should get a defiance bar, that, if not removed in a small time interval, it gets some buffs (some stacks of might, retaliation) that can not be removed. Buffs might or might not expire after some time.

I’d prefer a party wipe aoe from archdiviner. From the thaumanova boss I’d like it to be a quicker than usual destruction of the energy plates of half the platform and in random sections of 1-4, but that might be more readily punishing, so 1-6 or so.

The mechanic could be extended to different and new higher fractals in the future.
A different color defiance bar could indicate a temporary bar that, if not cc-ed, would grant the boss different boons.

I mean the obvious one for thaumanova anomaly is if you don’t break the bar fast enough he removes some platforms and they don’t come back. So if you fail to break the bar too many times it’s essentially a wipe.

It seems like it would be more fun to have encounter specific things happen, rather than just giving boons and keeping the fights the same.
