aether: electric panels puzzle – pulling hologram
aether: clockheart fight – for additional hologram pushing (and eventually soloing/playing safe – clockheart in melee deals perma weakness)
aether: ooze font – for additional elemental pushing
also if your party decides at Clockheart to do the “wipe and stack” tactic, you can pull clockheart with gs. (in a way that he wont throw gear, you need to hit him and los immediately so he can’t use the skill, elementalist fireball is easier for this, because its a flying projectile, so ele can los before it hits)
I didn’t watch all the videos except the CoE P3 destroyer, but for that, it’s only for bursting with the phantasm right?
People might get the wrong idea and camp GS to max DPS.
In general, everytime you encounter a boss in the middle of a room. Fifth skill is a push and it happens pretty quickly. Of course, you can achieve similar effect with focus, but if you cannot use it for some reason, GS works nice. Examples: Subject Alpha (first encounter for every path), Slave Driver in CoF 1.
Also, if I recall correctly, second skill is unblockable. Not really a big deal, but might be useful sometimes.
Other than that, I will probably not help you much, I haven’t done the calculations or even rough DPS comparisons. But if you don’t need cleave (e.g. when just fighting bosses), GS shouldn’t be that bad.

Odd, I had clarification in parenthesis but forum code stripped it out. The GS was used to interrupt the dragon tooth summon. It will interrupt regardless of how many stacks of defiance the boss has.
Examples: Subject Alpha (first encounter for every path), Slave Driver in CoF 1.
I don’t think those two encounters justify equipping greatsword because temporal curtain should be used instead. Though in CoF1 there are those times when I place my curtain a bit too soon and it ends up timing out before slavedriver turns red. That’s when I panic and immediately equip my gs and it as a backup push. Saved my kitten more times than I’d like to admit but then again, it’s not the problem with the curtain but rather with the mesmer…
Would CoF P2 defending Magg before the boss room warrant GS? I haven’t played mesmer in dungeons for a while now, so I’m unsure how necessary being at range at this point would be. But as far as I can see you can deal enough damage to help take down the assassins and use skill 5 to defend yourself. How easy it is for mesmers to die here?
For Magg defense sword is preferred, max cleave damage to avoid getting overwhelmed with the trash.
Best I can find for that room is just sword and timing blurred frenzy on respawns. Overall I HATE that area because things die faster than I can even cast a phantasm on them most of the time… one of the many situations where I feel nearly useless on my mesmer.

Thanks for the clarification. I don’t understood the defiance and interrupt mechanic on bosses clearly.
It’s probably the wrong topic to discuss but is this a special attribute on Mesmer GS or does any other interrupt from utility/focus pull/other class skill could’ve been used in that particular situation (other than Guard should apply Aegis)?
The [Club] record run for SE p3 during the clown car looked it it was a good use of mesmer gs. He used it to push the dredge further underneath the ledge after pulling them to it with focus.

CoE opening:
You save some seconds if you lure with GS and kill with reflect anyway.
CoE Freaks and asura risens… you hit way more with izerker

Fotm:
Volcanic fractal Lava shaman.
Unless your party goes full melee (quite rare to see in pug runs):
-If you melee you trigger boss attack that kills every illusion
-Shaman consider illusion a valid target for its arrows avoiding those situations where a player could un out of evades
-You can place 3 iwardens and fight behind them
-You can keep 3 illusion to shatter for distortion at phase change
-The grawl parts is mostly about aoe burst rather than sustained, izerker, iwave are quite useful for that before switching to S/F
Svanir fractal boss:
-keeping 3 iduelist alive means you will never use your 4-5 skills on another OH weapon.
But GS can be useful to destroy ice walls before they los your duelists.
-if you know how to OOC its the best weapon to kill ice elemental top.
Urban fractal
-kill sieges if you lack a staff ele
-crippling warrior with an opening burst for trash is an added bonus since you ll kill everything before a double weapon swap anyway.
-at one of the door you can actually push pull 1-2 Groups under the door itself without triggering NPC awesome suicidal AI.
Frozen maw:
Aggroing elementals from the distance is nice.
Cliffside:
Almost permacripple is useful
iwave can be useful at higher levels arm seal in the left room to defend the hammer carrier hitting the seal (unless he has his own invul utilities the few dps lost totally Worth it).
Underground fractal:
Even if you los, an iswordman/duelist will be useless against trash… a single izerker opener will do more damage (except for rabdovich).
Even at boss most Groups don t melee so you need a ranged option
Thaumanova Boss:
Spam izerker, iwarden, signet, iwarden, go on GS wait for iwarden CD spam another iwarden, sit in GS.
SE3, you can destroy wall even before starting the path.
Clown car seems izerker helps a lot and you can keep 2 alive usually but depends on your build.
SE1 Push + pull useful for tazza and the previous asura boss if you strip defiant fast (something mesmer is quite good at).
CoF2&AC1:
Izerker does lot of damage to burrows
AC2:
push pull to gather ascalonian mobs before boss if guard is not running GS (into the void helps but few won t be pulled).
those are the first i remember.
There were more before last dungeon patch.
GS is really useful in lot of other situations, maybe not as efficient, but extremely better at making stuff easier for the party (i.e. with pugs).
Also MOST pug groups won t full melee lot of things, and in that case you can t do it alone.
If you are in a dungeon guild, you’ll likely full melee more stuff, but you don t need to read this topic.
If you PUG a lot, you need a GS expecially if you don’t want to fail and open antipug threads

A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

It’s worth noting that because of the…odd nature of the piercing effect on mesmer GS, you can often do some really good cleaving to the totems on the last boss on HotW path 1.
Because GS damage is so bad, you can use GS #5 to push the golems onto the Husk in CoE p2 without killing them before they explode.
Or in fractals on Molten Furnace boss to push away the adds that make the middle thing invulnerable. (of course focus pull is like 10x better at it)
Basically GS #5 is a good push skill, but that’s all it’s useful for. Waste of weapon slot usually.

Ah k, thx! I was wondering if there would be a trick to take direclty advantage of gs skills rather than illusions rate spawn and weapon dmg for shattering it
