So after discussing a random topic in the mesmer forum, I found out that damage sigils don’t actually affect phantasms, but our might does.
Since our autoattack does pretty trashy DPS, I’m wondering, is it actually worth using damage sigils anymore? And then I thought, what about sigil of battle (since I swap between sword/X and sword/Y basically immediately when they go on cooldown, there’s practically no downside to doing this which is nice). But then, if a group walks in to a battle with 25 stacks of might, is there any point using the sigil?
Before I ramble on anymore, the conclusion I drew is that using a bloodlust sigil is fine since the phantasms take our power, but once we hit 25 stacks, what alternative could we use to boost phantasm DPS? Sigil of fire is nice in PvP and for tagging mobs in PvE open world, but it doesn’t really contribute enough, let alone reliable damage in a dungeon situation, so are we stuck boosting our pitiful autoattack DPS with night/undead/whatever slaying sigil or is there a way we can actually boost our phantasms?
I run perception, in an attempt to ensure my reflects always crit. After I’m at 25 stacks, I’ll switch to a slaying+force, to again ensure my reflects hit as hard as possible.
Idk, I just don’t run my Mesmer anywhere that doesn’t require reflects, the idea of buffing bad DPS to ‘slightly less bad’ DPS just seems less than ideal to me :S
Well I have more fun on my mes than my far-more-useful guard so I want to maximise my usefulness as much as possible :P
You could take battle on the sword and then have force/whatever on the offhands. Obviously spare offhand with bloodlust/perception. Thats what I would do if i was trying to completely optimize my mesmer.
What about sigil of strength or sigil of frailty?
I haven’t run dungeons in like a month now, so I’ll ask you guys – when you’re fighting bosses do you tend to have full might stacks and full vulnerability stacks on a boss (or at least close to full) for the entire fight or are they hard to sustain without interrupting your DPS rotations? Mesmers are only really taken along for group utility, so I wouldn’t have a problem using sigils that serves the group more than myself. Obviously I’m clutching at straws here for even mentioning these sigils, but there must be a better way to increase DPS than the usual sigils which work for every other class but not phantasm mesmers
I wouldnt use strength. Only class thakittens good on is necro because of locust swarm and fast dagger auto. Frailty could be an option. I know when pugging and not doing things perfectly vuln falls off a bit. So i guess you could have some frailty runes to help keep group damage up.
Or just go 15 in domination and spam daze/interrupts.
Accuracy is definitely better than bloodlust. In a solo setting without reflects bloodlust is just slightly better, in any setting with reflects accuracy wins.
If you’re pugging you should rather take energy for beeing able to solo some content if pugs fail instead of getting an overall (partywide) dps increase of not even 0.5% from sigil of strength. In irganized teams your damage output doesn’t matter much anyway since you’re a mesmer :p Maximize reflections, get some vuln stacks and do the usual utility stuff and you’re good to go.

how many vuln stacks does 15 in domination give per interrupt?
3-8 stacks.
3 per interrupt, additional 5 per daze. F3 = best shatter.
