Also, you need to learn more, as staff eles we are great at stopping crowds dead in their tracks and dealing extreme collective damage to them. If you’re just going to sit in fire all the time, then you deserve to be called a terribad, especially since you’re meant to repeatedly swap attunements and generate combos. Yes, fire is great for damage, but that’s it – just damage. The other attunements aren’t “50% less powerful” at all, they simply work in ways that you don’t seem (and need) to, understand.
On a side note, d/d isn’t melee. Melee range is considered to be 130, and the lowest range an ele can possibly have is 300. Besides, you don’t actually hit anything with the daggers, they’re just there to help you channel magic.

I argued about elementalists dealing the most damage in AC. Nothing wrong about that, huh? Thing is, I was talking about condition-toughness spec, which I found to deal equal damage to berserker. How could that happen? I guess, I didn’t use any % modifiers in the berserker one. We all ran 0/10/0/30/30 back then.
My first toon was an Ele, and I followed daphoenix’s 0/10/0/30/30 d/d boon-duration build … in dungeons. He was all “arcana so pro,” I thought he actually knew wtf he was talking about … I look back at that and I think to myself “how did I ever believe this guy knew what he was talking about? I was such a naive noob.”
Well, back when I was playing mace-shield/staff cleric guardian, I used to hate skipping a lot. Like, seriously. A lot.
I guess that’s excusable because it’s annoying when you’re pugging and everyone runs ahead – and dies.
I also hated major exploits like going through maps and stuff… owait, still do. I just kinda gave up on it ahahha.
I quit every party that skipped Kholer.
… So yeah, all in all I was pretty awesome.

Aswell as I edited above post, it’s pretty stupid what I’ve been saying, but hey, at least I realized ele supremacy.

I use a Hammer and Mace/Axe as my off-set. Switching to a Bow or Rifle when ranged is needed. My utility skills are Healing Signet, FGJ, SIO, OMM, and Signet of Rage. I have alot of defense and put out good damage. As for equipment, I got 3 pieces of Knight’s armor, and 3 pieces of Vaklyrie. When I get my jewelery it’ll probably set up for pure damage since I get plenty of defense already.
Plan to get a Knight’s Exotic Hammer, Knight’s Exotic Mace, and Vaklyrie’s Exotic Axe one of these days
Don’t ask if it’s good for PvP because I pretty much only PvE

Oh, now I remember. I used to run Pyroatheist’s Immortal build in dungeons. Them 2k staff phantasm hits were so stronk, I nearly crapped myself. I was such a bad mesmer, camping GS and Staff, and the worst thing is I never met anyone who told me I was bad, so I continued going down the slippery slope…. until one day I made a switch to full berserker gear and peed my pants at 5k hits. Woooow.

Good point. My sentinel ele seemed so awesome and tanky with 0/10/0/30/30. Man, I could even melee for 30 whole seconds before having to move out of range and heal.

warriors are quite sought after because of straight damage provided. my ideal group consists of 3 warriors 1 mesmer 1 water ele.
Mesmers are below average in dungeons. Eles suck for supporting compared to guardians so water is just silly.
You’re totally wrong about that. Ele’s healing support is far superior than guardians, as well as they can do from the comfort of ranged. They can also provide AoE blind spam, which given a lot of dungeon tactics currently is pretty strong. Eles can also trait to share the auras, such as Magnetic aura which is incredibly powerful in dungeons. Certain traits also share certain boons on attunement swap i.e. fury, protection. Don’t hate on support eles until you actually understand what they can do. Guardians wish they could support like Eles.

Also lilith, no shame. I don’t know much about strife either, solely some of his videos. But it seems he had huge influence on DnT’s general playstyle, being a lot more organized than our standard dungeon runs.
I used to wholeheartedly support Staff Guardians as a thing. I think there’s like a whole thread of my discussing Staff Guardian as a legitimate thing and my trying to find reasons why it was good. Then I discovered Hammer. Even further back, I used to dislike this forum because some [LOD] members really incensed me with their attitudes. I ended up calling them out in some thread I can’t remember, and got into a whole argument based on that (no hard feelings if any of them haven’t quit). No idea if that thread was deleted or not, though.
My Warrior’s first armor set was Soldier’s with Berserker trinkets. My Necromancer’s first armor set was Carrion everything (lawl). My Guardian’s first armor set was Cleric’s everything (double lawl). Nowadays everything wears Berserker everything except my Necro which runs around in Rampager for Triple Trouble and WvW and some pub dungeons because yolo.

Thankfully I was shown the error of my ways by a video I saw. I then realised I did crap damage and still died. I begged forgiveness and was officially baptised in the cleansing flames and the mighty boon was forever placed in my heart.

I feel the need to clarify one thing because this is a blatant misconception on the part of many, many people who have not actually looked at the numbers:
THE HAMMER IS THE LOWEST DPS WEAPON THE GUARDIAN HAS.
That’s right, the hammer’s DPS is even lower than the staff’s. Mighty Blow is crap damage. It takes forever to execute and barely hits above a mace auto-attack. Symbol of Protection is high damage but the hammer chain is also ludicrously slow, so your average damage is actually extremely low.
Moreover, using the hammer won’t even significantly improve your survivability, because you don’t get enough hits to proc AH heals off crits compared to GS/scepter and your healing is completely halted if you ever stop auto-attacking.
I have been playing my Thief in dungeons a lot lately myself in organized guild groups and the only time they have better DPS is when the boss is below 25% and they can go into heartseeker mode to get 40-50k damage in about 3 seconds. Below 50% the auto-attacks are comparable to an axe warrior, perhaps a bit less. Above 50% the warrior is significantly better.
I’m not anti-Thief, I just think that under perfectly ideal circumstances the DPS is similar. However, the loss of party-wide utility makes a Thief seem undesireable. If a Thief had overall strictly superior dps, I would argue for bringing one but tbh, switching one of three warriors to a thief is an overall party downgrade.
This was in reference to someone saying a thief should replace a warrior in the traditional 4w/1m CoFp1 party comp.
Oddly enough, while there were some cringeworthy posts from long ago, there were also some posts that were heretical at the time which could very easily be just as accurately said today such as…

On topic, Scholar runes clearly offer the highest potential DPS but let’s be real: the average player in this game complained about the Daily Dodger Events because dodging isn’t something they are comfortable with. I’m not sure it’s realistic for people to run out and buy Scholar Runes that being the case.
