My Trick to beating Mai Trin when pugging.
Or one could learn to solo the encounter so when everyone else drops dead you can still easily finish alone and look cool while doing it.
Whatever floats your boat I guess.
I have never found that Mai Trin and her cannon happy friend target the one with the most toughness….
whenever I find myself against them in a 40 frac in my usual team, everyone is wearing full zerk or assassins and I’m on my guardian, using zealots / clerics. I have a lot of toughness.
Mai Trin teleports to whoever is the furthest away from her, not who has the most toughness. I have no idea how the cannon guy targets..

i’d say thats, what he did.
tbh its not a effective way to drop a lot of your dmg, and killing her with same strat, but dps gear would work also, but its ok, as long as many ppl cant handle her i prefer 15min hit and run over 2min in-fail-repeats^^
I still cant confirm this “most toughness”… usuall she targets furthest player with port and then switches frequently…
About the soldier gear, did a lv 50 run and was Mai’s target during the entire time, except when someone thought to run away and heal but found out he/she was soon being chased due mai’s teleport.
Is it possible she chooses the persoon with the highest toughness/vit (my guard for example) as her main target, but whenever someone else tries to create some distance she changes her target?
When someone needed to be rezzed, I create as much distance between Mai and myself, hoping to force her to chase me, while other party-members could rezz easily.
from the wiki:
Mai Trin herself uses several attacks, including a shadow step towards the player who is farthest away from her.
and
Mai Trin will be more likely to target players that are not moving, the players farthest from her, and specially those reviving other players.
it has nothing to do with toughness in any way. the fight is all about positioning.

Will remember about the toughness, still she likes my guard everytime I have to fight her. Which is fine with me, since I use PVT gear so I can play a sort of tank and the rest of the party provides the damage.
This just works for my guildies and me..
