My dungeon experience (Awful)
I read your first two paragraphs, and I have to ask, what the kitten are you talking about?
I have yet to see anyone be denied access to a story mode mission because they didn’t know the dungeon and didn’t have “good enough gear”.
Also, lol @ CoF explore being “low level dungeon”…exploration modes aren’t meant to be your first steps into dungeons.

The problem is that you join a group that farms dungeon. These kind of people are always the worst to deal with (I know from experience).
I’ve ran plenty of dungeon PUGs with nice and cool people that don’t play the game as if it’s srs bsns but just for the fun of it.
I’d recommend to try to find a dungeon group that isn’t farming, or join a guild that does dungeons for fun and challenge.

So basically since nearly all shouts and requests are for farms I better be willing to make my own group, hang out for a long time until I find non-serious gamers, or and join a guild!
None of those sound “fun” to me. Maybe this just isn’t a game for me. Some will love it some will dislike it. Just sharing my experience. Thanks for the suggestions!

Correct, Story mode is the first step, so the majority that go on story mode will not know anything and just try their best.
Try playing a casual solo player that doesn’t have a guild. I pug, which means you have to ask to get in groups or create your own. Sometimes when you ask people they will ask you if you did it before or your experience in the dungeon. To some if you say, “It’s my first time in Explore mode!” they will reply, “Yeah… no thanks! Good luck!” That is by definition being denied.
Will everyone do that? Nope, some will invite you and assume you know then get angry that your a newbie as was my experience.
Also correct, Explore CoF, is not a low level dungeon.

I’ve pugged literally every single dungeon.
In both story mode and explore mode.
I’ve yet to see a single person EVER denied because they “didn’t have good enough gear”. Not one, single, time. I’ve actually never even seen gear mentioned besides “that looks cool”.
^ What Apathy said.
I’ve never been denied a group either, and PUG’d all dungeons I’ve done so far.
I know things like this must happen on my server but darn. You must be on a crap server dude. Wanna run through a dungeon 4 the lulz? Drop a pm Ill help fill a slot

Not everyone can be as lucky or and elite as you and Apathy. I care about those that are at the bottom not those at the top.

That is kind of you and I have no doubt in my mind there are many nice and kind players. What brothers me is that these kind of situations exist and are not eliminated through design.
I don’t get you, you’re basically saying that the game fails because you got bullied by a group of elitists, which is I must say close to impossible to happening in this game. The chances of you running into a group like that are 1:1000, this community is simply not like that.
On the other hand what can ArenaNet do to prevent antisocial behavior? They did everything they could to make the game as cooperative and socially binding as possible, but can they prevent people from being jerks?
Also, how were you denied the tokes if they kicked you after the boss was defeated?
I personally did that mode yesterday for the first time without having looked up the strategies (I’ve not done that for any boss or dungeon except TA story because we didn’t know how to permanently kill the illusions) and a few others were there for the first time as well, so the leader got a bit frustrated and sort of lashed out at us, but we figured it out in no time anyway.
Sure we delayed the dungeon a bit, but nobody was kicked, it never even came close to that. It wasn’t hard to figure out the strategy after a few minutes into the fight, so there was no harm done in the long run.
I also did a few more runs today and some other people made a few mistakes, but it only postponed the inevitable, not like it caused us to wipe and have to go over again. I just told them when to stop attacking and when to attack and everything went fine, I didn’t rage or anything.
Bottom line is GW2 dungeons are easy to figure out, you just need to react to stuff and naturally adapt, and if there is a gimmick about a certain boss it doesn’t take long to notice it. Given all this, I can only come to two conclusions: either you failed hard BEYOND simply not knowing the tactics outright (in which case I would recommend you stick to story modes and work on your skill), OR you came across an extremely… edgy group of players that get too upset about stuff (chances of this are 1:1000).
In either case you can’t blame the game.

There’s only so much game designers can do to prevent people from acting like jerks, and I think they did as much as they could apart from making dungeons so easy that it didn’t matter, which isn’t a very good solution. These players you complain of had that attitude before the game even came out. It’s not the game, it’s them. Now reducing the cost of repairs could help make people more receptive to inexperienced players, but even that wouldn’t get rid of the attitude 100%.
I would suggest finding a friendly helpful guild. While the game can be solo’d apart from dungeons, it’s so much more rewarding to be in a guild just for the social aspects if nothing else.

I am sorry for the experience you had, but I can’t say I had the same experience. I’ve never seen anyone get refused from a dungeon based on profession or gear, and I’ve never done so myself. The problem might be in the specific dungeon you ran. CoF explorable is infamous for its easy farming spot, which leads to elitists running it over and over for the easy gear. Avoid people that want to token farm, since they don’t run the dungeons to have fun.
