My problem with raids in this game
For reference, the damage that is wiping you is likely because you need 4 people to stand in the green circle when it shows up or else it’ll do a ton of damage to the entire group.
I agree with the complaint about the story being locked behind a wall of difficulty that many players will never climb (either due to themselves or because it is difficult to get a group for it)
“Beware he who would deny you access to information,
for in his heart he dreams himself your master.”
I don’t like it too, but it seems that most of these complaints are rather quick. Do you expect a company like anet to have content that will be beaten the day of release? I was expecting something like this from them. I bet in time these raids will have better adjustments upon release. I saw this scribe and guild hall upgrade post, and i think it’s safe to say that the reason those things are “stout” in stature is to give the team time to make proper adjustments to see what is actually going on. impatience might be getting the better of people…
Lol you aren’t even missing anything. all it is is a group of pact soldiers gets captured by bandits and you set out to save them only to find out that it’s too late. That’s it.
The lightning attack that wipes your team you don’t avoid, you have to have 4 people standing in the green circles when they spawn, if you don’t everyone dies.

It’s a side story probably and if you want to read up on it without doing raids, you will probably soon find it on the wiki/other pages.
There is actually a story?
TL;DR: HoT’s story content + very difficult content = bad.
My feeling is that, realistically, if you’re interested in the game’s story you’re probably also someone who reads about it and watches videos outside of the game. Arenanet have said it’s a side-plot at best, they aren’t going to lock away crucial story elements in the raids. Many players find the Arah explorable paths so difficult and inaccessible they are (or were, anyway) willing to pay to get credit for the last bosses. And yet there’s been little complaint about the fairly important lore so many have missed in those paths.
I’m pretty apathetic to the idea of an “easy” mode provided for those who just want to see the story. I don’t have a huge philosophical problem with it, provided the best rewards are kept in the normal/challenging mode, but for the reasons above I don’t really see much of a point either.
Consider that it’s still fairly early. This content will be around and theoretically relevant for a long time. It’s only going to get easier as the community figures out builds and strategies. Just because you haven’t killed the Vale Guardian so soon doesn’t mean you never will.
I hate people complaining about raids, but this guy has a point. Take RIFT for example. The level 65(cap) raid(The Rhen of Fate) is a 10 man raid. There’s the raid(easy- only raid currency, normal, and hard which gives extra loot) and duo mode(can be normal/hard) which can also progress your story, in case you don’t have the gear/don’t wanna learn to raid. I suppose something like this should be implemented in GW2. No chievs, no currency, just a solo/few people instance with the raid stuff hardly nerfed down, for people that want to see the story unfold, but for whatever reason don’t want to raid.
My problem with raids is not the timer. The Vale guard boss always keeps wiping out my team with some flash attack that I have no clue on how to avoid.
This problem can easy be solved, read a Guide.

TL;DR: HoT’s story content + very difficult content = bad.
There is literally no story content in the raid. Read this:
all it is is a group of pact soldiers gets captured by bandits and you set out to save them only to find out that it’s too late.

Because some other poster on the forum is a great source…Anet has even stated that there is story in the raid if you look for it and that raids will tell a portion of the story moving forward, and other posts on the forums have been talking about stuff they’ve found that offer some story.

So maybe he should read the forums for the story? Or wait till WoodenPotatoes or someone like that releases a lore video about the raid?

The story in the raid that you look for is scattered journal pages that you find throughout the area that tell about how the bandits attacked the pact camp. That’s all.

There are just references to some story elements, no actual story. You’re not missing anything, trust me.
Ya you are not missing any story really. The story is pretty small and it’s really only an excuse for the raid. What do you want them to do, just put random boss in line with no explication? They just made a couple of line of dialogue to give us a context, nothing more.
