Introduction
So I was casually browsing through the dungeon forums, and I noticed a lot of posts simply have to do with how many people vote and whether or not to keep or reimplement the dungeon instance owner. I was quite surprised by the fact that nobody thought of the alternative example used by 99% of all the other MMOs out there. I will go into the pros and the cons of it.
Party Leaders
What about party leaders for a change? Simply put, in other games, one person in a group is designated the ‘leader’. The way this is different from dungeon instance owners is that if the leader leaves, the dungeon doesn’t suddenly end. Rather, the system randomly selects someone else in the party to be the leader. In addition, party leaders can usually make someone else the leader manually if they so choose without leaving (or do so and leave after if they want someone specific to inherit the party).
The Pros
Some pros would be the fact that whoever makes the party would have control over it and would be able to manage it as they see fit. They could kick group members, invite new ones, promote another member to leader, etc. This would also mean that if they left the dungeon, the dungeon would not close. This gives people who want control over the party /they/ made said control, while also alleviating the problem of dungeons randomly closing because one person left.
The Cons
There could be a couple problems with this, however. It could, for example, end up being abused by people trying to sell dungeon paths to other people. But I feel like for the most part, this wouldn’t happen. They would have to kick each member of the party themselves.
But is there a way to alleviate this con? Yes.
Simply put, if one were to look for the best way to prevent this supposed con from happening, you could make it so that, while the party leader is the one who initiates the kick, the party is then called to vote on it. If 2 other people (3 in total) agree with it, then the person could be kicked. Or make it 3 other people (4 in total) if you want to be sure.
