New group just getting set up
pretty much all “meta” dungeoniers normally want at least 1 warrior and 1 guardian in their group for about pretty much anything. On ascalonian catacombs people tend to demand elementalists as they can spawn ice bow. If you’re not going to be following the meta but rather just having some casual fun, go with what you believe will be fun to play for you. All the dungeons can be completed with any class combination
Guardian will make it easier on your team as a whole for long fights. Elementalist will allow your team to burst through things quite quickly.
Since you have a mesmer which has a lot of overlap with guardian I’d go Elementalist. Your general job on Guardian is to put up reflects, drop stability, throw Aegis, Blind and cleanse conditions.
The general job of a mesmer is to drop reflects, cleanse conditions and do portal tricks, you can also throw some stability though and do some other stuff.
As you can see there’s plenty of overlap and a mesmer should be just fine for support.
Thief will be able to take over blinds too.
So you’re only really lacking the strong stability and aegis. Engi can drop stability too when it’s needed.
So basically there’s only a few fights you might find guardian to be really nice… at least as far as your general meta is concerned, toss a hammer on guard and that protection is very nice, especially for inexperienced players. But, at the same time being able to burst through enemies like they’re paper is quite powerful.
So again, I’d go Ele, though it’s tough to master, so final answer. Elementalist if you feel strong in your ability to pick up the game and work on mastering one of the toughest professions right away. Guardian if you don’t. Either are good choices. Aside from those two I’d say Warrior is a solid choice as well.
From a learning perspective, warrior and guardian are the most forgiving, and both are very welcome classes in any run. Elementalists are more difficult to learn, but skilled elementalists are the most desired party members in the game at the moment.
Pick a warrior if you want to be giving offensive buffs, do good DPS, and be practically unkillable when needed.
Pick a guardian if you want to be giving defensive buffs, reflect projectiles to save your team, etc, and deal decent DPS.
Pick an elementalist if you want to give very strong offensive buffs, do insane DPS, do any sort of group healing, and want to tie your fingers in knots while you do it. All that, while being as squishy as can be.
Elementalist. Save you every frustration.
