Hi guys.

My friend and I are thinking about doing the first dungeon, AC. We’re both new to the game. I have a level 31-ish elementalist and my friend’s ranger is on the same level. Currently we have the better, if not best equipment for our level (from crafting and trading). Both our classes are mainly specced for PvE, and we can usually take on champion singletons with not much problem.

Will we be able to duo the dungeon in story mode? From what I’ve gathered on the forums and the map chat, most people are looking for high level characters. Just wondering what are everyone’s take on the difficulty of the first dungeon in story mode.

At lvl30 you won’t be able to duo; on the same case, you can duo it while you’re lvl80.

I don’t recommend doing dungeons just yet. Not to sound like a prick, but you and your friend don’t fully have a concept of the game. Play it more, read more guides, read more stuff about the elementalist and just figure it out. When you truly feel comfortable (like not going on the forums for advice) then give it a take. Until then, you keep learning more about the game.

I would be really impressed if you could duo ac story at 31. Just join a group and let them know you’re new. No one will hold it against you if you die a few times.

i trio’ed AC story mode at around lvl 50s with a lvl 30 in the party. Let me tell you it was one of the most horrific experiences ever. Particularly the lovers.

Other than that the dungeon is oooooooooooook to underman. You need some pull skills and very crafty exploitation of the trash mob leash distance.

Oh and even if you read guides etc and grasp the game, you will probably still die a lot.

And like most of us your first dungeon experance will be a pretty horible one. Because nothing you do in this game teaches you how to play in dungeons. So you have to go in there try out and die until you get it right.

Thanks everyone for their input.

I guess the point is to level up more, learn on the way, and find groups.

My fear of a group is that it is easy for someone to spoil what’s coming up. And getting to a higher level is fine, but I thought I can do some dungeons as something different from normal PvE. If I had to reach near the end of the game just to see more of the story, it’s kind of baffling. I guess you can say the reward for the difficulty is the story itself…

Please just attempt the dungeon. You’d never learn if you do not start. I did my first AC story at lvl 30. It was ok.

I did it during beta, we were around level 32. It wasn’t too bad and it was faster than some runs I did a few months ago. It all depends on the team you have (not their profession, but how they play).

exactly. there is little or nothing in open world pve that will prepare you for the dungeon. so basically only thing you can do to learn the dungeon is doing the dungeon itself. if you lvl to 80 and do AC then it will be easier but you will be missing the only chance you had to actually experience AC as it should be.

go for it!

I will echo the sentiment here.

Open world PvE doesn’t prepare you for the level of challenge dungeons offer. Putting them off only servers to make the learning curve harder at higher levels when you are more molded in your playstyle.

For example, I know players that are used to turning with keyboards, clicking their skills, never tried many weapon sets or utility skills. While they are fine for general open world PvE at 80, they have a tough time in dungeons and jumping puzzles.

Often time I hear such players feeling frustrated because they were never exposed to the level of content and performance expected from the game. It’s like learning a language, you have to start when you are young.

Also, dungeons are meant for 5 players, while you are fine to do it with 2, there’s no reason to do so. Partying with others offers a chance to build a social network to make your game experience here better.

My ranger and my girlfriend’s necromancer weren’t able to do AC story duo. We didn’t even make it to the first boss before we just gave up. Only about two levels later, two of our friends went with us and we four manned it, all of us being below level 35. We had a bit of a culture shock. Coming from duoing everything in WoW for so long at max level, we didn’t expect the dungeons to actually be hard, haha. As a four man group the lovers boss was really hard until we coordinated the boulders. Just my experience for you. Might help.

Don’t bother doing dungeons with only 4 players. It’s possible (except for a few exceptions that require 5 players) but there’s really no point in doing so. The 5th player would have to be really really bad for you to take longer.
Maybe you’ll be lucky and find someone who doesn’t complain, kind of know how to play and doesn’t talk a lot.

I have completed two dungeons (AC & SE story) with only four players because someone quit. It’s possible but I wouldn’t recommend it.
