I find the new format of Fractals (one per, non-random ordering) to make them far more playable. However, in so doing I’ve managed to get to level 20, and I now have to start worrying about agony.

So, how bad IS agony? The wiki has recommendations for agony resistance that top out at 150. Considering the largest known is 21, that seems a bit excessive.

How do people survive at the higher levels?

That’s why there are multiple pieces of armor and accessories. You can put an infusion in every one. Multiples in the accessories. To achieve 150 agony, you need two +11 infusions, three +10 infusions, and the rest are +7 infusions.

with to low agony you take % of hp lost.
If you done fractals up to level 20 then you should have gotten 2 rings, that will give you atleast 10 ar 14 if you can buy the +7 infusions.
Even more if you got infused and if you can attune.

That should hold you up to atleast lvl 25 and even 30 if you can heal yourself some shout warrior or mantra heal mesmer for example.

You can go abit lower if you got maxed out fractal mastery since the revive buff give +5

OK, thanks! I was thinking I had to have all the points in one infusion. I didn’t realize that they stack.

So, I can take the +10 I have and put it on a piece of armor. Then, when I get another one (from saving up +1s), I don’t have to pull off the 10 and up it to 11. I can just put it on another piece of armor/trinket. I get it!

Yes and no mate.
You can only have +5 (upgraded to +7 if your high enough in the fractal mastery line) in armor, weapon, earrings and amulet.
You can have higher ones in the second/third slot in rings and second slot in backpiece ( they are called infused and attuned)

I found the AR system confusing too when I started.
There are 2 types of slots:

Versatile /offensive/defensive infusion slots – found on all equipment types. Will only take the +5 or +7 infusions that you buy with with fractal relics (also takes the non-AR infusions you buy from laurel vendors)

Agony resistance slots – found only on rings and back pieces, usually you have to “infuse” or “attune” the item in order to obtain these slots on your items, attuning is cheaper than infusing as you need mats from higher fractals to infuse. Will only take the +1 AR infusions (or their artificer upgraded versions ) that drop from the chests.

One of the fractal vendors does sell a AR potion if you need a quick boost. I don’t think it stacks with your other AR, but I never tried it myself

I thought that was the case, but I wanted to make sure before I burn my one agony-11. I worked pretty hard for it and don’t want to waste it.

There’s an unmarked golem near the repair golem who will teleport you across. I only discovered him after getting a good deal of my fractal masteries so I’m not sure if you need to get that first. That same vendor also sells one of the reagents you need to attune your rings

Yeah, I’ve used those. But, I’m a serious cheapskate, so I was going to set them up as they became available.

Keep in mind that the mastry vendor will also sell you a potion that gives you 10 AR. Although the potion doesn’t stack with “real” AR, 10 AR is enough for you to do the mid tier “Pick 3” daily if you stick to the low level fractals, which will give you an additional ring token and chance at a ring each day so you can speed up your ring acquisition if you don’t have them yet. If you’re really lucky you can also do the mid tier numbered daily when it rolls a low level, giving you yet another token/ring roll.

We did this for some new fractal players in the guild and it has usually halved their time to get to a pair of build appropriate attuned rings in which to stick their agony infusions, even if they don’t have any other ascended gear.

I’m actually going to give it a shot. I’m not real fond of HoT, but fractals got a lot more interesting to me when the maps weren’t random any more. And, splitting them up so you don’t have to do four means it’s easier to find groups.
