Hey so the problem I’m finding, and pretty much everyone I know on the game, is the dungeons hold no reason to be completed other than cosmetic apparel (Which I and many other have no interest in at all) and for an achievement. I would LOVE to do these dungeons, if there was a nice reward like upgraded gear and what not. But I have full exotics, so where is the reason to run through these dungeons to acquires blues for myself?

It’s pretty much the only reason why I’m getting so terribly bored with the game, even though the PvP is SO well designed and balanced :/

The difficulty in them are absurd. Insta gibs attacks to spawning infinite enemies out of thin air and ganking you, depending on luck or having a premonition to rely on luck to dodge them.

Traps insta gibs you… what the heck is up with that? The fading circles is clunky at best.

Oh yeah forgot, pulling enemies one by one to kill them? We are that afraid, we know that our skills (as a party) is not enough to hold it against 3 bosses that the developers had intended for us to fight at the same time? This is a problem.

Developers! If your intentions are to pull enemies one by one, make it so we fight them separately instead of spawning so many enemies at once or putting 3 or more bosses in one place.

Its 2012, we are way past that.

The point of running the dungeons would be to have fun in them. If you don’t see how you could have fun in them, there is no need to run them. You do not run dungeons for the reward at the end. There are interesting challenges and enemies to find in dungeons. If dungeons would have given better gear, people would have been forced to run them, despite not wanting to. The best gear in the game can be acquired in a number of different ways, which means all the other possible ways are there for fun, not nescessity.

I realize “fun” is a difficult concept to define, since it means different things for everyone, but it’s the best answer I can give. It’s a game, and I would assume you play games for fun, since that’s what the large majority do. Do things in it you find fun, not things that are boring. If getting better gear is the thing you find fun, you can either quit the game after your full exotic set, since the gear won’t get any better than that, or make sure your stats are completely optimized, or see if you can find fun in something else in the game.

@ Brewmaster.

If that really is the mentality Anet is trying to instill in players, this game is going to be very underpopulated after about two months. “fun” in an mmo is progressing your character. I’m not saying there needs to be a geargrind, but there needs to be a reward for all your hard efforts not just..hey do it for fun man. If we’re going by that sense, might as well play mario kart all day.

Point is in an rpg, mmo or otherwise, you are ALWAYS rewarded for your hard efforts. The witcher 2, you get awesome mats and loot and money for killing bosses and doing certain quests. WoW, you get gold and epic gear for completing raids. In GW2? Some kitteny blues and greens not even worth salvaging, you might as well vendor them. To get the good gear skins you have to grind the dungeon about 60 times for a full set without a weapon. Trying to instill a “do all this hard work just for fun and no reward” is going to be their downfall. This is 2012, people like to be rewarded for their endeavors. That, is fun.

Also the gear treadmill isn’t gone. Instead of stats, it has been replaced with skins.

I agree that skins are not enough of a draw to keep people coming back. My thief has a lvl 65 skin on her rare 80 set, I prefer it to the dungeon skins and plan to keep it unless I can find something else that is sleek and assassiny looking….which none of the dungeon sets are. So where is the draw for me? Im afraid that after all the waiting and hoping Im going to end up leaving the game shortly if things aren’t changed =(

I tried out WvW tonight hoping that would be a fun venue for me, but the lag killed me with all the people and anyway I’m an end game PVE’er at heart.

Good lord, dont tell me I have to go back to EQ2!?! I’ll never live it down lol.

GW1 was not for everyone neither is GW2. Many of you will love GW2, some of you will not.

Unless this “upgraded gear” is unusable in WvW i disagree.
Well maybe if you could get the same stats combination doing WvW of this “upgraded gear”

But at the current state this is a no go.

Unique skins are enough for some people, and the same group of people are also more likely to spend their money on gem for cosmetic items.

Just like Guild Wars business model, this game does not need a large number of people to stick around. Only the one that matter (willingly to spend their money).

Makes me think you’ve never ran any of the dungeons more than once. Yea, they may be fun the first time, or even second or third; but what about the 5th? If you’re running any more than that I’m sure it’s not for fun anymore but for the skins.

What made people do dungeons in other games, what kept that content alive for a long time? It was that there is something there that people want, and they may get it or they may not. Right now there is nothing people want in dungeons, the daunting task of farming for the pve gear isn’t worth doing the same dungeon 100 times.

I enjoyed the first dungeon allot, i died about 20 times but still when we completed it, it gave a great feeling of accomplishing something difficult.

But then when i came to the realisation that the explorable mode is going to be even harder i was like, nevermind i’ll just skip the dungeons.

I have a hard time thinking of even one other MMORPG that DOESN’T require you to run dungeons over and over for the best gear, the best crafting mats, the best recipes, etc.

Finally, a game comes along for those of us that don’t like being forced to run dungeons to “keep up with the neighbors,” and people want to change it to be like every other cookie cutter game.

I don’t mean to be rude, but if you like dungeon running being the center of the best of everything, then go play one of 40 other MMORPGs that are designed for your preference.

Skin rewards are fine, but having to do the same dungeon over again for just 1 piece is nonsense.

Just who the hell do you think I am!?

I you have no interest in Cosmetic Apparel, GW2 is not the game for you. Which is perfectly fine, but that is what the goal of progression is for the end-game, once you’re exoticed out, you’re done, as far as the geargrind goes, not just for the current content, or until the next expansion, (if GW1 is any indication) but, for good. That’s it, you’re done progressing in gear. This means, that if you’re looking for Gear progression in PvE/WvW you might be better off heading to play another MMO (I hear Rift Expansion is coming out in November, and MoP is hitting the shelves in 10 days)
