Offensive infusion slots are useless
A lot of people have been wondering why there’s no offensive infusion available for fractal relics. As with many questions though – no answer from Anet.
I’m kinda wondering why they even bother with different types of infusion slots anyway. I don’t see what it’s adding right now to split them up into offensive or defensive only. Just let people slot whatever they want into any kind of ascended gear.
I agree that it’s kind of dumb there’s no base offensive infusion for 75 relics as well. Don’t really see the point since offensive isn’t better then defensive, it’s just a different minor +5 stat.

SOOOOOOOOO how does that answer the “Why are there no 75 token offensive slot infusions?”
It just show us a some recipes that require grinding and farm mats/gold and/or going to the gem store to spend real cash to buy from the Trading Post……. you have not helped at all Robert…..
Forging an offensive infusion matters if you’ve hit the 2% lottery and have a ring that is actually useful to your character beyond the infusion slot. Most players are stuck using whatever crappy rings they’ve gotten just for the infusion if they want to progress, and no one is going to forge an infusion for such a ring.
Basically a defensive infusion slot is better than an offensive one ~80-90% of the time simply because it only costs 75 relics to progress with your crap defensive ring, but would cost 225 to progress with your crap offensive ring.

This is correct.
probably should have quoted Aldred in my post in which he was saying there weren’t any offensive fusions. I was simply directing him to a place where he can learn about them.
Wasn’t intended to answer the question of why there isn’t a cost clone of the defensive one.
I can answer with a simple question: did you wonder why there are 2 classes: offensive and defensive? Roles. Not not so much visible now playing fractals, they will be more pushy later, expecially when new gear is online (weapon/armor ascended)
For example soothing infusion (defensive/omni) has +5 and % agony resistance. He will survive way more than one with malign, who is doing the dps. Kinda of trinity model, soon back online to complete the clone model. Clearly, who use def with % res is who has to survive, like a tank/healer, but the kind of gameplay zerging around skills senseless and without any form of real teamwork will be kept. The % guy is the one who rev.

Could you answer the question?

I know, for the actual stage of fractals, offensive or defensive is just a matter of which infusion craft/buy, noone care, some whine because their particular infusion is 20g+ expensive at best. Will be more clear later, on future update of ascended gear, and weapons+armor ascended. Still, as you see, noone talk about soothing infusion, and how important it is

That’s true. I only have one infused ring and it’s condition dmg, which is really useless. I still haven’t made the desicion to buy an 225 relic infusion for it. So I still only using my non-infused rings…

:) Actually, if you re-read my post I was asking specifically why there are no offensive infusions available for fractal relics:
A lot of people have been wondering why there’s no offensive infusion available for fractal relics. As with many questions though – no answer from Anet.
I think most of us are aware that all types of infusions are available via the mystic forge if you want to grind 100s of mats, but the original question, which I was just rephrasing, was why there’s no offensive infusion available on the FotM vendor for the same price as the defensive one.
Edit: Typo.

Wouldn’t a content designer be in the best place to answer that question?
what i don’t understand is WHY would any1 spend 20g+, 50 skill points to get an additional +5 to a certain stat!? This is the stupidest (if that’s even a word lol) upgrade the whole game has… +5 to a stat LOLOLOLOLOL
Whats the big problem? The relic are only used to buy infusion and a backpack. Just pay the 225 relic its like two daily, and you will need a maximum of 4 if you are really unlucky.
And you dont even need the agony resist to progress, if you want ez mode a be able to eat the boss agony then pay the relic price, its cheap.
(Better pratice avoiding that agony now, later agony resist wont help you much)

Because that is how high-end stat progression works in MMOs.
See: Raiding highest tier content for a tiny stat upgrade.
See: EVE officer modules worth literally thousands of times more than slightly worse stuff.
See: TSW dungeon running dozens of times for a percentage point or two upgrade.
There can only be one “the best thing to put in this slot” for any given situation, and given that there are people running around with thousands of gold and nothing to spend it on, there’s basically no reasonable limit on what people will shell out to max out.
Same goes for “toy” type items that are limited quantity. They might not be worth anything to you, but to someone with maxed-out stats, hundreds of times the wealth you have, and nothing else to spend it on, things literally become priceless.
Whats the big problem? The relic are only used to buy infusion and a backpack.
They’re also used to buy gifts that are used to upgrade current ascended gear, and will likely be used to upgrade future ascended gear. It is also extremely likely that more ascended gear will be added to the fractal vendors in the future.
I can see why people are hesitant to shell out relics, as they’ll probably be more useful as time goes on.
Yes you should hesitate beetween getting it since like you said it will most likely be useful later, but agony resist is kind of a big thing right now you should not just get it for free. I mean if you are unlucky and get only offensive ring , its still just a few fractal for the price of cutting agony damage by half for each infusion.
If you had to have agony resist to progress then i could understand why people are so upset about the price, but when it makes a boss mechanic that could one shot you do a few thousands hp, it should cost something.
Given that what rings people get is completely random why isn’t there a cost clone of the defensive one?
what i don’t understand is WHY would any1 spend 20g+, 50 skill points to get an additional +5 to a certain stat!?
Well…..
If it is the only thing to go for…why not?
But yeah, as for the 75 relic thing. Anyone find it odd that ANet is unwilling to answer this? Maybe it was a mistake on their end similar to Dungeon armor pricing mistake? Though it would be a big’un to make, but…..
I think if you just answer their question Robert we might see what ANet wants us to notice. Right now we just see blatant unfair pricing structure.
I find bad players in bad gear offensive but not sure about these slots :-P
So after only getting my first ring yesterday, (not a useful one either) that has an offensive slot, you are telling me to continue without hassle of agony killing me ever so easily I must spend 250 globs to infuse this thing, or 100 T6 mats? >.> I will uh, sit at lvl 10 “farm” rings just to min/max some stats (if I ever get a useful one lol) and continue towards my legendary ty.

you can get a simple omni infusion for that ring for a relatively small amount of fractal tokens, so no you dont have to spend the globs and mats. Its weird that there is no offensive infusion available from that vendor to match the really cheap defensive one but neither is the virtual sky falling on your head.

You cant upgrade rings to 5 agony resist. +5 agony resist rings only have a chance to come from 20 dailies. If you add an infusion it can have +10 agony res
Why am I the only person that thinks the rage posts over a ring not dropping is completely insane? This is a game and it’s something you do for fun. If you are that distressed over the stats on a ring then you should try leveling another class and stop focusing on this one aspect of the game.
I hope everyone that wants gear gets that gear but I hope Anet doesn’t cave to the crying and just give it to them.
Oh wow, cant believe people are complaining about this. My first ring was a crappy +73 prec +73 pow +10% MF ring with an offensive infusion slot. I spent the requisite 225 tokens on the infusion and did not regret it, because I had MORE than enough tokens for the versatile infusion. The only reason you should care at all about that extra 150 tokens is that it will slow your progress down to an ascended backpiece by what? 3 daily runs on Lvl.10? Seriously if you’re aiming for an ascended backpiece you had better be prepared to do a LOT of fractal runs anyways.
Get over it, in other words.
Also, if you do not like the extra grinding required for the +5 to each stat then don’t even bother. Don’t do things that are not worth doing, it’s a simple concept really.
That said, I think +10 is a more reasonable number and more likely to make some kind of difference in performance than +5.
I think many people forget that GW2 wants to make it easy for people to achieve max stats, and it does a decent job at it. If I just hit 80 and got a full set of exotics from karma/dungeons/events (not too hard to do) then I’m far less likely to care about that guy who spent 500 hours grinding for his legendary having a huge advantage over me in combat.

It’s not easy to achieve max stats at all. It takes running a dungeon repeatedly so that the right ring drops twice, then spending 20g on items for a 5 point boost in the infusion slot 3 times. This could end up being repeated many more times if they follow this system for the next rollout of ascended gear.
This doesn’t count how many fractals you run for the backpiece, or the tremendous amount of t6 mats that you need to make one yourself. I’ve played the game for 600+ hours and have about 20 of every t6 mat besides the ones I got while making clovers (bloods and bones are 60/80). I spent about 5 on exotic gear and that’s it. Saying nothing of the 250 ectos required to infuse the backpiece.

There’s no grind in gw2.

I consider any gear which has -20 of absolute max stats to be ‘basically max stats’. Its far different from trying to run dungeons in green and yellow gear when most of the other members have exotics.
If you think that the +5 will really help you (it wont) or if you are a completionist who MUST have absolute max stats for the sake of having absolute max stats then go for it. However it’s not going to ruin your experience by not having it — and I think that is the whole point.
I consider any gear which has -20 of absolute max stats to be ‘basically max stats’.
well, that’s not the definition of the word maximum, so I’m not sure why you’re using it.
+5 across all 12 pieces of gear will help you. even if it didn’t, if the difference is that small take it out of the game.

5? We have 3 infusion slot so make it 15. When new weapons and armor ascended are out make: rings+back (5 each) +5 cond dmg main weapon, +5 secondary, +5x6 piece of gear= +55 cond dmg, while you, with your exotic trash, are way less underpowered. BiS. Now compare a +55 group with an exotic group performance: half time or less.
Basic math, ever heard?
Geargrind to be extreme with uber cond dmg and kill in half time.
Be pro, elitism. etc.
Like million other mmos out geargrind based
p.s. i forgot other accessories, like the one on your neck and ears, put a +5 on them too now.

Can i just point out, that is the reason i never touch those types of games you wrote down, and the reason i played GW1 as everyone was on an even footing, if i wanted that type of game play i’d have played those games..
This whole implementation to Guildwars 2 has had a terrible and damaging direction added, we need these types of additions stopped and repaired asap.
Pre-fractals it was relatively easy to acquire max stats.
Post-fractals it is incredibly difficult to acquire max stats – getting the two rings that go with your character will take ~120 daily chests, for example (at a 25% drop rate).
Pre- and Post- fractals GW2 are very, very different games from a loot grind perspective; Pre-fractals GW2 was relatively grind free when it comes to power, while post-fractals GW2 is a massive grind game (though still on this side of Lineage).
The main reason I can’t answer the question is because I personally didn’t build the merchant, and it’s the weekend so I’m not in contact with the person who did.
I’ll try to get that info on Monday though, and post here when I know the answer
Thank you very much.

Now, consider this:
the + 5 infusion is a blue one – basically equivalent to a tier 1 jewel. Ascended equivalent would be + 32/+ 18/+ 18…
How much would that kind of infusion cost, if + 5 costs 20g, 50 skill points?
Remember, remember, 15th of November

Robert, I imagine it must be difficult hearing crud from people on here all day. I just want to acknowledge that before I say, “You folks broke the game!” lol
Only insanely OCD folks are still trying to grind for this. Sane individuals most likely gave up on the game already. You know those times when you makes things harder in hopes a person might feel more rewarded after? This isn’t one of them. This is more along the lines of “about kitten time and I don’t ever want to see or do that EVER again.” type of thing. Which, really isn’t promising a business model. The player base is mostly ocd but, even we’re not THAT ocd. I wouldn’t bet any real money on this…

if you have bad luck or run just level 10 daily doesnt mean everyone else has bad luck only actual people you see on these forums ar people that QQ or want to make the game easier the rest of the players dotn want the game to be easier becouse they will just get bored and leave the game

As someone who got 2 rings in their first 4 daily runs, the system still sucks.
i came here to make this thread, then i found this one so i’l just post here. this was very short sighted on behalf of the person/people that decided for it to work this way.
the benefit of an offensive slot is MASSIVELY outweighed by the cost, no matter if you go for the relic infusion or the forge crafted one. 75 relics for a defensive item giving 5 res and 225 relics for 5 res in an offensive is just flat out absurd. so then you may think “well just craft one in the forge, they are better anyway since they have more than just 5 agony res”. ya except they require an idiotic amount of T6 mats/skill points for what you get. someone with 5 more of a stat than someone else on each piece of gear isnt all of a sudden so much strong of a character that it matters in the end, screw people’s kitten, the kitten needs to be reasonable and right now the relic cost and the material/skill point cost are NOT reasonable for +5 of a single stat
you cant make the amount of extra stats any higher because then it will make everyone feel like offensive is the only way to go because of the bonuses(and rightfully so), so that only leaves with reducing the cost/mat required to make the kitten things.
edit: lets also not forget when you upgrade your back piece in the forge is destroys the infusion you’re using, so if you went for an offensive one you either have to leave it uninfused until you max it out(defeating the purpose of ascended gear), or take the massive hit on what you spent to infuse it to begin with
(edited by Fazzi.4876)
Well, if by some miracle you get the two rings you want (yes two, since they are “Unique” equipped, you need two different named rings with the same stats to equip both), you’ll have one defensive and one offensive slot.
So yeah, if all you care is to get any ring at all for agony resist purpose, the offensive slots are a waste. If you want to get the best rings for your built, you’ll HAVE to deal with it. Making the cost to get +10 agony at exactly 300 tokens.
way to miss the entire point
I’m going to echo the sentiment in here. The offensive slots are useless. All it means is that my Solaria is costing me extra time for no extra advantage. The +5 stat advantage is useless. I know you guys don’t want grind. 250 tier 6 mats for +5 stats or 250 ectos for +5 infusion seems to be the biggest grindy-time-waster in the game.
Unless I’m wrong, of course. I’d love to be educated in how the possibility +5 of one offensive stat is worth that much extra time and if obtained will allow me to dominate face in WvW.
It’ll be interesting to discover what the reason for this is – charging three times as much for basic agony resist if your ring has an offensive slot seems both unnecessary and cruel.
Bump for a reminder for an answer, in same boat as everyone else. I have two offensive crappy stats rings, which I don’t want to shell out 225 relics for.
Bump for I still don’t have any ring and don’t wish to grind to infuse. Then grind to infuse again! All for a little +5???
….am I viewed as this awesome pet hamster running on a wheel for you, Anet?… I don’t mind (that much) if I knew how many revolutions I had to complete, first.
Hey folks!
Here’s the update. I talked with folks about the discrepancy between the defensive Simple Infusion and Versatile Simple Infusion cost differences and application, and we all came to the conclusion that a more fair vendor solution is the following:
-Remove the Simple Infusion for defensive slots from the vendor (currently costs 75 tokens)
-Lower the cost of the Versatile Simple Infusion to 75 tokens (from 225).
Since the versatile can fill both the defensive/offensive slots, we found this to be the least confusing resolution to the problem. There won’t be any refunds (to my knowledge) to the people who bought the Versatile Simple Infusion for 225 tokens.

you want it to give people +100 stats, the stats apply on WvWvW right? that will give them bigger advantage on WvWvW? so no thanks.

LOL, seriously? I already spend 450 tokens on versatile, so I wasted 300. XD
I hope you guys refund, just to be fair for everybody.
I have been viewing it as RNG, if you got a ring with defensive slot then you are very lucky, if you got a ring with offensive slot then you are lucky but not very, if you got no ring then you’re unlucky.
do what you think is better for more people though, but I hope you refund us… pretty please… so that I can spend it on two 20 slot bag.

You just can’t appease people.
