this whole “all max berz or your out” mentality. but it was to be expected actually. but i think we might see a remake on the COF paths to make them require more then dps. but it might take a while.
if you want to join those groups just buy all berz/ruby and they’ll accept you, i’ve never run a “all max berz”- run even though i have a warrior in max berz, i just dont find it fun. i much rather run fotm.
There is no gear pinging unless you are planning on starting farm team, in which case it’s full berserkers.
Most people go there in order to get geared in the first place and are after tokens.
Are 6 x Ruby Orbs the preferred upgrade on Armor or is it 6 x Superior Divinity Runes or something else?

in terms of pure damage ruby orbs are by far the best

Who is “they”?

Scholar runes are still better than ruby orbs and will probably always be.
@Waraxx: It’s not only a CoF thing. Everywhere in PvE berserker gear works best by far. Using pvt or clerics or knights (well, an anchor should throw in some knight pieces) are just suboptimal – they suck.
A 5 berserker group is going to do every dungeon in this game faster and easier than a group of random armor sets.

And then A.Net actually implements interessting fights and all the zerkers will complain about it. Those tears will be delicious
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Like those in AC? It’s even more relying on good dps than before. Unless the game mechanics (dodging instead of tanks) isn’t totally remade berserker gear will always be the only good.

Sure buddy

If tanky gear is so good, why do so many people who run tanky gear (on a non guardian) die so often

How are scholar runes better? There’s no precision increase and the critical dmg increase is less.
Is it because of this “(6): +10% Damage damage while health is above 90%.” ?

yes and the 45 more power. Many over rate crit damage and undervalue power. I also read that 5 mesmer 1 ruby orb was better then all ruby because of the increased stats being slightly better then the crit damage.

Some people were using full zerker builds way before cofmania, in dungeons where most people would consider that a suicide.

Quite a bit of variety here.
Ruby Orbs are not situational while other runes are. So unless you want to be all nerdy carrying a calculator to each fight, number crunching active boons, forcing yourself to play different in order to obtain a rune perk, which no one actually does, go Ruby Orb.

Full Zerker will always be the right answer because ArenaNet will never balance content around the assumption that you have someone playing full support or full control. Even if you have Zerk gear, it doesn’t mean you can’t bring stuff like projectile blocks, blinds, weakness, protection, etc. Killing it faster is always a good solution to a fight.

This is such bad advice lol. Scholar runes ONLY do more damage when you’re above 90% hp. How often do you find yourself at 90% hp to be able to maintain that dps? Scholar runes also cost significantly more than a ruby orb. Ruby orb gives 12% Crit damage on warriors that already have near if not 100% crit.
Take your pick, pay 90s for 120power, 70 precision, 12% crit dmg on a constant basis or pay 22.8gold for 165 power, 8% crit dmg, 10% damage only when you’re at 90% or higher health.
The 90s vs 22.8g alone should be enough to make a decision.

Price is somewhat irrelevant if talking about min maxing and the time you need for that 10% to be up in order to outperform orbs is fraction of the fight’s duration. Yes, ruby can be better but scholar has way higher potential.
Scholar “CAN” be better, but is not always better. Feel free to advocate throwing away alot of money for “min maxing” when the difference is highly situational and insignificant. Rather have universal armor for dungeons, than an armor set that works better in a fraction of the dungeons.
My crude calculations shows that scholar runes will be better than ruby orbs if you manage to stay above 90% of hp about 21% of the time.

It’s a bit worse than that, since Scholar runes are additive with the other compound multipliers (you’re doing 10% more of your unmodified damage).
Having said that, Scholar is still pretty much always the better choice when playing a glass cannon in the current available content.

So this is why so many people get kicked from high level fotm runs.

“Whenever you can keep your hp above 90%”. Which is not “always”. Closer to “sometimes” than “always”.
In this case “sometimes” ~= 21%.
In this case “sometimes” ~= 21%.
May I ask how you arrived at 21% of all encounters a Tyrian player goes through?
Example: a bad player who never dodges would never be able to maintain more than 90% of their hp.

Not to mention you lose DPS if you waste time dodging!

You calculate average dps of both sets and if you manage to stay above 90% hp ~21% of the time their dps is the same. This percentage value might vary a bit based on your build but I’ve used your standard 20/25/0/10/15 build.
