Overly aggressive dungeon "spam" filter
That’s what descriptions are for. If you want something like “lvl 80 experienced dps only” that’s what you should be posting instead of spamming groups with descriptions like “any path” or something like that.
if only more people could read…
It’s not just an issue with joining too much. I’ve had multiple instances where I’d get the spam block even when I hadn’t joined a party in over an hour. I agree, I see no point in the spam feature.
Define “garbage.”
I’ll hold my “elitist alert” flag until then.
if you want smooth runs there are two options: dungeon guild or getting a fl with decent players

is this a threat?

yes I have no idea how it works… Sometimes I get it after joining two parties, sometimes four.
can confirm there really is a bug:
ran a few dungeons without any problems (left no group before a path was finished, when I was instance creator I didn’t leave the group until the last one left the dungeon (I know annoying it is if you get inventory full and the instance leader leaves, kicking everyone out). afterwards I tried joining a group for another path, it failed. I refreshed, tried again, after a few times I got blocked. while waiting for the block to dissipate, I watched the lfg tool. the same group kept showing up (classes/description identical).
my theory is, the group I tried to join was full (I doubt they really were looking for a fifth for over 15 minutes) but the lfg tool didn’t register that and offered the group – probably until they finished the path and disbanded.
if my theory is correct, don’t try to join the same group twice if it failed. if you click and don’t get into the group, it might be a zombie, just join another one =)
another thing, which I’m not really sure about, but I think this is how it works: if a group invites someone for the last spot (friends etc), it seems nobody can join them on the lfg until the pending invitation is cancelled but the group still might show up – it is possible this leads to the same behavior, though I can’t really test it (if anyone has 5 friends to test it with, it would be interesting to know)
“You’ve joined too many groups recently”
I get this so many times. I’m not spamming parties I’m just trying to find one that isn’t garbage. I’ve done dungeons so many times I just want a smooth run without any BS. Since there’s no way to see anything about people beyond class I end up baling on a lot of failures.
please get rid of this awful feature. I’m not really sure why this was implemented when things like 2 man kick and the whole party being kicked when leader leaves are untouched. this is an annoyance and serves no purpose. A party spammer or whatever will be voted out quick if they are annoying.
I’m glad you find it annoying. I find it pretty annoying for people to join, have a full group and one person leaves. I basically have to open up the LFG panel, hit advertise, and hit OK again.
Well, if this is a bug, this should be posted in game bug forum.
Join spam protection is a good thing, it prevents people from trolling groups with multiple joins.
OP if you are joining and leaving the groups you don’t like, then it is great that you get blocked for joining. because you are using the tool wrong

^ do this
I just start my own party and advertise for zerker only, then have them ping gear their gear. Kick about 6 or so people on average before I get decent ones but works out well.
If you want to have a decent team OP, you need to take the initiative and make it yourself. Yes, unfortunately you will have to gearcheck and be quite stringent. It’s not fun, but that’s the reality at this point in time.
Personally I am for the filter because it stops people spam joining my party after I have kicked them multiple times because they disregard my advertisement. If changes need to be made, make it so you cannot join the same party more than 3 or 4 times within a certain time period or something.
Joining different parties and then leaving should probably not be affected at all.
I sympathize with the OP, I too have joined multiple parties and left as soon as I see something like ‘I run a full support spec!’ or ’I’m a condi pressure build, or load in and see staff eles and mace guards.

Yeah, I know, it’s so hard to open the panel again and click OK. I feel ya. The op should die in a fire. You know what? We should have an option to “bind” the pugs to our party so they can’t leave it once they’re in.
Now, swifty, you tell me where do you find the patience to go all through that ceremony everytime you have to pug…? I don’t even have the strength to kick anymore, we just carry them while having some fun, talking to each other. We call it charity runs.

Someone like this joins. Doesn’t read the description. I kick him. He rejoins. He does this about 5 times and starts cussing at us lol. People like that, no way am I carrying them lol.
I admit, I didn’t originally have the patience to sift through all this, but recently I have been dealing with really, really, really poor players.

LOL.
LoL.
lOl.
I laughed so heartily my cat is now staring at me, a confused look in his eyes.

Had a similar situation where we asked for a berserker warrior and an engineer joined. He even tried to convince us. Why wasting your time? Move on.
Now I stopped doing that, because I even see underleveled people joining (meaning, a lvl 42 trying to join for TA), so I just don’t write anything in the description other than the path and…
… pray.
I guess that makes me a scumbag, uh?

I did report the bug ingame – posting here was more to help identify the problem for others (and maybe clarify it), because, let’s face it, ANet usually takes a long time to fix bugs they fully understand, those they can’t immediately and easily reproduce seem to be ignored more often than not.
while I understand the raging from the posters above, this thread wasn’t about bad people joining your groups, it’s about when the spam filter blocks people without any reason. I agree the filter should be left in, but it has to work correctly.
clicking on join without actually being able to join should not up our joined-groups counter. only successfully joining a group and then leaving should do that. and we do need a few free passes, because there are lot of ‘80s only speedrun’ groups where half the group is just above the dungeon min lvl.
