PLEASE fix Mai Trin relogging bug
Everyone that has done fractals for a while knows that if you die during Mai Trin you can relog and Ellen Kiel will res you and you can walk to a certain spot to get back into the fight. It’s a bug that has been a part of this fractal since I can remember and it NEEDS TO BE FIXED.
I got kicked from a party just now for NOT RELOGGING FAST ENOUGH. One or two people went down and I died so I relogged to get back in and when I got back into the fractal a vote kick was called and I was kicked from the party. When I messaged one of the people in the party he said I was “a useless kitten who didn’t know how to relog.” So now this bug has gone from something that people use to make the fight easier to something that people think is required to beat the encounter and are actually kicking people who don’t relog or even just those who don’t relog fast enough.
Just PLEASE fix it. It sucks so much to get to the final fight in a full set of fractals and get kicked before getting the final loot.
No offense but, without this glitch, most people wouldn’t bother doing fractals lvl 50 because Mai Trin is a terrible fight (the cannon phase that is), it’s either this or having a thief with stealth or get out…
@ Amineo Or learn how to do the fight and bring a build that can cleanse itself and doesn’t get one shot by cannons. Cause ya know. Thats a thing.

Sometimes the AOE’s are invisible and you die of nothing, it’s apparently a CPU problem so… Yeah people should learn about building a better PC…

Err. Honestly if thats happening they should be filing bug reports with anet and getting support. Not finding out how to exploit the game.
If there computer doesn’t meet the minimum requirments that anet puts up. Then sorry but thats not the games fault. If there using outdated drivers. Thats there own kitten fault.
Again. I don’t feel theres any excuse for exploiting under any situation. Your purposely breaking the rules of the game that you agreed to when you first loaded it up last I checked.
So yeah. If this exploit gets fixed. I won’t have any pity for anyone involved.
Also. how large is the demographic of people your describing that have these cpu issues. I imagine its less than a percent or the forums would be CRAWLING with posts about it. And yet this is the first time ive ever even heard about this bug and I roam the forums pretty often (note that doesn’t mean I didn’t miss it of course. But youd think I would have atleast HEARD about it before)

And you think it hasn’t been reported? Really? Hint: It’s been reported for Mai Trin and other fractals, coughmoltenduocough.
Sure, I’m all for this change. But first, make all the fractal bosses similar in difficulty.
Either up the difficulty on Molten Duo and Slug, or lower it on Mai. The last thing this game needs is another roulet of “do I get screwed by the game”. Especially after spending 40-60 minutes with 4 other random players in high level fractals.

Report the people from that group. It’s not okay to get kicked for this, espcially after 1 fight.
Then again, this reads a lot like “I went semi afk once I died and the group decided to kick me because they felt I was not contributing enough”.

Yeah to confirm this I just thought I’d let everybody know that the cannon phase aoes literally NEVER get rendered improperly for me anymore.
It actually has nothing to do with connection like I thought. It’s 100% hardware related.
Since I’ve gotten my new laptop I’ve actually discovered that every single aoe and boss attack is synced perfectly now.
It amazes me, but the only solution to the cannon phase and everything else in this game not being bullkitten and having the aoe range indicators actually display properly is to simply upgrade your system. :x
EDIT: Just to add to this, I’ve also noticed that all mobs on this game (i.e. elite deadeyes/sentinels in Arah p2) seem to aggro on me ~1 second earlier than usual, and I no longer need to preemptively dodge mage crusher or lupicus autoattacks etc. Also when I kite mai trin around, she follows me in a perfect circle now instead of going in seemingly random directions. This same thing applies to mossman— he stops running behind me constantly every time I move and try to 100b him on warrior.
It’s astonishing to find out that for what, 2.5 years on this game I knew nothing different other than what it’s like to play with every single thing displayed on this game being at minimum 1 second delayed from realtime. WTF.

Mai trin needs a rework as well it’s such a terrible, boring fight.
I agree with a mai trin rework along with a bugfix. On one hand, the relog bug means no one even tries to learn the fight because of the relog bug (its very possible to res people in off cannon phases) buf the wayfight is a mess of conflicting design decisions that make it frankly stupid in multiple ways, then throw in some buggy behavior and its so bleh.
Lets hope that some fixes made it into the fractal 100 updates
If it got fixed people then when pug groups wipe they would insta kick the first person or two who died, so they can try to get someone better to finish with. That would happen way, way, way more often than the OP kicked for not relogging fast enough (which i sympathize with, it was a super kittenish move, but come on, it cant happen often)
Yea its a dumb bug but if you fix anything just remake the whole fight, or at least just the cannon phase.
Remove the cannon phase and voila, they can fix what ever bug there is and everyone will be happy.
The cannon phase is boring, has zero interaction with the players, and is the definition of a time waster. It discourage player-to-player interaction. If during 1st April, they suddenly spawned angry killer rabbits instead of cannon phase, then the player base would plead to Anet that it would be made permanent! A joke is better than the current fight, and anything that allow groups to endure it is a bonus at this point.

This thread is so full of fail. This is the equivalent to complaining that your thief buddies robbed you while you were out robbing someone.

Trin is already most annoying fight due to her bugs and timegating. So at least fix her awesome barrage and animation bugs first, or make your own groups. I’m sure you will enjoy sitting for hours in LFG.

Mai Trin’s fight area is green.
AoEs are red.
I’m red-green color blind.
You can see where I’m going.
Kitten Mai Trin.
Ellen Kiel only rezzes people if she dies at the start of the fractal and you rezz her. Just make sure she does not die, then your group cannot use the relog trick.

People exploit b.c Anet WONT fix their game, players been talking about this sense it came out, anet knows, anet dont care.
Oh FYI YOU CAN DIE AND OOC TO LET A PLAYER RES IN ALL OTHER BOSSES!!!!
Why should Mai Trin be different?
The most difficult about Trin is people who don’t know how it works tbh

Killed her hundreds of times and know how to solokite her. Still sometimes dying from barrage because of awesome tellings. Geee, surely this is l2p issue.

Ehh, I think I had the issue once on my old potato, actually was easier to see the circles without the shiny floor too. But anyways, minimum spec computer never really had the issue. Then my internet started getting crappy, and then I noticed it more, which isn’t surprising, lag leads to dying before animations happen all the time, but anyways I get it somewhat regularly now, not often by any means but it pops up once a week or so when I’m getting particularly low speeds. Just saying that I think there is normal lag stuff that could look just like the issue being described as well, but it’s to be expected with lag.

I’ll agree that the tellings for the barrage are still not precise. Imo you get a feeling for it over time, but yes, it’s still annoying. That affects a lot of the “old” aoe-circles though.
@Etybagig Sad to hear about your bad experience there
Every time I see someone waiting for Ellen Kiel to die (to get the exploit running) or even spamming chat “LET HER DIE!!” I just charge ahead to save her and screw it up. Seriously, start playing – not exploiting the game. Luckily I play mostly with friends who support my point of view so we can actually force people to play instead of exploiting stuff and not get kicked for that.
Probably you need to join a guild to have folks with you on those runs as well – you will be amazed how aggressive random people start playing rabbits when they see 3 guildies in the same group. Suddenly they are fine with not skipping some trash and doing fractals/dungeons your way.
Talking about the Mai Trin fight itself – it actually has an easy pattern that can be remembered over 4-5 tries/kills. All you need is to watch over teleport and whirl attacks. Whirl can only be dodged, teleport can only be blocked – both can be blocked by any immune. Of course to solo her on any given class it will take more training, but for 5-man group it is more than enough to know.
Also you need is to take your survival skills (and traits/gear if skills aren’t enough) to get through cannon phases and avoid Mai Trin attacks – every single class in game has plenty available in one or another form.
If you are trying to do this encounter in full zerk with max damage output utilities – don’t blame the encounter that you die a lot. Don’t blame the encounter that you have to use an exploit to at least kill the boss – you just completely fail at understanding what is more important for this fight. And it is certainly not a “lightning storm”, “banner of discipline” or “feel my wraith”. If you take “mist form”, “endure pain” or “renewed focus” instead you will most probably be safe on the cannon phase, even if you hit a circle or two. Take a few more and you are bullet-proof. Add a knight set and you are totally unkillable there.
What? Don’t like non-zerk gear? Does it really matter that much on this fight if you spend an additional minute but will avoid a wipe and 10 minutes more for the next try? It is completely reasonable if you are not 100% sure your group can beat the boss in full zerk.
And yes, I’ve heard people having issues with circles, but never seen it myself on any PC I had, even slow ones. I tend to believe those people so I think there actually is a bug, even though I clearly see them failing at dodging or running away from circles – it is not their fault if those actually are not rendered on the screen for them or misplaced.
But this is just a minor bug that happens for a few people I know and only on Mai Trin encounter. And I never had more than two people saying they have this glitch on Mai Trin at once. Also people tend to fake their fails under a curtain of game bugs. And not just on this specific encounter. I am pretty sure similar “ghost bugs” will appear in raids and new fractals as well and people will just blame the game instead of actually trying to play better. This is what actually annoying.

Good. If players are too bad to stay alive in the Mai Trin fight, then they shouldn’t be doing level 50 fractals. I’d rather play with people who have learned the simple task of not standing in cannon fire.

I used to have the same complaints, but it really is a hardware-related issue. :/

Mai Trinn, is a very engaging boss fight in my opinion. Much butter than the Jade Maw in terms of action and dynamics.

If those people are at scale 50 and haven’t learned to evade aoes, then they probably shouldn’t be doing scale 50 imo.
I am at least 65% certain this is fixed in HoT.

That’s a lot of self-righteous text for someone who openly claims to actively ruin runs for people looking to do the fight the more accepted way.

“… for someone who openly claims to actively force people to avoid game exploits and play properly instead of using those exploits in a mind-numbing manner” – Fixed.
I might also add that I “force” people to kill The Mossman properly on the ground instead of spaming 1 underwater… Hopefully that isn’t too much for ya
Aside jokes – you really think that letting people to use exploits does any good? But I guess you prefer using them and will self-righteously defend them at any cost in-game and on forums so arguing on this matter will lead nowhere.
My biggest complaint with mai trin is my complaint with all of gw2. The particle effects making it impossible to see anything.
My second biggest complaint is also a universal complaint. The very unpredictable nature of gw2 content. Unblockable attacks, condition immunity, unreflectable projectiles. All without any in game indication of it.
Mai Trin isn’t that hard to solo.

- No one has ever or is going to be banned for the Mossman or Mai Trin exploits.
- It actually is griefing actively trying to prevent people from playing how they want to, even if how they want to play is exploitative or cheesy. You won’t get banned for it, but it definitely makes you a kitten regardless of if they, too, are kittens. There’s something in here about two wrongs don’t make a right.
- They’ll be fixed soon.
If Anet fixes this people will learn to just login on a different character on wipe/near wipe. I do this all the time on Mai and arch diviner. You don’t even need ar to save the progress but it helps if you actually want to then contribute. I doubt they will be changing that but I could be wrong. I don’t have a problem with fractals myself after doing 1000+ runs but I always go with pugs so I’ve carried plenty.
Mai Trin isn’t that hard to solo.
Only if you’re a Guardian (even though most of her and Horrik projectiles are unblockable) or Warrior.

I actually found it fairly easy on my Necro post CPC change, even without using it to stop the unblockable projectiles.

I remember managing to solo her with Ele and Mesmer back then and I don’t consider myself as a very good player.
Being able to step out of her sword AAs before she hits you is one of the most important things, imo.

- I know that no one will be banned for that. But is it actually an excuse for using an exploit? I don’t think so. And I am not sure why you mentioned that topic.
- On the opposite side – they are doing the same to us (a a guild group) trying to force us to play the way they want to. This can be called griefing as well. Also we are not forcing any playstyle on boss itself like a lot of groups out there, we only avoid people from using exploits in our runs.
- Hopefully character switch will also be fixed.
Only if you’re a Guardian (even though most of her and Horrik projectiles are unblockable) or Warrior.
Horrik’s cannon attacks and Mai Trin spinning projects aren’t blockable, but dodgeable AND avoidable by moving to the sides, so it is not an issue. Mai teleport though can only be blocked.
It is pretty easy almost on any class if you know class well enough. You just need right traits and utilities to block/immune some attacks and simply avoid the rest. It is doable even without crazy vigor uptime or special endurance food.

- I mention it because a number of players will only stop doing something if it has negative ramifications for them. Since these don’t, there’s literally no downside to using them other than the potential disapproval of your fellow player. ANet recognizes the issues and they’ll get addressed, but in the meantime “oh well”.
- If your group is the majority of the group (3+ players) and you started the LFG, of course you’re free to set the rules. The other players wanting to exploit couldn’t grief you if they tried, though, because it’s not like they can actively kill Ellen with you protecting her. If they whine, you outnumber them, you can kick them. They are not griefing you. Griefing is defined as taking a tangible action in-game that prevents others from playing the game how they want. At worst the other players can verbally abuse you, which is its own punishable offense, but not the same as griefing.
- I wouldn’t hold your breath for that one, but it’s possible.
