Please no new content, focus on fixing old
I for one am not impressed with the adding of fractals when the other dungeons are in need of work. Some are just horribly not fun. And now we have fractals, what a mess when you lose hours of hard gaming only to have a member dc. and then you decide to make a bugged dungeon part of the monthly?
This. We don’t WANT new content. No-one does. We want the content that is currently there to actually kittening work!

All of the current dungeons are horrible minus the fractals. I think they are well designed and more or less well tuned. However with the patch today they bugged at least 2 of the fractals to unplayable.
Have you read what a dev has posted, they have the most massive update for january and february, expect minor old content fix, and lot of new content that will remain unfixed (except for exploits that make it easier ofc)
Retired Until Expansion or Meaningful Content is Released.
And if they had any brains they would completely scrap that until they fix their kitten. But it seems Money is more important to them so we won’t get fixes.
I agree, and to me this month is the true litmus test, if they release winter content patch before fixing bugs introduced in lost shores, we will know it’s only going to get worse.
I can see it now, toymakers golem airships caused an issue that made mesmers only able to conjure one clone.

Enough said, I believe that people don’t care as much about, nor need all these content updates that only require fixes themselves while older content remains unbalanced or bugged still. Please consider switching your focus fr all your updates. I know you have teams working on both, but the fixes are just not fast enough and support is simply too slow and for weeks you get automated responses that clearly give the impression noone has even read your ticket yet. Just my two cents.
In this interview published three days ago, Colin Johanson mentions expansion after expansion after expansion, content, content and more content, like modern day Sisyphuses, Sisyphi, they will be forever churning out stuff for us to do: http://gamingbolt.com/guild-wars-2-interview-we-talk-to-areanet-about-how-the-mmorpg-has-been-doing-post-launch
I like new content as much as the next man (hi feller), but it’s my opinion that the rate of content release really isn’t necessary to keep people interested. I believe they could slow it down and still keep players happy – unless of course, they are intent on keeping a full staff roster and have to find things for them to do, like some utopian cooperative, and if they aren’t all adept at bug fixing, then the only real option is to have them work on what they are good at – content.
So after typing that paragraph I’ve talked myself into understanding why slowing down the release of content doesn’t necessarily speed up the fixing of bugs. Unless, of course, they are mercenary objectivists, heartless capitalists in the mold of Randian “heroes”, with no concern for the wellbeing of others and with a hire-em-fire-em approach where they replace some of the content people with bug-fixters, and thus balance the books.
It’s late and I’m tired, and I’ve thought about this too much.

Why not both?
I like new content, it makes the game really fresh and exciting.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

I, for one, want new content. This same complaint has been made since the 90s regarding MMO development. People will always insist that halting development to fix bugs is what is ultimately best, but the fact of the matter is that content is the lifeblood of MMOs, a decision to stop growing is a decision to kill off the game. Everyone wants bugs fixed, but the prioritization of new content is important.
Why not both?
I like new content, it makes the game really fresh and exciting.
Because we can’t get both at once.
I would like new content but I would like the existing content fixed first even more. The way I see it is:
Adding new content = Buggy Old Content + Buggy New Content
or
Fixing existing content = Working Content
We’ve had patch after patch that seem to fix very few progress impeding dungeon bugs yet somehow always manage to add new bugs.
I would agree that content bugged and/or poor since day 1 should have a higher priority than new content that is also bugged (the whole of Lost Shores is/was bugged to some degree).
While the actual encounters of the Fractals are mostly nice (and much more interesting than the limited experience I have with the launch dungeons), the surrounding systems around them (and Ascended gear) seems totally unfinished – even with today’s patch 2 weeks after their release.
The AMA even stated that they (I’m putting the Fractals and Ascended gear together here) were, basically, released before they were done (no way to get rings other than RNG luck – forcing anyone not doing dungeons to grind these fractals for the best gear that DOES have an impact everywhere else in the game – bar sPvP).
I don’t know why these Fractals are substantially different than the other dungeons, but something must be pretty different if there’s no fix for not re-entering after a DC after 2 weeks.
Not to mention the complete fracturing of the /LFG spam crowd in Lion’s Arch (without even mentioning that Lion’s Arch is now pretty useless for anything other than spamming /LFG – and that if you /LFG more than once like every 3 or 4 minutes you suppressed for kittens only know how long).
RNG gating and not seeming to have any idea what this would do to the players (other than knowing that there would be backlash) smells of either not really understanding how MMOs work, or releasing content knowing it’s not finished.
For example – why was the current /LFG tool even implemented into the game? What possible function can it serve? You are unable to state what group content you are looking to do. You are unable to see people LFG outside of the zone they (or you) are in. And most people don’t even know it exists. And yet the biggest new content is all about needing a group, and a very specific group (fractal levels), and that specificity is so tight that people are finding ways to hop overflows and using 3rd party sites just to be able to find other people to do the content.
Meanwhile the first patch to this new content tries to remove all possible benefit the players can derive from playing something “not as intended”, but does nothing (that I can tell) of removing any negative affecting the players that is “not as intended”. And adds a couple more negatives as a bonus.
Why not both?
I like new content, it makes the game really fresh and exciting.
Because we can’t get both at once.
I’m not sure the people working on fixing bugs/balance and the ones working on designing and coding new content are the same you know.

I think you are right as I have seen Anet say as much on these forums. However that doesn’t change the fact that right now we can’t seem to get both. The old content is still buggy, the new content is buggy, and the new fixes for the old content are buggy.
I still want to add that I love guild wars 2, just constructively wanted to see if I was the only one that didn’t need massive monthly content updates, if there was an option of concentrating on fixing and possibly redesigning certain aspects of the game. I’m certain the player base is diligent in reporting bugs, so anet know what is in new of fixes. And is there anyone that can explain why patches designed to fix certain things end up bugging something else like an event or dungeon? But all in all gw2 is a million times smoother than say diablo 3 when blizzard released a beta product to us. An ill never forget the 2 weeks of backwards flying dragons on sky rim after their patching.
To be honest it makes sense they have different people dedicated to different areas of focus. Coding a new area is quite different than debugging it.
However, I definitely feel like there should be a bigger team on general content polish be it balancing combat, balancing rewards (looking at you fractals versus older dungeons), debugging classes, or debugging dungeons.
While it’s an MMO which is much harder to program and de-bug, it’s a given that fewer bugs and interruptions contribute more to a solid feeling game than any ammount of content. A great example of a single player game that comes to mind is deus ex: human revolution. Though a lot of the content in the game is kinda lob-sided to favoring one style of play (brute force hacking) and many of the shop keepers have little to sell (the limb clinic has all of 2 praxis kits) the rest of the game is excellent because I have yet to run into any bugs or issues with the game doing exactly what I want it to do. It makes a game feel so good when it plays like butter.

Here’s a fast way to fix all the dungeon bugs, remove all dungeons. That then leaves us with 20% less bugs if all things equal Open World, WvWvW, Story and sPvP. Then we can spread out any new dungeon content resources to those three area’s as well. Tell those working on dungeons, it’s no fault of their own but the dungeon experience doesn’t fit GW2’s vision moving forward and you will be reassigned to one of the three other areas. (Wake’s up)
I do agree with one who mentioned above, all MMO’s have their share of bugs that seemingly never get fixed. Consider that par, get at some as you go along, but keep pumping the content. Because this is what you could have in a bug fix mentality mode….“Bugs still fixed at a snails pace and no new content”, that is very common for most MMO’s. As if most of the bugs are all special cases that are outside the general code model.
I love the fact that they are adding new content... keep it coming anet! As for the bugs they are being fixed also so this is a bonus
Tis only what you can do for all
Please no bug fixing, focus on new content

I for one have already completed the fractals and the other dungeons. Some are just horribly not fun. And now we have these bug fixes, what a mess when you lose hours of hard gaming only to run into a bug. and then you decide to make a bugged dungeon part of the monthly?
(Yea, that second one doesn’t make much sense, but neither did the OP)

Bringing new buggy content will overload the already big list of the bug team. It keeps piling and piling and piling…and the only thing we hear is “We are working on it”
Something that i always wondered, why do we not have PTR’s tests? Fetching a whole map of people to properly test things will be infinitely better than we have now. Since very obvious things like the fractals dc/cliffside boss and the transformation debuff goes through unnoticed. And the people that play the game figure it out in 5 min of playing it.

But aren’t we betatesting the fractals?? It’s the only answer… it is impossibile to think the actual release of this content is next to an official release… and the way the fixing goes up and down let me feel is more like an alpha test..
see that’s the thing. i do apprecaite the fact that ANet is trying to do something different, and release new content every month, for a f2p game? that’s pretty darn awesome. problem arises though, ebcause there are bugs that don’t get fixed in a timely or are seemingly ignored – some constant communication would be nice, just to reassure your users that they’re being looked at. and with every new content patch, new bugs are introduced. all the while hot fixes are being made for exploits and what not, things that allow players to make more with less. i appreciate that as well and i commend your efforts in keeping the game as “clean” as possible. but to the extent or maybe allowing other just as pressing matters to collect dust? this is purely my own speculation. the game hasn’t been out for TOO long yet either at all.. but seeing the trends with the last few patches, i hope this manner in how the company approaches these problems, releases, etc won’t be set in stone.
i think it’s great that you have great visions and mean to stick by your original plans. at the same time, if things aren’t going the way you had envisioned it, or there are some more fundamental problems that need looking at, one needs to learn to be flexible in terms of their planning. let the new contant chill out a bit. perhaps after Wintersday as i know it’s big gw tradition. but after that.. ensure to fix existing problems. boon up what you’ve got going already. REALLY solidify the existing content. and then you can turn your focus on cranking our awesome new content.. also, solidifying those new content as well, ensureing they have as little bugs or problems as possible.
i love this game to death. and the bugs, to be honest, don’t bug me AS much. but if you’ve noticed, people are talking, people are leaving, and that’ll affect potential new-comers way more than any content you can keep bringing out.
hoping for the best, ANet! looking forward to Wintersday so so so so much! and i don’t want to have bugs be naturaly expected of each update from this point going forward.

I hope you’re joking. Have you played other F2Ps before? The whole business of F2P is constant events to peddle new shines in the store. I’m not saying it’s wrong, they have to run a business, but you seem to think Anet is doing charity work or something.
I have no problem with new free content (of course!) but I do hope as they get more familiar with GW2s workings they get better at ensuring the new content releases without major bugs.
