Twice today we had Cliffside (at lvl 28/29) as the third fractal, and twice something broke and prevented us from progressing.

The first time we were at the arms. Broke one seal, other down to 5%. No more chanters spawning anywhere. Wiping didn’t work (we tried twice).

Second time (very short while later) we make it to the last boss, who proceeds to throw 4 of us friendly cages (cannot attack/exit) while our thief is lying defeated on the floor (killed because 2-3 were already bugged). There’s no waypoint, no leaving/rejoining, and no self-suicide.

There are some bugs that are acceptable and some that are not. We could have dealt with wiping to reset arms and have two large mobs on either side. As difficult as that would have been, at least it still would have been possible. Neither of these scenarios allowed for progress to be made, and resulted in a combined two hours wasted.

I’m not going to ask for progress to be added, or anything like that. I’m just going to ask that something be done so nobody else has to go through what we went through anymore.

Content in this game will always seem
to be faceroll at the high levels, because it
needs to be accessible to the casuals and bads.

while it is a little long, i personally enjoy cliffside, its one of the easier fractals. I have also never once encountered a bug in this fractal. I do know some have existed, and some still happen “now and then” and need to be fixed.

but please do not remove a fractal just because it has some issues, better option is an option to checkpoint without all dieing (or restart from last completed checkpoint, ie here the 2 seals would need to be done from start with new mobs on his first “bug” and in the second case start boss over)

I just hear a collective moan whenever cliffside pops up on 30+. Its not that its so hard but simply obnoxious long. Buggy where people just fall trough the floor and your group has to suicide. Or even more buggy and you can’t progress because of it.

good to know its a 30+ issue. as there is no reason to go that far i’ll likely not encounter it for a while as I’d rather redo lower levels to help guildies anyways

I’ve slunk away defeatedly from Cliffside to the forums to complain about another bug: When attempting to break the arm seals, instead of there being three to four chanters at each seal, there were seven to eight. We had a decent party build: two warriors, an elementalist, a mesmer, and a hunter; still, we could not deal with this.
We first tried staying together as a group, but the chanters at the previous seal were repairing it too quickly due to their numbers. Wiped. Tried again. Wiped.
We then tried, perhaps foolishly, to have two stay at each seal with a couple of hammer carriers in rotation. This of course also did not work, and we wiped.
To be frank, I’m all for having this Fractal removed from rotation simply because ArenaNet can’t seem to get it right and keep it that way.

I did this fractal three times last night and got the “cage bug” twice. There is no way to damage or get out of the cages when it happens. Portals, portal guns, and any kind of movement action (jump back, knockback, etc) dont work.

This was extremely frustrating because I got it as my second fractal the first time and third the next two (thank goodness it worked the last time) so it took me eight fractals to complete a level.

That is totally unacceptable so I agree that it should be removed from the rotation until it is fixed.

I was able to hold one side on my Warrior quite well on F30 (one guy jumped down and rest of team baby-sitted hammer-guy). Pull them back to corridor and AoE down.

I think part of the reason we got these bugs was because we did not go back to Lion’s Arch to completely reset the dungeon. This was done because we were playing at such a time that made overflows very rare to find (it was brought up during the fractals run that this issue did not seem to be addressed in the upcoming fractals fixes). After the first cliffside bug, we went to LA to reset the dungeon and took about 30 minutes to find an overflow.

Looking at it from that angle, I’m not sure auto-suicide would have helped there even. Wiping did not help us with the first issue, and the cages would have remained friendly on the second one.

New change in recent patch? Well, I guess you can still pull them to corridor for better control.

I’d also like to know how this is done on scale 20+.

Obviously, it’s way easier on the first attempt, but what about if your party wiped the first time.

What are your guys tactics on the first attempt and the subsequent attempts in case you fail the first time?

let 1 mob alive and tank it – almost every class can do this without probs – and charge only at the other side. Doesnt matter if 2nd seal will be healed or not, its all safe if one seal is broken (the one where 1 mob was still alive).

with fail
run as group and pull them rather far into the hall so they start healing later. Depending on classes/skill of players there might be 1 or 2 persons able to just tank 1 side. As thief I can hold them quite long without them healing the seal to much. Pull some with cluster bombs (5-8 or so), group them at a corner and kill them via s/p combi – blind makes it easy even as a class cannon what i am. Worked a few weeks ago when doing lv38 and probably still works.

This is nice, but on higher levels you won’t be able to spare a person for tanking that mob. And it’s extremely annoying that if someone in my pug screws this up it’s gg let’s try lvl38 again, np that we wasted an hour+ on other 2 fractals before cliffside :-) The mobs SHOULD despawn after an unsuccessful attempt, but they don’t. And someone almost always kills the chanter that shall not be killed, either accidentally in the tunnel, or a stray pet not in passive mode, or what’s not funny there are ppl at lvl38 that still think zerging as a team back to back works and usually these ppl cannot speak or understand English at all… A few days ago I had 4 fracal runs in a row ruined by this stupid infinite waves and healing mechanic, with the first try kittened up by us ofc.

+1 to remove Cliffside from the rotation, I think a few more weeks of testing and bugfixing would solve most of our problems. These days I’m happy if the last fractal is the Grawl shaman and not cliffside :-)

“Keeping them in combat” and standing there getting facecaved are two different things… Reading, hard, i know.

The mobs SHOULD despawn after an unsuccessful attempt, but they don’t.

So much this. You only have one chance at 20+, and if you mess up something your entire run is ruined.

We got the cage bug last night where you can’t damage the cages to free yourself. After trying a few things we found a solution. If you use the /stuck command and sit still for 30 seconds you will get ported to the bottom of the fractal and have to run back up. We had the boss in his final phase and left one person in the cage to not reset him. After finishing the fractal the final cage opened.

Sorry if this is common knowledge, I didn’t see it anywhere.

My personal issue with this fractal, during the last stage before the boss with the two sides, when the mobs don’t reset after a wipe, every so often on high level runs we wipe on this part, and as most people know when you got full mobs on both sides, this part becomes very difficult if not impossible for some pug groups. After a wipe why don’t they reset to 2 each side.

On the subject of being stuck in the cage, this has happened to me once, but I’ve also seen the other side of the bug where the boss locks himself in the cage, easy kill :P

What I hate with this fractal is the bug at arms seals : when the group wipes, the adds don’t reset. Even if you abandon the fractal and start a new one, if you get colossus again in the rotation, there are still many many adds (if you killed the 2).
Given that most pugs aren’t clever enough to understand you must keep 1 alive at one side (at 20+), this bug causes a pug to fall apart if colossus is selected.
