Lorella Windrunner – 80 Thief
Shayera Nightfall – 80 Mesmer
A lot of things done differently in this game is to remove elitistism and this is one of those things that they won’t do.
I’ve read this thread twice now.
The first time I rolled my eyes and wondered why you would think it would be a good idea to give people an in-game exact measured way of measuring damage output in order to further their “berserker warrior only” mindsets. Also, how would you even quantify damage avoided if instead of dodging, they just never got close enough to hit you?
How do you quantify projectile negation fields saving the party from grisly arrow demise? Conditions would be icky, because the cap would skew who was dealing what based on who gets the most stacks in before a cap is up – or who can burn/chill the most.
There’s a lot of gray areas that I have no idea how you would even begin addressing.
The second time I read this thread, however…
I like the idea. seeing heals, resurrects, dodges, etc. Disregarding the inevitable misuse for the silly max dps speed runners, I can see this being a really cool feature. I’d love to see how many resurrects I got, or if I was doing poorly/well on my dodges.
To go even further, I think it’d be cool if the scoreboard actually gave us a rank, and the reward for the dungeon was based on that rank. Did amazingly well? aced the dodges? resurrected the team? Hell yeah, you get an S-rank, have the biggest reward possible.
What’s that? you did terrible and barely dragged your kitten across the finish line? Here, have a D-rank. you get a reward, but it’s not as awesome as it could be.
But even without that kind of rank/reward system, a scoreboard would be pretty neat.
I would love to see my personal score.
I would love to see my personal score.
You’d always have top score in everything for sure, since there aren’t many people left to catch those when you solo a dungeon
I would love to see my personal score, too. That would save lots of testing time when it comes to the question what professions we should use in speedruns to get the optimal time. Mostly its all about 4-5 Warriors, but sometimes 3 Eles + 2 Warriors/Thieves (always been asking me – if a warrior and a thief would have the same skills, who would deal more damage?) will be adding a good amount of damage and mobility.

It’s a team effort, and what matters is your success or failure. It’s exactly why in PvP they do not have such statistics as a KD ratio, they do not have visible statistics telling players who was good and who they should flame for being less-than-exceptional. Regardless, in general it’s pretty easy to tell who is pulling their weight and who isn’t, and that’s ultimately all the info this would give.
What I wouldn’t mind, however, is having a scoreboard that notes only positive things achieved. This means it wouldn’t track how many times you died in a dungeon, or how many times you were downed, but maybe instead how many revives you contributed to, how much life you healed, how much damage you dealt, and how much damage you mitigated (blocks, evades, etc). I imagine the game doesn’t track all of this information right now, however, and since it’s a purely informative pursuit and has no bearing on your gameplay, I wouldn’t want ANet prioritizing this at all. Maybe we’ll see something like this in several years.
Years back (lots of them) when I played World of Warcraft, I remember some dungeon groups had third-party DPS and Healing logs for the group which they could trigger in chat. As those were early dungeons, far below the level cap, it was a fun feature.
That said, unless it was a personal statistic where the individual saw only their own damage log, I could see this causing serious drama in groups.
But still… it would be pretty interesting to see what DPS you actually dished out during the run, and could help to fine-tune builds.
The only way I would support this is if it only gave you your score, and the other four were anonymous.
Actually, I still probably wouldn’t support it. Just too much elitism. “Yeah mean, I totally came in 1st for kills, this party is a bunch of nubs”
