Colin Johanson on how arenanet measures success.

Edit: More questions further down the thread!!
I currently have two of my characters ready to go on to FotM lvl 20. I have no AR on them, because I haven’t been able to make the choices I need to make to go on. (Not a complaint, just a fact though I do wish I could share my AR gear between the two characters.) So I need help deciding what will be best for going on to higher level fractals.
1st choice is Warrior or Guardian. Both are at FotM 20, so I just have to choose which one gets the gear. I have 2484 Relics (so I can only afford 1 back), 19 Pristine Relics (so only one ring, though second will be purchasable tomorrow), and 49 Laurels (so only one amulet.) Main question: Which is better at high level fractals? I do play the warrior a bit more outside FotM but I know fractals is about to get much harder than it is now (so I’d like to go with gear on whoever will be better for FotM.)
Then the next choice is which items to get. I know not to get two of the same ring (because I’ve been told I can’t wear both.) If I go Warrior I was thinking all zerker stat accessories. If I go Guardian then all stat gear or Soldier’s. I’m thinking utility slot for the amulet. How does this sound? I’m about to blow the fortune I’ve been saving up so I can progress and I want to get it right! (I know this is not considered a fortune to many in the game, but to me that’s a lot of tokens.) Suggestions?

Guardiannnn. I’ve noticed fractals are sooo much easier if you have 1 or 2 guardians in your group. They aren’t needed, but help a lot. That being said I think Knight’s armor/jewel choice for Guardian, but Guardian isn’t my main so maybe someone else can give some more pointers before you blow your load (no pun intended).
For the record, every ring/accessory has 2 of the same kind of stats, but with a different name so you can equip both equivalent stats. But one has an offensive upgrade slot, and one a defensive. (Not really that relevant, because you can both upgrade them with +5 agony with the versatile infusion for 75 fractal tokens).
Also: Kudos for making it to level 20 without Agony Resist
Look, I can tell you for sure that both professions are welcome in fractals and in any part of the game. I can also tell you that (biased opinion) guardians are probably your best bet if you want to feel the immense weight a class like that can pull off (if played properly). You’re just immensely useful, unless you’re a braindead idiot like me.
I strongly discourage you from going with some full-tank/healer builds (see: cleric, full soldier); health in fractals does more harm than good, and overall you can allow yourself to be offensive (not full-dps, not glass cannon) as a guardian. Defense comes through blocks/blinds/boons and other types of damage mitigation.
Some combos you might want to consider:
- knight armor and berserker accessories;
- soldier armor with ruby orbs, berserker weapon and a mix of knight/berserker accessories;
- knight armor, berserker weapon and cavalier accessories because why not. More defensive?
So in short knight, berserker, (cavalier maybe).
Cleric is pretty, I know, but I saw for myself after playing as a cleric guardian.. it doesn’t work so well. Healing scales terribly.
Rampager, shaman, magi, rabid… the other stats combo are blergh.
Oh, you might want to check your traits. Empowering might and altruistic healing… yeah. Also 15 points in radiance… could be interesting.
And don’t forget 5 points in Virtues, hm.
P.S. Ask for other advice to confront the informations. I have a warrior but I play an unoriginal glass cannon build and I have no idea if it works in fractals. I think so, IF you’re supported by the team.
as someone who regularly does 26/30 with a group of friends, but pugged my way up into the 20s…
a warrior is nice to have in the party.
a guardian is needed.
there are just too many places where projectile reflection/absorption is too useful. the full heal is too good in certain situations (mainly grawl boss, or undergeared party members at maw). the only fractal that is made a kittenton easier by a warrior is urban/charr, by using a warbanner on your vets when the captain kills them with agony.

Yay I’m Rikkity’s Friend!! Pug Lyfe!!!!!!
You don’t really have to buy the rings. I got 2 uninfused and 1 infused ones from daily chests and I’m only at FotM personal level 22. But there’s nothing else to use the pristine relics on so it’s up to you.
Between Warrior and Guardian it really depends on what you enjoy. The above posts have said Guardian and I also use my Guardian for Fractals. The consecrations and shouts in particular are incredibly useful, and of course situational protective bubbles like shield of the avenger and sanctuary.
However having a Warrior in the party just makes boss battles so much faster. The scepter is ridiculously underwhelming compared to the Warrior’s longbow/rifle. They can also give party members might and be equally effective at DPS, whereas a Guardian has to stack might using a staff, and the staff isn’t exactly your highest DPS output weapon. And DPS isn’t everything but a boss that dies faster is a party less likely to wipe.
In the end it’s up to you, but I’ve been in a party with 4 Warriors and myself the lone Guardian. My mate’s been in a five Warrior party. But I’ve never been in a party with 4 Guardians and 1 Warrior, so. While I’d recommend Guardian, at the end of the day both have their benefits and it’s up to you.
@lcp I have found two rings (not much for all I’ve done) but they are things like condition damage. Not really what I want to focus on with either of those two classes.
I’m thinking right now I might go put my stuff on Guardian and use my Guardian to gear up my warrior (though I might change my mind still.) I like the sound of the all stat items (Solaria, Lunaria) especially since they got a boost in the last patch. The only stats I don’t need are CD and MF so the numbers seem to add up well. Right now my Guadian is in Soldiers with ruby orbs and that’s been working till I save up for divinity. With all stat trinkets, I think it would make for a good build.
For my warrior, I think I’d continue to build pure DPS trinkets. Then I could switch between Soldier w ruby orb and full DPS Zerker gear depending on the situation. This sound good?
Also lemme make sure I understand. When I get my ring, I can put the basic AR infusion in, or I can infuse the ring first and then put an AR infusion in for +10 instead? So if I plan to infuse the ring, I should not put the infusion in it first or I will lose that infusion?
