PuG Quality Degradation: Wintersday Edition
Omg yes so true. Wintersday event has seen a huge influx of poor players in play how you want gearsets and builds. Every time an AH guard/bearbow/venomshare/condimes I immediately throw up a little in my mouth and then kick faster than the speed of light. They always try to join when I’m selling people dungeon master titles and have no idea what is going on and leave without paying.
We must unite in solidarity.

Well from what i seen since the game went on sale was a mass influx of new players. I also notice that it is probable with all the students doing dungeons during school winter break. There is hope my friend…
School starts next week so restart PUGing then. I personally dont have issues with any runs but then again i join listings that say 80/speed.

I am just playing regular with my alts trying to level, not like I dont have 4 max level characters. People see a non-80 and flip out, not like I dont have my characters looking good. I just wanted to see how many others were seeing this side of PuGing
This has been said ad nauseum, but people just don’t seem to get it:
If you wish to run low-level characters and/or non-meta builds, no one is forcing you to join zerker-only speed run groups or path selling groups. Make your own group detailing that all levels/classes/builds are welcome. The end.

I levelled my warrior from 30 until 80 exclusively by dungeons. The most I ever waited to get a full group was 5 minutes.
If you wanna run with a lowbie post that in the LFG. Don’t expect people you don’t know and aren’t your friends/guildies to carry you.
Something like “Lowbies run, 80’s help appreciated”. That way you don’t have to deal with the “Speedrun 80s only” and they don’t have to deal with you.

And that right there should tell you something if you believe that to be true.
No one wants to run in those groups, but no one wants to run the proper builds either. People know those runs will more than likely end in many wipes and hours spent in a dungeon because of poor play or poor builds. Yet, at the same time, those people want to join zerk “elitist” groups and get carried the entire way. THEN act as if they helped along the way and there is no problem with their build, because “Hey, we finished the dungeon, right?”
The real problem with this game is not people “elitist” or whatever you want to call them. The problem is lack of more viable builds for dungeons. It’s either full dps or you will do more damage to your team than mobs. Plus, people, by now, run dungeons only to grind cash and tokens, no one is there for the “spirit of an adventure” or for a challenge. Few people on lvl 80s will run AC without stacking everywhere, the reason why lowbies are unwanted for this kind of things, is that they can’t, as effectively, play in such condition.
The only thing I blame to community is to be blind. Like those who hate rangers just because they are rangers, not realizing that NOT EVERY ranger out there is a bearbow dude spamming autoattack of longbow from Lion’s Arch to hit a boss in a dungeon.

True, but when it’s a 1 in 200 chance that you actually get a useful ranger in your party, they will be stereotyped and pigeonholed. Everyone knows not all rangers are terrible bearbow’s.
Also, I agree with your overall sentiment. Dungeons are designed to be ran with DPS heavy builds. The only way to change that is to change dungeon design and boss mechanics, but that isn’t happening anytime soon. It’s a shame that there are like 20 different stat combos and only one is really viable in dungeons/PVE.
Shame? I say it’s quite cheap and good for my inventory space, thank you very much.

Shame in the sense that there is no real build variety.
We all know most people who run garbage builds will never change their ways. They will only join speed groups and slow everyone down. Wouldn’t it be better if some of those builds were actually useful instead of dead weight?
I realize changing the game to accommodate bads who refuse to change their builds isn’t a good idea, but it would at least make some of those other builds more viable.
What I am aiming at is not really the build or characters, (im running dungeons my characters are qualified for) but just the nasty behavior. I have run dungeons consistently for months and played since the beta (brief 4 month break around this time). I had been kicked from a PuG once the entire time. The last two weeks its happened far too frequently. I am not saying this has happened even inside the dungeon but before getting started or even saying a word. What kind of community is this? I have been rushing my ele to 80 just so I can actually play the dungeons regularly.
Prime Example: While writing this post I tabbed in-game to do SE1 in the LFG and found a group, and by the time I wrote it and came back from the loading screen I had been kicked when warping to instance. My lv 74 ele is sad

There will always be the “best” and the “worst” build, or maybe better worded: most fitting/least fitting build in terms of what you want to achieve. This is just how things work and no matter what you do, you can not change that fact.
You do not have to run with anyone that demands you to play these kinds of builds, however you can not force anyone to do that either, just because you think it’s “morefun”.
The qualitly of PUGs in gw2 is pretty much the same as in every other game, that is really low.
Some people are fed up with maxrange camping bearbows/shoutheals/cleric guards wasting their time, so they just start to kick everyone who does not run the most fitting build for their exspcatations.
That of course does not mean all these players are really good, a lot of these groups still are quite bad, but if you compare their average time/wipes/etc to the "everyone welcome group they will still come out ahead, which is what they were aiming for in the first place.
Yes a lot of groups may be a lot more unfriendly, but as I’ve said, the reason for that is because the players running those groups don’t like their time wasted. Some people find it “fun” to run dungeons fast, deal with it.
